Played 4/28 with a friend - I'm on their email list but hadn't played there in awhile so they sent out a $10 off offer. After 10:00 that meant 18 holes for $17, tough to beat anything under a buck a hole! (See the end of the review for my take on their marketing)

Service was very good, much better than I remember. New clubhouse facility is a HUGE step up, Got out about 5 minutes early and paired up with two other guys, we hit it off right away and had a very enjoyable day.

Course conditions were decent, both fairways and rough were a little patchy but very playable. Greens held shots well, putted smooth but quite slow (especially compared to what I've been playing lately). My guess was around an 8 on the stimp, while the practice green was a least a 9 so it took a few holes to make the adjustment. Hole locations were challenging - if you didn't hit it in the right spot you had a really tough lag putt and if you were short-sided you were pretty much toast.

Most tees were level but most showed a lot of wear and a couple were nearly bare where the tees were set. Bunkers were ok, not great - pretty firm but with enough sand to play a normal sand shot and consistent throughout the course.

POP was marginal for a weekday at 4:50. My companion is on the slow side but we never lost contact with the group in front of us (even on the hole where we totaled 2 triples, a double and a bogey). This is kind of the norm for this course - not sure why, I've played it early and on a fairly late twilight and it moved along pretty quick, but never been under 4:25 at any other time.

Their weekday rates are fair and reasonable for the course conditions and layout - $32 before 10:00, $27 after. Definitely worth the price and the course itself is a pretty good layout with a good variety of holes.

About their marketing - this course is QUITE proactive with those on their email list. Frequent notices about same day/next day deals, events, leagues, etc. The $10 email was really supposed to be for one, but when my friend mentioned he hadn't played there since the last time with me, they honored it for both of us. Other courses should pay attention, with the current conditions they'd get my business on a regular basis if my work schedule allowed mid/late afternoon twilights and weekends.

Played 18 this afternoon with wonderful conditions! Fairways were a little sticky from the recent rains, which is to be expected. The course played a club if not a club and a half longer due to the lack of run-out on every shot. This being said there didn't seem to be any standing water anywhere on the course. The greens were pretty furry and slower than I'm accustomed to which lead to some putts falling off line or leaving some strokes out there, but they were pretty consistent which is all you can really ask for. A good roll and a trim would have them in fantastic condition.

Sand traps were absolutely terrible. Partly because of the rains in the past few days, but there is no excuse for super hard ground underneath the sand. This is one of the most frustrating things on the golf course for me when it comes to consistency. They need to replace the sand on ALL bunkers with nice fluffy white sand. With that addition this course would be a hidden gem for their prices.

I haven't played YVGC in a few months and now that the new clubhouse and banquet center are up and running it is a much nicer course visually. The course conditions are good and worth the green fee. Some of the front nine greens are a little patchy in places but the back nine greens are actually pretty good. The fairways and tee boxes are a little thin in some areas but playable. They are usually cheaper than the better course in the area which is why it's worth the green fee. The clubhouse staff needs to get up to speed with the check-in process which took longer than it should. The pace of play can be slow sometimes but we had no problem playing within 4.5 hours. I would play here again for a reasonably priced green fee, They really could charge a little more if they worked a little harder on course conditions and I think it would be worth it.

With the new clubhouse has come a problem with kitchen/desk staff.

breakfast burro to help start my day/round.

With the new clubhouse has come a problem with kitchen/desk staff.
Checking in at 7AM I was told there was no cook available for the advertised
breakfast burro to help start my day/round.
On the 9th teebox I called the clubhouse to order my b-fast and never received
an answer. Consequently, when I "made the turn" I put in my order and 10mins
later and one group let thru I received my food.
With no scheduled breakfast cook and no desire to take phone orders the two
young women try to be as helpful as possible acting as wait/starter staff.
Would someone there please manage the process and set some procedures
to accommodate the guests going thru the clubhouse??

Played on 12/23/14. Haven't played here in 2 or 3 years. Wow! What a transformation! I actually hesitated to write a review because I'd like to keep it a secret. Fairways and greens are in great condition. Pace of Play very good. The new clubhouse is nice and the staff from the starter to the cashiers were friendly and efficient. Our only criticisms were that 1. the driving range was closed on Tuesday, 2. the traps were "hard sand", 3. the first cut rough was a little too long, making it difficult to find the ball, and 4. several of the ball washers on the back 9 had loose lids making washing a little challenging. Almost like a prankster had removed the screws. Other than those minor problems, it was a thoroughly enjoyable round. We normally play at Sierra Lakes but due to the $78 holiday green fees we opted to play at YV for $32! And glad we did. We'll be back!!

This is a course I've taken to task here for poor conditioning and management. Hadn't played here for a while but our group took a flyer and decided to come out. What a pleasant surprise. Looks like there's new management and they've turned a corner here. The course is in as good condition as I've seen in years. Greens are nice, not premium resort quality but very very good for what you pay. Medium fast, and accepts approach shots and pitches nicely. Fairways are nice and green, bare here and there with some muddy spots but over all quite playable. Tee boxes on par 3s are chewed up reflecting heavy play. Best part is a $99 for 3 rounds any time deal they are running. I've always liked this course design and the fact that it is rarely ever windy here even if it's blowing the house down anywhere else in SoCal. It's also nice that they've opened up a real clubhouse so we can quaff a couple of beers after a round in a nice room and catch the end of the morning football games today. The "foot golf" flags and buckets sprinkled around the course are a bit off putting, but whatever. Hope it makes them some coin. Keep up the good work guys!

Played 9-13-14. Course has come a long way since the last time I played here. Fairways have filled in nicely but there are at least 4 different types of grass. Greens were soft and held well but were a bit slow. Tee boxes are still chewed up but overall the course is much improved. The new clubhouse which we had been told would be open in August is still not complete. Now they say October. The course is not worth full price but online prices make it a fair deal.
