North course was ranked higher in golf digest, but pro shop stated that south course had more views. In my opinion, I feel this course is overpriced about 100 dollars on the weekends.

Just to correct previous post about discount card at pelican...the $60 is the supertwilight rate that you get at twilight. normal discount is $95, instead of $135.

I hit the Lotto and decided to spend most of it at Pelican. Great lay-out, great staff, greens were excellent. Pretty golf course. Finished in 3.5 hours. IMHO, this is the nicest public course in So. Cal. With respect to the green fees, they have an annual card for $500 that allows 4 to play at twilight rates of $60/week and $70/weekend. Get 3 of your buddies to go in $125 each and get a card for the group. It may be the only way to play the course at a reasonable $$.

This course is perfect! What a day! Crisp and clear. Amazing views of Catalina. Almost as if you could reach out and touch it. Greens were like formica, but held shots well. Pin placements really make the difference on this course. Some front pins the shot will roll right back off the green. Traps were great (I was in a lot of them). Funny, while raking one, I unearthed a burlap sand sack! Fairways like carpet. Awesome place. Find a friend in their player's club and get out with them for the $40 discount.

I too was lucky enough to have Subaru pick up the tab for the outing on 11-18. WOW! I know $$$$ is a lot for a round of golf, but you actually can see how course design is an art. The par 3's had some of the most beautiful ocean backdrops into the setting sun.. The course was slightly overwatered in areas but the greens smooooth. Had a great time and will go back again. I played this course for the first time at a free tournament on 11-18. The club did an excellent job of running the event, and my hat's off to Subaru for a great experience. The fees are high, and I would never have thought to play the course at the rack rate. But after playing it, I would consider springing for the twilight rate on a special occassion. The conditions were superb, the views by the ocean just incredible, and the layout, although short, is interesting. I'd say it's the nicest course I've played in So. California. Take a few of the best holes from Strawberry Farms, a few from the back nine of Tijeras Creek, add in the views of Monarch Beach and Torrey Pines, add great conditioning, and you get the idea of what this course has to offer. The only drawback that I can think of, besides $$$$, is that there's traffic noise on a few of the holes, although you don't see the traffic.
