Played 4/6/10-----Best of the 4 I played in La Quinta last week, didnt play the stadium....carts had GPS, fairways were very generous, around the greens are where all the car wrecks are....holes 9 and 18 were a bit tricked up to say the least, but if Jack's intention was to grind all the guests nutbags to dust it worked, make sure you hit 270+ yd drives on 9 and 18 and you have a chance to par, played the blues which was close to 6600 yds....the rest of the course was fair i thought, although the elevated greens got old quick, everyone in our 8 man group had multiple times where balls hit the green or just short and rolled back into bunkers..when that much luck plays into golf its not real cool but for playing it for the first time I liked the course, greens were very undulated and semi fast, get on the wrong side of the hole forget it, was a 3 putt waiting to happen.

All the greens are elavated and surrounded by trouble. The private is also fantastic and if you get the chance to play it-jump at the chance.

Great layout with all the challenges from any tee. Many interesting holes with never a moment to relax. Good work Jack. I found many similarities to holes on Stadium by Dye. One thing- the greens were firmer than the fairways; greens ran long and fairways held. 11:45 tee time EZ Links $99 and 5 hours round (following a shotgun).
Will see this one again.

Course was in great shape, to bad it will be tore up on Monday. The course played tough in the wind. Putts rolled true and the bunkers were in great shap with lots of sand.

Played the "Nick Tourney" Sat May 2. Great golf course. Having played the Stadium course right next door last summer, I had high hopes for the Nick course to be just as nice but probably not as much of a challenge. I got exactly what i asked for. The clubhouse is amaaaazing! absolutely gorgeous. Pro shop attendents, cart boys, starters...everyone was very kind and courteous. The course was amazing. As lush a green as I've ever seen. The tees were level and lush, fairways cut perfectly, there were actually 2 distinct cuts of rough and the greens were firm and fast, but fair. The real challenge here at the Nick Tourney are the green complexes. Your tee shots are normally quite forgiving. With hills rolling down both sides of the fairways, most slightly mi sh$t tee balls will bounce back down to a nice friendly lie. This is where the fun begins. About 2/3 of the course's greens are plateaus. Elevated greens with anywhere from a 5 to 25 foot drop off the sides down to either 4 inch rough or a very lush sand trap. In order to score here you must be able to take the ball in high and soft and be able to putt on some of the fastest greens you've ever seen. Enjoy your round here for it is one you certainly won't wanna forget.

Played Nickaus Tourny Course March 28, 2009 from modified Blacks. First off, the day was glorious. 80 degrees with a light breeze. The course was in fine shape. Greens were sanded and very hard, but they did receive well struck balls, and they roled nicely. The course itself is a challenge, but playable. There is a lot of visual noise on this track. Notice the sand traps that look to pose a threat but are actual out of play. Also, Nickaus likes to direct the golfer's eye to certain areas of the fairway. Beware of this, 9/10 it's an attempt to get you to try a shot you probably should not. The rough was cut way down as not to be a problem at all. There are multiple levels for fairways (which are often built up on plateaus) and lower collection areas. Most of these areas look more threatening then they play. Fiarways are wide open, but the real challenge, of this course, is around the greens. The green complexes can be hazardess if you are in the wrong area (which usually means being long or on the short side of the hole. Think about your misses, and where you want to be if your shot is poorly played.

Other than that, it is a very good track, that I will play again. Note: The wind kicked up on the back nine. It was at least 45 mph. Three club wind easy. Just as difficult at ones back as in one's face. Play attention to club selection (duh!!) And........ENJOY

My wife and I enjoyed a week at PGA West in La Quinta earlier this March. We had the oppertunity to play the Nick Tournament course twice. Each time we had a fine round, lots of challenges. Jack seems to like to draw you into the green, starting with a wide fairway running up to bunker gaurded greens. Lots of fun! We enjoyed it so much we are returning in May.
