Played an early round this am and finished in 3 1/2 hrs. Been a while since I've played here and the greens were in really nice shape. Pretty straight forward course. If you can hit it straight you should be able to score ok. Only a few dogleg holes and some long par 4's but the par 5's have wide fairways with not much trouble. A few hundred yards longer than the Balboa course. Not sure which one I prefer more but I think the Balboa, although shorter has a little more character. Not very crowded, it seems more folks are playing less since they increased the greens fees. Also noticed that there seem to be a lot of showbiz types that play here and Rancho Park. Check it out!

pretty good shape. The greens in great shape at an average speed. I'm still not crazy about
paying extra because I'm slightly out of the area when all my friends who are nearby residents pay less. Now, playing some munis is almost as expensive as playing some much
more nicer and groomed courses. Anyway, enough of my b$tch ing, a day of golf is always
good.

Greens seemed to be fully recovered from the aeration. You can see the pattern, but they are lush and thick. They are in great shape although quite slow and often bumpy. Fairways, tee boxes and rough are spotty (but not as evil as the squirrel who chewed through my golf bag looking for a Nature Valley Granola Bar while we were waiting to tee off on 15). The golf carts are embarrassingly old and mine barely made it around. I should have walked. All in all Fun course. About what you'd expect from a city facility. How often do you really get to see guys playing in flip flops with no shirt?

Greens haven't fully recovered, and some have been re-sanded, almost all they've let grow a bit and are quite slow. Good news is that everyone wanted to play Balboa so there is minimal wait list, and finished in good time (for LA City course) of about 4 3/4 hours.

Good City Course. Conditions were decent to good. Greens were slow, but in good shape. Tee boxes were lush, but slightly unlevel at times. Fairways were lush. Rough was consistant. Sand was good... Continue »

Good City Course. Conditions were decent to good. Greens were slow, but in good shape. Tee boxes were lush, but slightly unlevel at times. Fairways were lush. Rough was consistant. Sand was good on green side bunkers, harder on fairway bunkers. Driving range could use newer balls. Customer service from all employees was excellent. Marshalls did a great job. Enjoyed the course.

Played Sat. 10/25...off at 1:00 pm. Finished at 6:30 pm. Slooooow. There was some skins tourney going on so players were taking their time. Some of us were just there to play. The plus side was the course was in great shape. The greens are almost back in shape after punching in Sept. Very soft, very slow. We actually saw a ball get half buried in the green on a high wedge shot. The pins were tucked in places I've never seen for this course which made it more challenging than usual. The snack shop was closed when we went by at 4:30 pm. Couldn't believe it. The course was packed and you couldn't get a drink. Anyway, get out and enjoy this muni while it looks so nice.

Played today with a business friend and went off as a two-some at 1:00. He rode, I walked/carried. I knew it would be warm, but didn't realize until I got home and checked that it was around 100º at tee-off, with a slightly higher Real Feel. Now I know why I felt like I'd been beaten with a cricket bat by the 18th. All that aside, the good part was no one in sight in front or behind until the 10th, where a two-some caught up with us and we let them play through. After that, no one else within three holes of us. The fairways were in good shape and, as mentioned in previous reports, the greens are soft and run a little on the slow side but not bad. The rolls were true and generally not too many pitch marks. I was in one bunker and the sand was firm, but not hard -- not bad at all. No real complaints except that if you tack on a cart fee to the non-resident rate, you can play a much nicer course than a basic muni -- even one in good shape -- for tha money. I'm beat, but had a good time.

Played today 7/19/08 tee'd off at 5:45am, one of the quickest rounds I have ever played at this course finished in 3hrs and 40 mins.. Never waited, just kept going.. I haven't played Encino in almost 9 months, and the course is in good shape.. they must have manicured the course lately; the fairways were freshly cut, as well as the tee boxes. Greens soft and on the slow side, bunkers hard sand but in good shape.. The greens have way to many ball marks, I think that is a real characteristic of the city courses cause no one fixes there ball marks!!

Played Encino Golf Course on Monday 7/7/08. Called and asked for a 10:30 tee time and it was available. Played round in 4 hours. I had not played Encino in over 15 years and remembered it as being in fair condition. I was pleasantly surprised. The course was in terrific shape - tees to greens. I look forward to returning.
