i was pleasantly surprised by this course. i personally like it the best of the pga west courses and better than la quinta mountain course. normans got a beautiful design style and look and feel of this course is quite unique. just play if for the variety from other courses. the island tees and fairways contrast beautifully with the desert landscaping.

i also enjoyed the country club feel the course has....but at the same time the design is so good that you really don't notice any houses lining the fairways. feels more like a private course than any other in the valley.

i found this course to be very difficult. some of the fairways are extremely narrow. completely fair though with the exeption of about 2 holes.

only negatives--the course has some long grass areas that are left alone and are supposed to have a native feel. i understand the design aspect of them and they would be neat but they are so poorly maintained that they are an eyesore to the crisp beauty of the design. they don't look the way norman intended. there are also about 3 or 4 holes on the front 9 that are poorly designed (playability wise)/ugly aesthetics.

other than that this is a fantastic course that is underrated.

We played this course twice last week on the package deal at La Quinta Resort. What a steal. We liked this course the best of the four we played, La Quinta Mountain, and PGA West Nicklaus and Stadium courses. The rough is desert, but if you get lucky it will roll forever, but we never did figure out how to hit out of it. Fabulous conditions from tee to green, with about the best greens I've ever played. Great service, very nice practice facility, nice pace of play.

I have played the Stadium and Nicklaus, but have never made it to the Norman course until now. This is now among my favorites in the desert. I played the black tees (6 handicap), and it was a good test, but not crazy difficult. Fairways, greens, bunkers, were all perfect. Worth the drive and green fee (whatever you end up paying). Included bottomless balls on a beautiful driving range. I will be back, what a treat.

I have played many G. Norman courses; first time on his PGA West layout. While the course was immaculate, service superb, good practice facility (closed Tuesdays), and the greens frightening, his attempt on this layout was unengaging and not that impressive. For the $$$$ the other PGA West or LaQuinta courses have better value. Solid maintenance overall, great bunkering with nice sand and receptive greens or bump and run options made the day very enjoyable. Great staff too.

This is my first time playing the Greg Norman at PGA West in La Quinta. I have played the Nicklaus Tournament Course before so I was expecting a top notch track and it exceeded my expectations. I wasn't aware that this course hosted the 2008 US PGA Tour Qualifying event two days prior. WOW...Tee boxes, fairways, greens, and sand traps in OUTSTANDING shape...especially for this time of the year.

It's a beautiful layout that makes creative use of desert landscaping with the majestic Santa Rosa mountains as a backdrop. There are many well placed bunkers and water hazards. You have to be both long and accurate off the tee to score well.

I played early afternoon on September 28th and the temps were 105F...wish fall would finally arrive out here. My buddy and I had a great time and I highly recommend this course.

Played at 8:30 am. Stayed cool enough on the front nine then up to 110 by the turn. Surprisingly busy for this time of year, over 5 hour round. Nice facility all around. Grass practice area with good ... Continue »

Played at 8:30 am. Stayed cool enough on the front nine then up to 110 by the turn. Surprisingly busy for this time of year, over 5 hour round. Nice facility all around. Grass practice area with good range balls included. Cooler on cart, you fill own ice and water from dispenser at cart barn. Nice challenging layout, desert style course. Advisable to bring a beater club as the washes can be hard with small pebbles. Greens were sharp and rolling true. If you are on target here you'll do fine. Not too long but premium on shot placement. I'd play again.

Played this course on 6-13-08. First time playing this course and didn't know what to expect. I had played the PGA West Stadium course last year, I had a great time.
We got a tee time at 3pm, took advantage of the twilight and summer rate of $50.00. The club house was small compared to the one at the Stadium course. When I check in, the starter seem to be in hurry to leave because we were the last group to play and wanted to close the clubhouse. They have a nice driving range and practice balls was included in the green fees, even though we didn't take advantage of it because we got there late. With the weather being around 100 degress or so, and on a week day, there was no one on the course. It's great playing with no one around rushing you. The tee boxes was in great condition, the fairways was perfect, they look like carpet out there. I was probably the best looking and best maintained course I had played on. It's a great course, not too difficult but challenging.

Booked a tee time through Golfnow.com for about $72 (including the fee). This is the first time i have played the Norman course and I really liked this one of the PGA courses. I thought the conditions were excellent (although according to Greenskeeper maintenance is scheduled for Monday although the course needs to devote its attention to the Stadium course - see my other review). There's fairways and desert so there is no rough. The fairways were excellent as was the sand which are deep bunkers.

Nice condition and a good test of golf.
50% of the bunkers appear to be for show and do not come into play.
Wouldn't rush back to play it.
