Played on Sunday, 6/2, with a 6:54 tee time, for $39 with the OB Sports Card. A little weird at the start. Check in with was a breeze with the golf shop staff. As soon as the cart was loaded, we were called to the starter 20 minutes prior to our time, only to be told we'll be delayed a few minutes. 5 minutes later, starter said we could head to the tee early. A little confusing, but it worked, played in just over 3:30.

Course conditions were pretty good, they're getting ready for an annual junior tournament on Wednesday. I love playing early, but hate to deal with the effects of the sprinklers. Tee boxes were level, but some had lots of divot damage like they haven't been moved. There were 2 or 3 holes were I had to move after taking my stance in a divot. Fairways were in great shape, but some had pools of water to avoid. Rough has been grown out, and probably the longest I've seen in the summer. The bunkers were wet and muddy, and one on #5 had a puddle. The greens were nice. They replaced areas on #1 (which has had problems over the years) and a few looked "spotty." However, they rolled well and at a medium to fast speed as the day warmed. I usually have to play early, so I know I need to deal with the watering schedule and the humidity it brings. Overall, I thought it was in great condition.

Played on Sunday, April 27. Received an email on Thursday for a Spring special of $59 for 2, after 11, good 4/27-4/30 for OB card members, and immediately booked the Mountain for 11:04.

Conditions were great. Tee boxes were mostly level. From the appearance of pigeons on some boxes, they have recently seeded the areas. Fairways were carpet like, with some roll. There were minimum amount of thin/brown spots, particularly around the areas were the water runs off. they have grown the rough a little where you can now see definition between the fairway and rough (which I love). The new rough length helps by slowing or stopping balls from rolling into the desert. Greens were in good shape. They looked "spotty," like a different grasses were growing, but were running smooth and medium/fast (a little slower than normal). Overall, the course is in the best shape I've seen in awhile. (They are punching greens this weekend).

Now, the down part, pace and customer service. The staff was flying through check-ins, but he did ask to see the email (from the course) to avoid the regular $55 rate. We checked in with the starter just before 11, and he asked us to wait for the other 2some that was booked (which was fine). After more than 10 minutes, and seeing no one go out, he finally told us to go out. When we got to the 1st tee, there was a group still waiting to tee off. AP has posted a pace of play of 2 hours, 10 minutes per 9, and we matched it. However, on the back, there was a slow down and it took about 2 1/2 hours to complete. Saw the marshal a few times, but he never moved up the group 2 ahead that had fell more than a hole behind. On the plus side, saw the drink cart plenty of times.

Played 3/9/2014 at 6:30 with GK jshea. Temp in mid 50s but warmed up nicely with slight but variable winds. First day of DST, but the tee time computer forgot to adjust for the time change. Wasn't light enough to tee off until about 6:45, so a little crowded in the staging area. But we got off second and finished in 3.5, so no harm.

I have been critical of the green speed this winter (way too fast), but Spring has sprung and the grass is starting to grow. Current green speed is about perfect. Some of the greens on the front side are bumpy -- nothing a roller wouldn't fix. But starting about 7 on the front, the rest of the greens were quite smooth. All the greens are quite firm, so don't expect to make any ball marks.

Fairways and rough are also starting to grow. No more thin lies in the fairway, but they are bumpy in some areas. Rough is more even but not very long. And the ball doesn't take off and roll into the desert area like it did earlier this winter.

Sand is quite nice. Just the right amount and just the right softness. Ball does not plug and no firm and thin sand areas.

Bag service is good. There is a bag drop area and a cart guy also drives around the parking lot to pick up your bag. [No carts in the parking lot.] Drink service is regular and restaurant and pro shop are efficient. Nice outside patio area with many tables and overhead material for shading. There was even a breakfast buffet this morning.

Range balls are extra and you hit off mats -- so just suitable for loosening up. Large practice putting area.

Mountain course is a good test of your game and quite fair. No long forced carries over desert area off the tee. Variety of wide and narrow fairways. Some water, but it only comes into play if you don't hit it straight. But you have to be aware of whether your hole is uphill toward to mountains (always one more club) or downhill away from the mountains (always one less club). The same mountain effect applies to the greens, especially on the side hill putts across the green.

The March 18th GK lvbigblue group should have an enjoyable day. Shorts are definitely advised.

Played the Mountain on Saturday, 2/22, with a 7:53 tee time and joined by some old high school buddies. Pro shop was busy but check in was fast. Driving range is all mats, and not all the mats have a tee. Practice green was same speed as the course. We were called to the 1st tee before our 4th arrived. The staff brought him out after we hit our 1st shots, so we caused a bit of a delay on the first hole. However, we finished in 3:45, so we didn't hold it up all day. We paid $55 with the OB card, which is now the Spring rate for weekends. That is the max of my price range.

Course was in great shape. Tee boxes level and lush. Fairways were in great shape, with only a few brown areas spread around the 18. They always seem to keep the rough short, which hurts when the ball rolls through it into the desert or water hazard. I heard the sand was nice and it appeared to be easy to hit out. Greens were fantastic. Firm, with little amount of damage, and rolling smooth and fast. Overall, course was fantastic with no conditioning complaints.

Course is in really good shape. Fairways and rough are fine. Tees are level, but the par 3 tees are a little beat up with divots, but you can still find a good spot to hit from.
I need to talk about the greens. First they are very smooth, no divots or bare spots, generally firm but you can leave a ball mark on some of the greens.
And very quick, almost to the point of being unfair on some greens. On the day I played, the pin on 6 was toward the back. Unlike most holes, the back third of this green slopes off the green. Coupled with the mountain effect, any putts from the front or middle of green toward the hole location would roll off the back of the green if the ball didn't go in the hole.
This mountain effect is less troublesome in the summer when the greens are softer, so this time of year, the firmness of the greens makes putting very challenging or unfair depending on your perspective.

If you are a medium length hitter, play the whites. On the uphill holes (1-5 and 10-14) it is always one more club than you think it is.
Cart service on course, pro shop service and restaurant service are Grade A which is typical for Angel Park. Range with mats is OK for loosening up, but not for working on your game.
Weekday OB card rate of $35 is more than fair.

Played Saturday, 12/28, 8:30 tee time with GK'er noeldaof and his brother in law. Started with an early breakfast in the clubhouse. Food and service were fine at a decent price ($6) for a golf course. Headed off to the mats-only driving range to warm up. A small bucket is definitely small, about 20 balls. We were called up to the starter and were teeing off with an added single right on time.

Course was in pretty good shape. Tee boxes were level, with some divot damage on the shorter holes. Fairways were lush, with little or no thin or brown areas. Rough is about an inch longer than the fairway, just long enough to know it, but not difficult to hit out of. The bunkers were fine, and have been improved over the last few months. You still need to watch for rocks in the bunkers that border the desert areas. Greens were in great shape. Firm and fast, with few ball marks.

What the Mountain lacks in length, it makes up with tricky greens. Putts are slower than they appear towards the mountains and faster towards the Strip. It's better to be short of the hole, as most greens run back to front. Water on a couple of holes, and only a few "forced" carries. Pace was 4.5 hours on a holiday Saturday morning, with some waiting. We paid $39, which I thought was a still for Vegas this time of the year.

**Late Review** Played Veterans' Day, 11/11, with an early morning tee time. Started off on time and finished right at 4 hours, with a little waiting on the front, and no waiting after the turn. Course was in great shape a month after tee to green overseeding. Tee boxes were mostly flat, with little amount of damage. Fairways were in great shape. A few areas had really thin or no grass (#12 stands out), but mostly great lies. Rough along the fairways was almost fairway height, maybe 1" longer, but thicker and longer around the greens. Greens were phenomenal. The #1 and 2 greens, which have been the worst on the course, have been repaired and consistent with the rest of the course. Greens ran fast and were a little firm. Overall, course was in great shape. I wish the rough was a bit longer so shots would not run through into the desert. $55 with OB Sports card is at the max I would pay, but conditions matched.

Greens are fine. Rolling smoothly, speed acceptable, toward the firm side but will leave a ball mark.
Fairways and rough look good, but still somewhat thin. Need to lift and clean since ball is picking up mud. Our group plugged at least four shots -- usually in the rough near the green since the course is quite damp. Bunkers are good and water is clear so you can retrieve errant shots.
Local weekend fee is $55 -- a little strong for the conditions, but course is still better than those not yet out of maintenance.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NOTE: Weather cooler than normal for LV, early fall. Most courses will be out of maintenance in the next two weeks. So if you are thinking of coming to LV for fall golf and NFL/college football, don't hesitate to make the trip.

JohnnyGK and I played a little "bonus" 9 holes here on Friday (8/16) evening. We stopped by to check out one of their "Hot August Nights" promotions and we ended up having time to play the front nine on the Mountain course. With two full courses, a lighted par-3 course, an awesome (and challenging) lighted 9-hole putting course (complete with sand traps and water hazards) and ample practice areas, Angel Park is a great facility. It was fun time. The Mountain course was in pretty good shape. The fairways and rough were nice and lush with some burnt out areas here and there. The one sand trap I was in had good sand. The tee boxes were mostly level. The greens were a little rough. Firm and pretty dried out, but slow on putts and with plenty of old ball marks. It seemed like the first few greens were not in as good a shape, but they got a little nicer toward the end of the front nine. Still not bad for late summer here. I actually enjoyed the layout a lot and was pleasantly surprised with the look and feel of this course. First couple holes are nothing too exciting, but it gets much more interesting and more challenging as you go. Lots of desert pines and nice aesthetic presentation with a solid layout. Definitely look forward to playing here again to check out the full course along with the other course, too. As a more reasonably priced course in Vegas, it's a very nice option. One last thing to note is the front nine routing was not ideal for a late twilight round. The first 4-5 holes face directly into the setting sun over the mountains and it's quite brutal.
