Played Laughlin Ranch for the first time on a Golf buddies trip June 6th 2010. I liked the course layout, probably the best in the area, but there are problems.

As I made the tee time weeks in advance, I paid the full rack rate, but upon check in they tried to charge extra for range balls; after I protested they relented.

The operations of the course seemed to be in disarray. We had a 10:10 tee time (pretty brave for June on the Colorado River), but because of some issues with an earlier shotgun start tournament, we did not tee off until 10:40 on the back nine. There was a starter, but because he spent most of his time inside, we had to keep looking around for him to get an update on when we would actually be able to tee off. The time kept changing from 10 minutes late to well over 30 minutes, quite aggravating.

While there were obviously many golfers on the course, the cart girl signed off at about noon. This was a real problem as by the time we made the turn to the front nine, the first water cooler, and all subsequent were empty - in 110 F heat -unforgivable.

Nice course layout. Solid variety of holes. I started on the back nine, which I thought was good, but was expecting a bit of a let down for the front, as the back nine is usually more interesting. I actually like the front nine over the back nine. The greens were in pretty good shape. Mysteriously even with a high approach, you could never find a ball mark, but still the greens held pretty well. Tees were OK, mostly level, not too much wear and tear. They need to stay on top of their irrigation system better, as some holes were pretty plush, but other areas were completely dead. I am not sure if it was by design, but there were rocks up to about half the size of a golf ball in all the bunkers. The sand was pretty good, but I don’t know if the “boulders” in the bunkers were by design, or some screw up.

There is no bar or restaurant, only a snack “window”. The course sits up high and there would be great views for a 19th hole beer, but even the snack “window” was closed when we were done with our round.

All in all worth playing if you are in Laughlin due to the views and layout, but be prepared with water, and rather poorly run course.

Badputt and I played here on Wednesday, 4/21/10-part of his birthday golf week! This is one of our favorite courses in the Laughlin area. Always a challenge and in great condition. The only gripe is the snack bar was not open when we finished the 9th so we just kept on playing. Not crowded except for the maintenance crew, so we were able to play at our own pace. We always recommend this course to friends who visit Laughlin--scenic views of the mountain ranges and the casinos in the distance. There are houses surrounding some of the holes but it is always so quiet and calm out.

Played on Friday, August 21, 2009 with Moneysworth. Received the resident rate of about $40. This course has looked and played much better in the past. Today, customer service was practically non-existent. Greens are slow, bumpy bermuda. It was 112 today; maybe they are keeping it longer to save on maintenance. You could hit right at the hole and not expect much break because greens were that shaggy. Many bare areas of rough, notably right side of 12 (cart path only GUR). Most of the fairways were pristine, however. I imagine that maintenance and service will pick up in the fall when they get more play from the snow bird crowd.

Played 02/09. Course was in good condition. Greens were about 80% recovered from apparent widespread fungal damage, but putted fairly well. Balance of course was well maintained and enjoyable to play.

Played 2 great days of golf here in August. Very hot weather this time of year. Course was showing the signs of the heat but is still very playable and a great value this time of year. Greens were good and layout is spectacular. Great views of the river valley. The customer service at this course is excellent and they treat you great with great specials in their fabulous clubhouse. A great place to hold an event that is for sure. I will be back!!

Played 8/17 and in the GK Casual outing on 8/18. The bermuda greens are firm and in good to excellent shape overall. Medium fast. Many greens have places for severe pins on this course, with slopes that could result in putts off the green if you aren't careful. The fairways and rough are excellent, especially considering it's 110+ every day. There were a few tees boxes closed for reseeding, but the ones open were well maintained. The rough is thicker and the ball will settle down where a lost ball in 2 1/2 inch rough is a possibility unless you almost step on it.

The frequent strong winds and the desert floor give this course it's main defense. Stray off the fairway and you are in "Rock City", and I don't mean Detroit. Obviously avoid the catcus, tumbleweed and rattlesnakes, but it's the boulders, stones, lava rock and sand surrounding the course which will tear up your clubs if you choose to play out of there.

The clubhouse & dining facilities were both nice, staffed with friendly, customer service oriented people. Challenging course, up/down hills, I'd rate it a must play if in the Bullhead area.

Played on Friday, Sept. 28, 2007. The course had just re-opened from their overseeding program 5 days prior on Sept. 23. Unfortunately, you couldn't tell. It was cart path only for no apparent reason. The fairways and rough were firm and surface dry. No winter ryegrass had yet emerged. It made for a difficult round if you did not hit near the cart path, as the course is quite hilly front to back and side to side. I was told the course was closed for 3 weeks for maintenance. Greens were full of dry and damaged areas. Hey, we played at American Golf's nearby Desert Lakes and conditions were much better. The greens and fairways there were recently overseeded and looked good. Also we were allowed to drive on the rough, even with new, tender grass emerging. El Rio is due to open on Oct. 13th and looks like it will be great.
