I use the range here quite a bit, but played the course for the first time last weekend. Teed off at around 7:15, finished around 11:30. We could have played faster but we decided to relax and take our time since it wasn't really that crowded. A lot of the reviews on here are overly critical of this place. It's not Monarch Beach, and it's not supposed to be. For a reasonably priced public course, it was in fair condition. They also just upgraded their entire fleet of carts to brand new Yamahas, very nice. Fairways were in decent condition, with a few dead spots that did stand out as particularly bad, I had to hit off dirt once. It seems like a little bit of work could make the fairways really nice. Greens in excellent condition all around, very fast, very tricky to read on some holes. Bunkers were inconsistent, I only had to play out of three on Saturday, two of which were nice and soft with plenty of sand, the other seemed like the sand was packed down, so i just treated it like chipping off a mat. Tee boxes do need quite a bit of work, very uneven on some holes, this is my only MAJOR complaint about my round. The course layout is pretty unusual, you have to drive through a bunch of tunnels, alleys, and across a couple of streets to get to the tees. Fairways are generally pretty tight, and there are a couple of elevated tee shots which are a lot of fun, but tend to eat a lot of balls, so come prepared if you tend to spray the ball off the tee. Staff is friendly, snack-bar food is really good. Don't come here expecting a spectacular championship course, just come to have some fun and relax and you will enjoy your round at Shorecliffs.

Played on 09/08/09 at 9am.First time playing this course.I had read some rough reviews on this course but since I live in the valley,I thought I would try for some cool breezes.The course was what I expected from prior reviewers,but I must say the greens were in very good shape.They rolled true and the speed was med to fast at times.The fairways and bunkers were a totally different story.They were in bad shape,but for $26 dollars including cart and very good greens it was well worth it.

Some more positives were the marshall was great.He ask us if this was our first time on the course and when we said yes,had advice for us that was very helpful.He checked on us often during our round.Very nice person.The par 3s from blue tees are very challenging but fair.The course is short but narrow,so it does keep you on your toes.Dont be shy when driving from the 6th green to 7th tee to order a sandwich from the small deli over the fence.Look for the signs before the 7th tee on the drivers side.

Played for the first time in 2 years and arrived expecting the worse. I was kind of surprised first by the staff who were pleasant and helpful. Fairways were firm with some bare spots but overall OK but there was extensive work being done on Hole Number 12 (I think) and we were not told about this. Greens were very good holding well hit shots but were quicker than most I've played in the area. Sand was thin but additional sand was being added while we were playing. Tee boxes in my opinion were poor to good but really need some TLC. Overall worth the 26 bucks which included a cart.

i was there a few months back...and what a mess. the first few holes were great, and then it just got gradually worse all day long. there are a ton of improvements that need to be made, and even simple grounds keeping things. i saw a change of ownership sign in the window indicating it had been sold, so i hope the new ownership is intent of improving the course. i wasn't crazy about some of the holes, but overall it was a nice layout. when the conditions are horrible, it can make for an unpleasant day. the greens were nice, and i wasn't in the sand at all, so i can't comment there.

This was the second time I've played the course in about six months. This time was a better experience then the first. The course does have a few tee boxes that need some work. THey are not all completely level. The greens were in GREAT shape and they putted true for the most part. By the way, the greens are a bit quicker then many of those I've played on in recent past. Overall, the course wasn't in too bad of condition. Yes, there are some bare spots and tight lies on the fairways. (but unless you're playing $100.00+ courses, most of them have some thin spots this time of year around here.) I was pleasantly surprised that the course was in fairly decent condition; all things considered. I played with my normal playing partner and we both agreed that the course was in better shape then the last we had played the course. The marshal was out on the course throughout the day and we didn't see any excessive slow play even though the course was getting pretty good traffic for a Tuesday. For the dollar spent to play, I have to revise my orginal judgement; this isn't that bad a course!!

Played Shorecliffs on Monday 05-11-09. All I can say is “PATHETIC”. $32.00 senior fee with cart and it wasn’t worth it. All tee boxes were uneven and patchy. All greens were bumpy and slow. Fairways looked like a park in South Central L.A. Par- 5 - 16th was made into a par 3 because of city flood control. I played this venue years ago and they had various problems then but not quit as bad as now. It might be the economy or management, who knows, but the folks working there were very nice and accommodating. I won’t be going back until changes are made.
