Lucky enough to get out Friday and Sunday [November 30th]. This is a great course. Certainly the rain last week helped perk things up, and the wind through San Jacinto Pass was down- but man, you think VC has great courses? They pale in comparison to the Dunes. Every aspect of the course was nearly immaculate: fairways [perky everywhere], rough [consistent height, few if any bare spots], greens [grain, undulating, and true], sand [consistent], tee boxes- consistent conditions throughout the course. I do not know how they can do it so well in the desert- but they do. And, the Dunes rates are a fraction of what you’ll pay in PS.
Take home lesson: after the marshal watched me 3-putt the 9th green, he mentioned that all greens break towards Indio. On that particular hole that day [red flag right from above the hole] it meant despite the slope moving right to left, the putt actually broke back up the slope to the right- away from the hole. Remembering that probably saved me 4 strokes on the back side- play the break that way if you get a chance to hit the Dunes.

Played October 20th in the am. Another beautiful day in the Coachella Valley and Desert Dunes is in good shape tee to green.

Played October 20th in the am. Another beautiful day in the Coachella Valley and Desert Dunes is in good shape tee to green.

The layout is one of my favorites in the Palm Springs area and Desert Dunes recently reopened after overseeding with rye grass.

Check the weather report before playing and stay away if wind is in the forecast. If the weather is calm it's a great place to play.

Played 8/11 in the am as a single and pretty much had the course to myself. 10+mph winds gave me some trouble over the front nine but winds calmed down at the turn. For this time of the year, Desert Dunes is in good shape. Greens are medium speed, firm, and roll true with very few divot marks or bare areas. Sand traps in good shape with the exception of a few with water in them. The course layout is outstanding but this is a difficult track in the wind.

A nice Palm Springs course. A good variety of holes. Some open, others narrow, some with water, and a few doglegs. A very creative layout. Course knowledge can be helpful on this track due to blind... Continue »

A nice Palm Springs course. A good variety of holes. Some open, others narrow, some with water, and a few doglegs. A very creative layout. Course knowledge can be helpful on this track due to blind tee shots. Course is recommended. A straight ball is strongly advised on this course if you would like to score. Wind can add difficulty. Tees boxes were level and good condition, fairways were lush, rough was lush, desert was OB, greens were smooth and not too fast, sand was heavy and a bit hard, wild life on course was very nice, driving range was excellent. A great place to play.

not the best condition course in the palm springs area(not to bad though), but in my opinion, has a very good layout. It has is good variety of holes(doglegs, elevation changes, scenic holes, driveable par 4's and etc). Not the hardest course to play, but when the wind picks up (like it usually does here) very challenging. Played today on 4-25(memorial day weekend) and finished 18 holes in 2 and 1/2 hours.

Played May 17th at 6am as a single and was the 1st on the course. No wind at all but temperature started to climb by 830am (triple digits today).

Played May 17th at 6am as a single and was the 1st on the course. No wind at all but temperature started to climb by 830am (triple digits today).

Fairways, tee boxes, and sand traps were in good condition but greens very slow. Even with the slow greens I always enjoy playing this track early in the morning when it isn't windy.

Played this course again this weekend and like always I ask myself why. This place is really not worth it, when the wind blows and I mean really blows like it seems to most of the time, the course is ridiculously difficult, and when the wind actually doesn't blow there is not much to it. I'm not sure I can blame Mr. Jones for the design, he tried to account for the wind with minimal bunkers but the wind is usually so severe that it sends too many shots off into the scrub. Thing is when it's windy like that I'm just not going to play and when it's not windy the design just doesn't offer much challenge. It's just a bad place to build a golf course.

Have played this course many time over the years but played last week (March 7) at 6:30 am and there was no wind and only a twosome ahead of my wife and I. We had a coupon and payed $49 ea including cart. When the wind is down this is one of the best tracks in the desert.

Played on Sunday morning...it was a perfect day in the Desert.
Starter and staff were friendly and got us going 10 minutes early.

Starter and staff were friendly and got us going 10 minutes early.
Course is challenging but fair and in good shape...I always have a good time here unless it is windy. I even had a birdie today on one of the par 3's.
