Low rating is due to aerated greens and tee boxes 10 days ago. First time playing this 18 at River Ridge and was surprised how fun the layout is. Not many people playing the lakes today due to aeration. Seems like everybody was on the other 18 holes. Finished the round in 2 hours and 15 mins(twosome).

Played on 4/28/11. Teed off at 10am and finished at 2pm (twosome). Was a little surprised that they would let out a twosome when there were three or four groups on the tee box. Weather was perfect 70 degrees but was a little windy in the afteroon and it made a few wholes very challenging on the back. Everyone was very friendly from the pro shop, starter, marshals, and even the snack shop guy. Even the guy who hit into us on the third hole was very nice and said he was sorry (would not happen in the Valley or LA). The only issue I have with this course was the driving range. Gauging distance was difficult as after 95 or so yards everything falls into a valley and you can only see the huge nets and back of driving range at about 250 yards. The greens were spectacular. Never putted better in my life. The first cut off the green were like the regular greens on most municipal courses in Los Angeles. Rolls true with virtually no bumps and balls hold the line very nicely. Fairways were coming out of being dormant but still were nice and had a lot of roll for added distance. Water on the course come into play on every hole it's on. Play away from ALL WATER AT ALL COSTS. Add wind and fast fairways into the equation and disaster will happen. Wind plays a major factor as it is predominantly coming out from the west/southwest and affects holes 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 - water hazard, tail left to right wind into the water, 13 - dead into the wind with a small landing area for long hitters from elevated white/blue tees, and 15 - short par three but dead into the wind.

Overall loved the course and a great little gem hidden in Oxnard. Plays somewhat like a links style with very little trees coming into play but elevation plays a pivotal role in determining shot making abilities and creating beautiful vista views. Cost was very reasonable at $51 with cart. Overall excellent course to play in Ventura County. So nice I'm thinking about moving out there.

Cold, windy, & sometimes rainy weather made the course even more challenging. Check out their special rate promotion for next week only.

Played the Lakes Course today 11/22 first twilight group out...played with RGM2525. Sad to say I was out here a month ago and the greens have not improved much...they are holding iron shots nicely but have a lot of poa to them and are bumpy...putts must be struck firmly here to make them. The fairways were in good shape and were brown with enough grass coverage on them to give you a nice lie. The tees were also nice and the bunkers were on the wet side from the recent rains but had enough sand in them. What a great layout the lakes course is...we enjoyed our round so much today and shot lights out on the back nine. The back nine is great with 3 par 5's. If you play in the afternoon here come ready to battle the afternoon ocean breeze. Staff inside the pro-shop were great as was the pace of play today...did not wait on one shot and we finished just under 3 1/2 hours.

Was let out just before twilight today(12:50pm) and walked the course in just under 4 hours from the tips...ru kidding me for a saturday awesome pace of play...not many people on course. Greens have recovered from recent punch but are still furry for my taste. They look super healthy and green and are holding irons and wedges like darts...the recent rains probably made them a little softer...staff might need to cut them soon...actually #16 was a fast green and in good shape. Some of the fairways had a minor punch like #3 and #16 but most fairways were in good shape with enough grass coverage. The rough has grown around some of the fairways and fringes and is nasty is some spots...the sand is fluffy and in better than average shape...mostly all the tees are level and have good sod to tee your ball up on.....great layout and always a great pace of play at Riverridge.

The Lakes course is shaping up nicely. The greens are recovering well from the punching, and will be good in a week (should be playing this same course next weekend, so I'll see how they've improved).... Continue »

The Lakes course is shaping up nicely. The greens are recovering well from the punching, and will be good in a week (should be playing this same course next weekend, so I'll see how they've improved). The are suprisingly quick too, and hold iron shots well. The only bad looking green is the ninth. Bunkers are nice and fluffy, and the rough is really thick! Fairways are lush and dormant brown, and you get a good roll out. The Lakes is beautiful right now and I highly recomend it!

Played Victoria Lakes this afternoon 3rd twilight group off....pace of play was 4 hours 30 minutes....fairways are in decent to good shape and are thick enough in most spots where you can get underneath the ball and usually do not have any hardpan lies. The fairways were green in spots and doormant brown in others but like I stated were good to decent lies. The tee boxes were level for the most part and had enough grass to tee you ball up with on par 3's without a tee. Was not in any of the bunkers today but they looked well groomed with just enough sand. The greens were punched on 9/7 and have not completely healed yet....they were actually easier to hit irons into today and were holding chips very well. You need to be firm today on the greens to make putts as the ball was bouncing a little bit. The temps today were high 80's to 90 to start the day cooling off on the back nine....a much needed respite from the warmer temps inland....the design here is one to play if you have not been out here....love the 1st 4 holes and the back nine here.

Played on 8/21/10. The course is in great shape, except for one thing: ball marks on greens. Our foursome fixed about 10 to 15 (not kidding) on every single green. Jeez! Gimme a break. That is totally uncalled for. I would have yelled at the group ahead, but they were going slow enough as it was. Other than that, not being an Oxnard resident and paying a little more, it was fun and worth the haul to get there. Weather was downright cool; about 64 degrees compared to the SCV's usual 100. Oh, yeah, bring your knock down shot for the wind.

Played at twilight with a bunch of GK'ers in the LA Golf Group League. Course is fun with a neat layout. Greens rolled well and had some fun challenges with the speed. Fairways are in good shape, and seem to have more break in them than on the greens. Lots of good trouble to get into with many lakes and bunkers, which are nice and fluffy. Tee boxes are well kept. Lost a couple sleeves of balls here today. One sleeve lost on one par 3 hole, so bring a couple extra if you aren't too consistent here.
