The Pride of the Pacific, San Clemente Municipal golf course, is in great shape. Fairways are lush and green with the rough challenging and the greens are running about 9. Temp’s were running about 15 degrees cooler than inland today. Pace of play was 4 ½ hours.

Got my first hole-in-one on #13. It took 45 years of playing this game to finely get one. Rancho San Joaquin just completed refurbishing their driving range and training facility and it’s great. They also updated the restaurant and patio area. The course is in good shape, greens are recovering well from aeration a few weeks ago. We play here every Thursday and it’s usually a 4 hour 30 minute game.

Played Mile Square “Classic” today. Great weather, 4 hour & 30 Min round, 10:15 to 2:45. Greens were smooth and running about a 9. Fairways good and the rough was tolerable. Bunkers OK with some being a little too wet. All in all, was a very nice day of golf.

Played Shorecliffs on Monday 05-11-09. All I can say is “PATHETIC”. $32.00 senior fee with cart and it wasn’t worth it. All tee boxes were uneven and patchy. All greens were bumpy and slow. Fairways looked like a park in South Central L.A. Par- 5 - 16th was made into a par 3 because of city flood control. I played this venue years ago and they had various problems then but not quit as bad as now. It might be the economy or management, who knows, but the folks working there were very nice and accommodating. I won’t be going back until changes are made.

Played for the first time on 3-11. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Weather was perfect and the course was in great shape. The majority of fairways were like plush carpet and greens were smooth, true and running about 10. The only drawback was the sand traps. Some were fluffy with deep sand and some were like hardpan. I was assured by the staff they were attending to the matter. Senior rate was $45.00 with cart and advanced GPS. All in all this is a great venue and I will be back to play.

First time at this venue. Course was in pretty good shape. Greens were running about 9 and very smooth and true. Fairways were in good shape and rough was OK. Some sand traps were pretty solid and some were fluffy. Some of the Tee boxes needed a little cleaning up but not too bad. The only problem here was the heat – 97 degrees. The staff was friendly and helpful. Did not see any Marshals, and on a Sunday, that’s unusual. We played 18 in Four hours, ten minutes. Since I’m use to San Clemente weather, where it was 73 degrees, I’ll wait for it to cool off in Escondido before I play here again.

Played San Clemente on Wednesday and Thursday. The course is in great shape tee to green. Fairways are lush and greens are smooth and running about 91/2. Pace of play on both days was good, running about 4:20. Staff was very friendly and helpful. This venue is the best Muni around.

Played on Thursday the 22nd ---- Course is in good shape and the greens are finally softening up a wee bit. If you get to the 7th hole in an hour and a half you’ll get a $5.00 certificate to use at the course --- this is only on Thursday. What they didn’t tell us is there would be no senior discount --- Oh well……. I talked to one of the greens keepers and he said they would be aerating the greens on October the 4th.

Nice day at Rancho --- teed off at 10:00 and finished at 1:30. Although some of the fairways had bare spots or brown spots, they were just fine. The greens were very nice and running about 10. The tee boxes were in very good shape as well as the sand traps. The Marshals were out and doing their job very well. Jim, the starter, was pleasant and very helpful. The practice greens emulated the course greens. With their senior card, the $35.00 green fee was well worth it.

Played here on Wednesday April 20th. Although the course is not very long it presents a very good challenge. Course management and hitting to specific spots will do much better than just seeing how far you can hit the ball. The greens are tricked up and have lots of undulations, however, they run true and there’s just about no air time when you putt. We played the Ridge to Creek in just four hours. Senior rate was $44.00 before 8:30 AM. Course is in great shape.

Play was a little slow, however, course is in great shape. If you post your scores at the computer in the pro shop, it shows a 116 slope and a 67.9 index for the blues. The score card shows 70.1 and 124. When the starter was questioned he said the SCGA required them to show the new index and slope for the new revised course that won’t be finished for another four months. I think GreensKeeper.org should look into this. Also, they send way to many messages to your cart on the GPS. It screws up the info you’re relying on for your next shot and it cancels out the distances of your tee shot. The management might be going through a metamorphous and needs to be addressed on some of these issues ---- What do you think GK.

As a follow up to my previous post I played San Clemente on Jan. 31st and the sand traps were cleaned, sand added and dressed. As I said before --- nice venue.
