Second round of double header today. First being the TPC Stadium. Between the 2, TPC Stadium definitely has an edge in my opinion. Layout at TPC was nicer and holes had more characteristics. However, the condition at the Greg Norma course was fantastic as well. Everything from tee boxes, fairways, and greens were pretty close to perfect. If you haven't played this course, BE WARN! There is no rough if you miss the fairways! Everything off the fairways are HARD dirt areas with very beautiful desert plants that will swallow your golf balls. I imagine that's just one of the course's element. I didn't think it was unfair since this course is much more wide open than the TPC.

This golf course is a lot of fun to play. Very pleasing to the eye, playing well here requires hitting a number of different types of shots. Course is in terrific shape, especially for August.

Pretty good conditions even in July. Greens a little crunchy and slow and bunkers a bit crusted over but when playing in 106 degree weather what do you expect? My gripe is lack of rough. If you get just a bit off the fairway you are done. Lost ball. A bush eats it or it skitters crazily across the desert to who knows where. If you are a high handicapper use irons off the tee. Or play elsewhere until your long game is more controllable. Losing too many balls on semi-ok tee shots sucks the fun out of the rest of the course for me. Other courses I might be in some big rough and can hack it out for a bogey. Not here, you are done.

I've played about 50 different golf courses in California and so far this one has one of the toughest. The fact that you don't have rough to work with makes it that much tougher. The fairways were in perfect shape and beautifully green throughout. The tee boxes were in great shape and the bunkers soft enough to hit out of (good luck). Hitting into the dessert can be dangerous and difficult but it can be done. Overall the course is great, especially if you can get a good deal.

Well designed golf course for most players. High handicappers may have trouble since stray golf shots will end up in desert areas. Be prepared to lose a few if your game is a bit on the wild side. In the wind, course will be very challenging. Good golf shot are rewarded with no goofy holes. Greens were on the wet side but very playable with good speed. Fairways were great. Holes blended in very well with some long par 4 holes. The price was steep at $195 a player at 11am start time. Will only play there once at that price. Grill was also closed and out of selected beer. Range was closed for maintenance which should be done at another time if they are going to charge full fair. Good course and worth a play.

Played this course after the Stadium course. 1st tip - greens are not the same as the other courses. Greens were super slow and lots of ball marks. The rough was basically waste area with hardpan and lots of small pebbles - not a friendly area for clubs or your hands. Bunkers are deep and punishing. Generous fairways that were lush and green.
Staff top notch and were very friendly. The carts did have coolers filled with cold water, and there were GPS on them. From a golf standpoint, Stadium is still the course to go to if you want pure golf experience.

played this course a few days ago after heading out to palm springs. course still in good condition despite soon to be closing due to overseeding. tee boxes and fairways in good condition, no rough to speak of as outside of the fairway meant you were in a waste area. i liked the stark contrast between grass and desert, very picturesque. course is challenging and there was a good variety of holes. played very slow however, took more than 5 hours to complete the round which was irritating. place was packed for a weekday. annoyed that the course didn't have a gps for the price, and you had to get your own ice and water. i had to hunt down sprinkler heads which i haven't done for a while. wouldn't mind playing again sometime as long as i brought my skycaddie with me next time.

Played here on Sunday, 08/01/10. Used the Red Dot book at played for $45. Was on the putting green before teeing off and heard a PGA West member make some comment about how her group was going to play behind some "outsiders" (some old chick who probably can't even drive the ball 100 yards). I thought nothing of it. Everything but the greens was in awesome shape. Don't get me wrong, the greens were above average for Coachella Valley courses at this time of the year...rolling about an 8 or so (very hard greens - couldn't even make a pitch mark coming into a green with a full wedge). Very challenging course - almost like target golf (at least from the tee boxes). I didn't like the fact that if you missed the fairway you ended up in the waste area or a bunker - there was ZERO ROUGH!!! The fairways were pretty wide but even if you landed in the fairway after a "crooked" drive, the ball would end up in the waste area (sometimes it would roll back into the fairway too). Anyhow, decent course - a good experience. I don't think I'll go back to PGA West for awhile though...I'd rather play SilverRock and I've heard many many good things about Indian Wells these days. Again, not a bad experience, just feel I could get a better bang for my buck in the summer.

Played Sunday 7/25. Course was in outstanding condition. Finished as a foursome in under 3.5hrs. Tees to Greens were perfect. Sand traps...Wow what can I say. I haven't played out of real fluffy sand in sometime. Kudos to the management at PGA. Will be back real soon.
