1/7/21 Played Santa Luz (Private). Practice facility and range was spectacular. Very challenging course with many bunkers. Pace of play was on point not having to wait in-between shots. Greens, fairways and tee boxes were in prime condition. Views are breath taking of ocean on some holes to canyons. Staff were very polite and helpful.

Overall well worth the money.

Got the chance to play here again on Monday 7/27 via the wonderful SCGA Members Outing's. Brenda from SCGA is a gem, always there to make sure they go smoothly and reassuring us that in spite of this being a private club, we had access just as a member would (COVID-19 restrictions enforced and notwithstanding). Second time out here and I can see why the Golfholics make this their home course; classy digs with a course that deserves to be played and challenge you. Conditions on this way were excellent, in spite of rising temps and every expectation to have maintenance wane in the age of COVID.

Tees: Played the blues and can't remember a bad stance. We were the last group of the day and even then the area is big enough you would have no issues finding level ground.

Fairways: Great shape for summer. These aren't the nice high and fluffy lies you would get at Torrey during the winter, but good coverage and excellent roll on just about every hole. Previous groups did a great job filling divots with good mix in carts.

Rough: Gross, and not in the awful "I can't believe they call THIS rough". This stuff was nasty and contentious; all sorts of grasses and at times the ball would straight disappear. I could feel my club fighting each blade of tall stuff when it tried to grab it. Enjoy

Bunkers: Surprisingly good. I was in way more sand that I am used to and I got out of it every single time; there must have been enough sand in the bunkers. Good quality of sand too, not that dirt with rocks or red clay you find at some courses.

Greens: The highlight of the round, running at 11 according to the cart, but by the time the sun came out it had to be a 12. Putts would run off the green if not careful but the roll was always true. Some tricky reads not so much on break, rather on speed. A gem to putt on.

ETC: As mentioned, kudos to Brenda from SCGA for getting this outing together as one of the first post COVID, and making it successful. Our group was only me and GK member Jon as our other two had actually misread the email and went off early, so the round was one of the most serene I have ever played with us dictating how slow/fast to play (group in front was slow at first but then sped up). Pace was still just under 4.5 but you couldn't feel it. Course is classy in every regard, clubhouse was open for credit card purchases. Facilities are so nice, saw the locker room and it rivals Aviara in terms of luxury. Restrooms on course open and the one after hole 14 was one of the most beautiful restrooms I have ever seen on a golf course. Price is steep for most, but if you get the chance I dare you to say it isn't worth the price. Highly recommend as always!

Had the honor to play this course on 8/20/18 in a best ball tournament. Service provided by staff was 5 star. This course is BEAUTIFUL. If I had the money I would join in a heartbeat. Playing here, I felt like a millionaire. The fairways were pretty open, but the views on some tee shots can be intimidating. Just don't let it get in your head. Overall the course was immaculate, but the greens were not in their best shape probably from the heat. They looked like they got burned and then they over compensated with water so they ran a lot slower than they looked. From all the Mediterranean homes lining the course I thought I was playing a round in Monte Carlo. I have played 3 country clubs in the past couple months and this one is my favorite. This course just made my top 5 list in San Diego. If you ever get the chance to play, do not pass it up.

Played here today (6/18) as part of the SCGA Members Outing. The day was a mix of ups and downs, however the course immediately jumped to the top of my favorites in San Diego. My original tee-time was 8:20 and with the course being only 20 miles away, I left with plenty of time arriving at 7:55 at the gate only to see a backup of 8 cars. Poor communication between the SGCA and the gate guard made me late so I had to play with the 9am grouping. Thankfully they were some of the most entertaining people I have ever played with so that worked out. Other than the gate delay, the event went off without any issues and although I played like horse feces, I really enjoyed the day. The review:

Tee boxes: Good shape overall. I was happy to see a good amount of tee options. The ground was a little beat up but then again we teed off later than other groups. The ground was level though and that really is what matters.

Fairways: Wonderful condition overall. The turf was bright and colorful, offered ample roll since it was a bit dry, and I didn't have a single bad lie all day. I saw workers all day and they left the fairways in really good shape for us.

Rough: Traditional rough; good shape and penal. The thick blades of long grass that lined the fairways; insanely coarse and punishing. Accuracy is at a premium on this course as there are really no holes next to each other. The traditional rough was about 2 inches thick in most places but it humbled even the hardest hitters.

Bunkers: Great condition. They were visually stunning and I saw a few workers raking them all day. The green-side bunkers offered pearl white sand that was fluffy and easy to hit out of. The fairway bunkers had a browner thicker sand that helped make sure your shots could fly out with some roll.

Greens: Excellent condition. They were dry today and rolled (according to the cart GPS of all things) at 11.5. I felt they were pretty darn fast and the breaks were actually second to the speed of the greens. The surfaces were in prime shape and condition as well, very few divots and true roll.

ETC: Property is situated in the lap of luxury. Clubhouse offered everything you could need. Staff treated me like I was a member. The carts were very nice with great GPS, coolers with waters, and ball wash. The course placed chests every 4/5 holes with more water and chilled fruit; impressive. The layout was quite fun, reminiscent of The Farms, only more difficult. For the price I was really impressed with almost every aspect of this course so close to where I work. Recommend!
