Miramar is a flat straight forward course. Plenty of room off the tee. The green complexes are the challenge of the course. The greens are in very good condition. Greens held shots, rolled medium/fast speed, and smooth. The bunkers and rough are good. The tee boxes are fair to good primarily due to leveling issues but nothing severe. The fairways are fair to good with a few marked ground under repair areas. The fairway grass in on the long side but the last 15 yards or so running up to the green is mowed tight. Overall an enjoyable course to play with nice practice areas (grass range, putting green, and chipping/pitching area).

First time playing Miramar Memorial GC and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. First things first; this course was just opened to the public recently so you DO NOT have to be an active/retired service member to play. With that being said, here is how to play at this course. First, you must enter the base using the Kearny Villa Rd entrance (take a look at Google Maps to which of the many entrances that is). Second, you must stop at the booth and let the marine guard know that you are there to play golf. He will instruct you to turn into the military police booth parking lot so they can take down your info. They will ask you for your drivers license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance, so take those in with you. Once the military police officer gives you the OK, you exit the lot and get back in line and go through the booth again, this time letting the marine guard know you just checked in and he'll wave you through. Third, follow the road signs that will guide you to the course. The base is bigger than most small towns so be careful not to get lost and not to speed (the military police don't tolerate civilians blazing through their turf and rightly so). If I'm not mistaken, the course is about a mile down the road (about 4 or 5 stop signs east) and will be on your right-hand side. There is a big parking lot and the clubhouse is right next to it. The clubhouse attendee will ask you if you are a civilian or not, and your rate will be a few dollars more than if you were a service member. From that point on, it's just like any other round of golf.

As for the course, it's condition is slightly better than many of the municipal outside of San Diego (when Torrey Pines is one of your munis, nothing else compares). The layout is very straightforward and the holes are lined up pretty close together. At the date of this review, the grass was mostly green but there are plenty of areas throughout the course where you will find dirt. The tee-boxed were a little beat up but not in the worst of conditions. The real standout here were the greens for sure. Really soft but fair speeds. The course is flat and the holes are pretty straight, but there are a few interesting ones including the 600+yd par 5 9th. Overall, a good experience since the course is relatively empty and in good condition all for reasonable green fees.

Love the lay out. What is it with every military course in SD? B.B. did well here and without tractors. Has a O Muni look crossed with a few few SLRD holes in there. The course just has a nice flow to it. Up and down holes, cross wind holes. Greens are enormous for a course built in the 40's Plays longer than the 6800 it says on the card. Good set of par 3's. Some reachable par 5's. The only thing bad I can say is that the greens run like a 1976 shag carpet. And there is no need for that. It's not like they are getting blown out with play. I was six inches short on every put because they look like they will run faster but they are a solid 7 on the stimp. It's hard to force yourself to blast it unless you play here often. Would definitely come out here again. Military layout is as good as Baker North for sure.

Great course for the green fees. Have to time it to avoid the crowds but overall a good course. Green are the best I have seem for a place that gets a lot of traffic. Fairways a bit dry, the course plays very different for the back tees especially in the afternoon when the wind picks up.
