Long weekend of independence day,wide open,few people on the course.Strong here are the good greens conditions than fairways,tee boxes. If not their green fee should be at $40.00 weekend.Anyway they are overpriced.

Slow round - but somewhat expected for a Sunday afternoon. Marshall's need to keep pace of play better - one group was causing all the problems and they did nothing about it! Greens were good, fairways were garbage (with the exception of a few spots) Overall - wouldnt pay more than $40 at PEAK times to play this course!

Nice day at Rancho --- teed off at 10:00 and finished at 1:30. Although some of the fairways had bare spots or brown spots, they were just fine. The greens were very nice and running about 10. The tee boxes were in very good shape as well as the sand traps. The Marshals were out and doing their job very well. Jim, the starter, was pleasant and very helpful. The practice greens emulated the course greens. With their senior card, the $35.00 green fee was well worth it.

I have been playing this course off and on for approximately 30 years. It has never been in really good condition but the greens used to be kept in pretty nice shape.
My last round on 4/25 saw everything here in the worst condition I have ever seen it.
The greens were lumpy, bumpy, and a variety of speeds three weeks after aeration. Looks like they punched them and mowed them a couple times to remove the plugs and thats it.
Bunkers were another mixed bag. Some nice, some like concrete.
Fairways which are always fair at best were horrible. A lot of them had clumps of some kind of weed/grass scattered around in sufficient quantity.
With there green fees at the level they are, I would say that Rancho SJ is headed to Condo Land. It's a shame what American golf has done for this course.

The course disappoints. With all the rain you'd expect it to be lush, but there were bare spots everywhere. The fairways appeared to have only slightly fewer weeds than the rough, and both the rough and the fairways were dry. The greens were reasonable, but the layout is dull. I walked at twilight for $16, but my time is worth more than that. I can't imagine being desperate enough to pay the full riding rate of $69 on the weekend.

I wasn't wowed by this course at all. I enjoyed a few holes (5, 10, 12, 16) but I had a hard time finding where the fairway ended and the rough started. For the price, I expected the course to be a little greener, especially with the rains we've had.

Greens were in very good shape and some of the greens really gave you a challenge (10 and 16 come to mind).

I would rate this course higher if the green fees were in the $40 range, but for $60 I expected a little more.

This course has improved greatly over the past couple of years so I now try to play a couple of times a month. Staff could be a little friendlier and we never saw the cart on 1/27 but marshall was friendly & did job of keeping groups moving w/o being nasty about it.
