This course still needs to mature, as greens were hard & do not hold well. Also, the course definitely has a lot of slope, meaning you don't often get flat lies. Sometimes you hit great shots, but still do not get rewarded here with a good/flat lie.

Get the JC card and pay about $60 per round for five rounds (no restrictions), 10 buckets of balls, $20 guest round discounts and more. Rounds are good at any of the JC courses. First time at the course and was impressed. Great conditions, fairways a bit tight on some holes and fast, firm greens. Lots of undulations make for an interesting round. Greens are a bit too firm, was punished a couple of times with good shots. Grass driving range and ample putting area. Employees were very nice. No GPS but course was well marked. Will enjoy playing this one again.

The condition of the course is great, with superior greens and bunkers. Truly a fun place to play from the correct tees. They have a marshal in place now. Our group met the gentleman 4 times on the front. When we finally got two holes ahead of the group behind us, somewhere around the 8th or 9th, we finally lost him. They want you to move along now, and that’s a good thing I guess. It doesn’t matter if anyone’s behind you or not. They want a 4hr. 25 min round pace of play.

Played on January 12. This course is maturing nicely, though some greens are still hard to hold. Minor gripes - three employees chatting behind the counter in the pro shop while a fourth ran one cash register to check in a line of golfers; slow play caused by two foursomes that were a hole or two behind all day with no marshall intervention; and why can't people repair pitch marks on the green?!?! Other than that, it's a great course, great value, great location - really a fun track!

Beautiful new course. Play it before all the houses are built. Good possibility of losing lots of balls if you play from the wrong tees. Good test from the Blues.

Played 12/14/05 and this course is starting to mature a bit from when it first opened. The crowds are thinning out, especially on weekdays, and the greens are becoming more receptive. They were rock-hard at first and wouldn't hold even a wedge. Now they're softening up despite the fact they're still smooth and fast for putting. Some of the best greens anywhere in SoCal. Just wish players would fill divots and fix ballmarks. Great track at a great price - real jewel in the crown of JC Golf courses in San Diego County.

The course was in great shape. The greens are like pool tables. Hard to stick the greens so be aware. This was my first time and the layout was challenging but not too challenging. Very friendly staff and the marshalls did a great job of keeping the pace of play.

I would be pleased to take just about anyone to the course. If this were a links course, it would be perfect. As it is, it’s just nearly perfect. Serious players (low or high handicappers) will appreciate the ever changing challenges and the newbie (after 5 years at this game, cracked 90 only twice) will think all courses are "this" good. There are no goofie tricks to the course’s challenges and no shot is overwhelming. The variety of shots required is invigorating. Arrowood is one of those courses you’d like to play on a day when no group was behind you. You would select various places on the course and practice multiple balls until you “decoded” the challenge. Each tee-to-green shot must be thought-out and well executed. The first tee is great; from the beginning it plays with your head, begging you to over swing, or under swing or just doubt your ability to deliver a good straight shot. The reward for a good shot is immediate. It seems the fairways grant reasonable forward roll rather than having the ball fall and stick. The greens are tough but they won’t spoil a series of great approach shots. One shortcoming is the distance markers. There’re not to be trusted, especially on par 3s and approach distances. They’ll be off by a full club or more, unpredictably either long or short. In 2006, when we can use the visual “range finders” I guess the problem will cure itself. If you had no choice, and you had to play Arrowood over and over and over again, the promise of Arrowood is that your skill base will improve broadly. You will be mastering your game not merely memorizing the sweet path at Arrowood.
