Let me preface this review by saying that I played La Costa on Sunday the 23rd.
OK, so I played Eagle Glenn on Monday the 24th. Compared to $$$ La Costa it was in way better shape! Kudos to the greenskeepers for the upkeep. I was NOT in any of the , so called, "concrete bunkers" mentioned in previous reviews. All bunkers I was in were tilled soft on top (at least 3/4" sand - possibly more. There were some brown spots on the course, but only in color. There was always grass in the fairways, and it was pretty lush. The GM mentioned they are reducing watering in preparation for scalping and overseeding in September. The greens were great, give or take a few ballmarks that lazy golfers don't repair. Overall, the course was in excellent shape for August. Nicely manicured.
Here's a bonus: Mention Grenskeeper.org and your greensfee is $29!!!!!!!!!! (M-Th).
But don't drink in their bar unless you like paying $6 for beer on tap. They try to recoup any $$ you save on greens fees by ripping you off at the bar. Tell them you'll go down the street to TGIFridays (acrosss from Dos Lagos) and enjoy a nice Happy Hour at 1/2 the cost!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good day to all of our Greenskeeper players. I have not been on in a while and wanted to take a moment and thank all of the people that play here regularly. On behalf of the Eagle Glen Golf Club and staff, we greatly appreciate your business.

I would also like to get you up to date with what is happening here at the course. If you are planning on playing in the next couple of weeks, these are the conditions you will experience. We will be closing on Sept. 8th to overseed our Tee Grounds and Fairways. We will also Aerify our greens during this period. We plan to reopen on Sept. 18th. Please check with us though, as we may be able to get some play out as soon as Sept 14th. When we re-open, we will be cart path only for approximately two more weeks. Weather will be the factor as to how quickly the Rye grass roots.

Prior to Sept. 8th, we have already begun drying out the course significantly in preparation to drop seed. You will see some color loss in the fairways and roughs. Play conditions will be good, but cosmetically, we will be affected. We are continuing to re-sod the course for all damaged areas as we have done over the last year. Hole 6 is nearly complete and we will then begin hole 7. (Our final rough problem area).

Throughout the fall we will continue to work on bunker repair. Over the last year, we have fixed 13 bunkers already. We have several more to go and they are expensive to do. We could do it immediately and raise our rates to cover the expense, but we feel it is not good business to do so. So with great respect to our players, we are knocking them off one by one. We hope you appreciate our continued efforts to make the course playable and keeping prices fair and providing a great value.

We try to keep our green speed around 9 ½ to 10, but some guests find this too slow, while others too fast. At the end of the day, it’s about the roll and we believe that you will find our greens always fair and true.

When you do come to play, you will notice that we are always focused on Pace of Play. We record it on our GPS system and we post it at the first tee. We do appreciate everyone who takes this seriously and helps us to keep a good pace. Ball mark repair, raking bunkers, respecting cart path requests, are all good for the golf business in general and will enhance your experience. This is why we post them repeatedly on our GPS system. We are thankful for the many of you that go the extra distance to aid us in this endeavor.

To further demonstrate our appreciativeness to the loyal Greenskeeper players, please mention that you read this review, provide our Golfshop staff with your email, register yourself as a Greenskeeper loyal patron, and I will take $20 off your next round. Played Eagle Glen 17 Aug and was a little disappointed. The greens had numerous divits, maybe a notice, politly, to guests to repair their handiwork. The fairways were lacking attention, several wet spots, lots of big ball marks, some brown spots. The sand bunkers were bad. Hard, some small stones almost unplayable. Is there a new grounds keeper? I have played here several times in the past and was always extremely pleased with the playing conditions. But, a little disappointed on Monday. The staff I met were all very professional and friendly, the desk manager, the starter, the beverage cart lady, the bar manager, etc. Koodo's to these personnel.

Played on Friday 8/14 at 3pm. Since the course is laid out in a sort of valley you get desert level heat beating down on you - 90 degrees feels like 110. However this place is fancy, upscale clubhouse and proshop is in a real posh looking area. Service was good and staff was very friendly. Cart girl Heather was absolutely SMOKING hot!

This track can play tough and it kicked my butt (I shot a 93, 5 strokes over my average for this slope level). There is a lot of room for error from fairways to greens and even if you're hitting greens and are relatively close to the flag, its no guaranteed 2 putt. The course slopes with the base of the mountain, but you can't tell really which mountain - which makes reading putts tricky. Course knowledge here is more important than it is on other courses in the area I played (Oak Quarry comes to mind). Fairways and rough were in good condition however there were some holes that seem to have drainage issues. Some fairway areas were muddy and slushy. Greens were medium fast but rolled nicely. Layout was great and very interesting - a lot of holes had force carries. The bunkers were just dumb, when you walk in a bunker and you don't leave a footprint - it's bad. If you land in a bunker, play it as ground under construction and give yourself a free drop!

We got a good deal on this course which made the pace of play tolerable - we paid $29 for a 3pm round. We finished 18 but the last hole was played in the dark. At least folks there play the proper tees - we seen a few groups appropriately played on the forward tees.

The best thing about this course are the views, which are stunning. Its a challenging track and conditions are good. I will be back.

My driver actually backed up a couple of feet in the fairway. No roll at all. Greens were in great shape and rolled very well. Rough was very thick and wet. One of my favorite courses. Scored $39 green fee on the EagleGlen web site.

Good Lord, I forgot the mention the bunkers, the only negative comment. Hard pan and wet, which is okay for a fairway bunker but tough greenside. Avoid them ... period.

Also, my brother is a 27 handicap and shot a 93, so although there's red stakes along many fairways, with some course management you high hcper's can still score here.

Hadn't played EG for years because Troon was not taking care of the place at all , but after reading some recent GK posts saying it was in better condition now, I thought I'd book it for a Friday morning ... and I was pleasantly surprised. The layout has never been a problem: it's a Corona Hills area course winding thru canyons and valleys with some distance between holes. Really nice set up. Yes, it's damp in the morning because they don't want to lose the fairways which are in good condition, so be careful where you drive your cart. Several holes are cart path only for that reason. Greens rolled fine (and I'm picky when it comes to green speed) with just the right elevation changes to keep you aware of where to leave your ball. GPS was accurate and useful, ice chest w/ice on the carts, nice bar/restaurant w/good food, clean with a modern look ... a country club feel. $49 weekday was very resonable but check out their website for specials. Sevice was great, too ... the two cart girls were HOT! Will I be back ... yessiree.
