Played on 6/10. Found the course very entertaining. The links style course allowed for only the BEST shots to have a level lie. Many mounds and bunkers were placed to attrack errant t-shots. The course left little room for errors, as every error seemed to cost you a stroke. Either in the form of a bunker shot or hitting from the desert floor. Overall the course was a fun test of skills, and requires you to play the course, and not just BOMB it out there and play from the next fairway on a bad hit. I will be back.

Played Desert Dunes on 4/23, 7:30 tee time. It had been 8 years since I first played it, it could well be 80 years before I play it again. This course has a great layout, and the course was generally in good shape. However, THE WIND IS UNBEARABLE. It was a bad sign when we pulled into the lot and there were literally only 3 other cars at the course, at least 2 of which had to belong to the employees. My take is, if there is no wind, or even normal wind, this would be a great track. Its a really good layout. I can play in normal 15-20 MPH wind, but this wasnt even remotely close to normal wind.

When we left our place in La Quinta that morning, there was literally no breeze at all, but once you cross over Highway 10, you're in that valley between the mountains where you can see all the wind from the LA Area comes plowing thru. We had prepaid for our tee time via golfnow, so we didnt have a choice but to play. After playing down wind and upwind holes with a literal 4-club wind adjustment, we couldnt take it anymore and left the course at the turn.

On one of the downwind holes, #7, I hit my 4-iron 235, a club that I normally hit about 175-180. Wind was so bad that my towel, which I had wet before we teed off, got blown off the green into the lake behind the green. Making matters worse was the par-5 9th hole when we were directly back into the wind, and it was driver, 3-wood, 3-wood, wedge to reach the par-5 green in 4. My playing partner and I couldnt hear each other from one side of the fairway to another, thats how windy it was. Just utterly ridiculous conditions.

If you ever plan on playing this track, I would recommend you go out there without a tee time and walk on if the conditions are ok, you might wait 30-60 minutes to get out, but its better than being stuck playing if the conditions are horrible. To bad too, because without the wind tunnel, this would be a great layout.

I was recommended by someone to go to this course, but I was very disappointed on the condition of the golf course. I new the second I stepped on the putting green that it was not going to be a good course. The greens were not only slow, but a a result of them recently slitting the greens they were very bumpy. The wind fortunately was bearable, which I have been told is occasionally unbearable. As you look past the greens (which are pohana infested), the rough and fairways are just fair. I can say I have played courses that are worse, but I would opt not to return to this one, unless they find someway to get it into good shape again.

If one reads all the comments re Desert Dunes one would think it a " Private Country Club", and I have to say it is for "EVERYONE". Got lucky today,early tee time, NO WIND,, this is a great test of golf, kinda old fashioned layout mostly straightaway golf. Some dogleg holes, some blind shots, but most of the course is right in front of you and beats you to death if ya dont act wisely. I love this place,dont get here much as I hate wind. Cant say enough re conditions, EVERYTHING is the way its supposed to be. Staff is friendly. I will do all possible to play here more often. Do not pass on Desert Dunes unless the windmills are spinning 100 miles an hour. .

Played 11/12/06. 90 degree rule in effect as course had overseeded about 6 weeks prior. Course was lush; tee-boxes and greens a little shaggy and putts were slow. Greens rolled true though and were immaculate. Fairways and rough thick and ready for mowing as well. Overall, course was beautiful and challenging and we really enjoyed that it was not surrounded by houses like most Valley courses. We played in intermittent winds during a morning round - sometimes hardly any wind, sometimes a brisk breeze, sometimes a 2-club gale. Wind is definately a consideration here and ramps up the degree of difficulty greatly, especially in PM. Not much water on the course and I didn't notice much sand either (lucky me); a few large-treed holes, but mostly links-style with low scrub paralleling fairways. Low prices in pro shop for clothing and caps compared to other Valley courses, friendly staff, but not much of a bar or resturant. Would play here again - good course, fair price, no houses!

played apr 12/13th. if you enjoy desert golf, forget ps courses and head over to the dunes. aside from the enjoyable, nearly immaculate track, it feels as a drive through the desert - no houses, little noise. get there early and it will have a country club feel. the overall conditions are nearly perfect. will play here every chance i get.

If you wear a toupee, don't come here when it's windy. We played on February 15, 2006 and it was the windiest conditions I've ever played in. 50-60 mph gusts, no kidding. Employee told me that wind we endured was a once a month thing. However, the course was in great shape and was a great deal. There was a crusty old b*st%rd working behind the counter, but that didn't bother me. Everybody else there was incredibly friendly. Conditions were very good from tee to green and the course is challenging and very interesting. Great food and great cart service too. If you can get here when the wind's not blowing, by all means play here. It's one of the best deals in the desert. No houses on the course and you feel like you're all alone when you're out there. It is a top-notch facility. My advice is: if you're unloading your clubs and the wind is gusting, put them back in your car and drive away. If not, get ready for a cheap and enjoyable experience.
