I had some time constraints but figured I could maybe squeeze in this course before heading back since I wouldn't likely be in the area again. They charged me around 35 to add on this round.

The conditions overall were pretty similar to the Championship course but slightly worse. There is some different, more crazy rough in areas to be more links style. Since I was playing speed golf, I actually don't remember that much more than that. The 1 bunker I was in was fine and easy to get out of. Greens/fairways were average 7/10 maybe.

The "cart paths" on this course are just dirt areas with no grass and sometimes rocks. The tee boxes are sometimes in weird spots, blocked by rock walls. The "signs" with the hole number/par/etc. are just plastic things hanging on a string on a temporary post so overall it's much lower budget, of course, than the main course.

Pace of play was funny. I asked the staff if anyone was on the course and they said not really, based on their computer reservation system. However, when I actually got to the course, there were about 4-5 full groups that were walking, with my guess being some college golf team, with associated coaches doing teaching/instruction perhaps. All of these groups let me play through when they saw me since they were taking their time practicing. I finished in about 45-50 minutes total. It's a fun little diversion but not something I would play again.

This was actually the 5th course(!) I played today, but the other two (St. George GC and Dixie Red Hills) aren't in the GK database yet. Will get to those later. All my rounds went crazy quick, so I decided to head out to Sand Hollow to play the two short courses. In addition to the Links Course, there is also the "Wee" Course, which is a little par-3 pitch and putt. I paid for both together and they charged me $53, which is sadly more than it costs to play the Championship Course right now! Speaking of, the main course looks to be in sweet shape and their rates in August are nice, so it's a good time to brave the heat and check that course out if you are interested. It was pretty empty out here in the early evening, so I pretty much had the Links Course to myself with a couple other groups finishing up as I was getting started. I was blazing through, not wasting any extra energy at the end of a very exhausting day. The weather was cloudy and blustery. Very windy, but still hot. Definitely links golf weather if you don't count the high temperatures. Then, the weather quickly turned very sketchy with darker clouds and lightning not far away along the mountains. If you think I'm a fast player, you should see me determined to finish the final few holes with lightning approaching! I sprinted to finish the nine and then took cover. I waited a little bit to see if the weather was going to clear, so I could go knock out the Wee Course. It did not, so I got a rain check and will probably stop by there tomorrow to take care of that one. Anyway, the course was in pretty nice shape from tee to green. Tee boxes and fairways were rather good and the rough was pretty solid. I wasn't in any bunkers, if you want to call them that. The sandy areas here are very rugged and intimidating, so you do your best to avoid them at all costs. The sand in them is a very soft red powder, but it looks like it depends where your ball ends up if you'll have a manageable lie or not. The greens were soft and receptive, a bit fluffy and also some sizable thin/burnt spots here and there. Rolling a tad bumpy at medium/slow speeds. This course is definitely more rough around the edges than the Championship Course and that's by design. If it's possible to pull of a links style layout in the middle of the Utah desert, they did a pretty darn good job. Lots of undulations, wide open fairways and gigantic greens. Punitive "bunkers" and then the outer desert/deep rough areas in play, too. They even have a hole that mimics the "Road Hole" at St. Andrews with a rock wall and a sharp dogleg beyond. There is a greenside bunker that doesn't in any way resemble a Scottish bunker, but it does look quite Hellish. Pretty dang cool regulation-length (actually quite long) 9-hole course that was way better than I expected. A fun add-on if you are already at Sand Hollow for the main course. Addendum: Went back and cashed in my rain check for the "Wee" course the following day. I don't think it gets much play as I was the only one on it. Probably best suited for families at the resort with young kids or some guys looking for some side bets after the main round(s) at SH. It's actually amazing they charge money ($25 in season, $15 summer) to play this tiny pitch and putt. There's only hole that's maybe 60 yards and the rest are in the 30-40 range. Kinda fun through the landscape and it has some character, but at most they should charge a few bucks or ask for a "suggested donation" a la Shorty's up at Bandon Dunes. Otherwise, this should just be a unique extension of the practice area (it's located right in between the range and the Links Course).

We had some time to spare before sunset and decided to check out the Links Course. We kept the same carts and paid $35 in the proshop before heading out to play. I'm not sure that $35 is any sort of deal for a nine hole course, but it is probably less money than we would have lost in the casino back in Mesquite. So, it kept us out of trouble!

The wind started to pick up right as we teed off which made the Links Course brilliant fun to play! I played the black tees which are 3,687 yards. If you played it twice the rating would be 73.2 and the slope would be 126. Like the front nine on the Championship Course, The Links Course is set on a flat part of the property. It is actually on the other side of the condos that are being built, between them and State Route 7. If you like to walk, then you certainly could do that here.

The Links Course has similar features as the Championship Course, including large, sloping fairways, sagebrush bunkers and top-notch scenery! The routing is more simple with most holes heading out or in from the spot where the first tee and ninth green are located. There is a rock wall that you play over a couple times, but no real fancy design features. It is just you and the desert out there. Only the par 3's play across the section of the property where the course is located. I suspect that has to do with the usual winds, because when we played most of the holes were either downwind or into the wind.

I'd say that the course played like a links course is supposed to play, which made it so much fun! Winds of 20+ mph and firm ground had me forgetting about yardages and trying different shots! I was just off the green in two on the 580 yard 3rd hole and hit driver and an 8 iron on the 486 yard 7th (par 4). Then I hit a waist high hybrid and driver off the deck on two into the wind holes! Trying shots I don't normally play is what made the Links Course so much fun for me.

I thought the conditions on the Links Course were better than the Championship Course. The fairways were fuller, there were fewer divots and the greens were faster than the Championship Course. I'm assuming this gets less play, so it is probably easier to keep in sharper condition. My only grip about the Links Course is that some of the greens, specifically the 4th and the 8th, were a bit silly with their excessive slopes and breaks. Is the Links Course worth playing by itself? Probably not, but I think it pairs nicely with the Championship Course.

Played 9/9 in some pretty hot weather (101) but hey as they say "it's a dry heat". We also played right after a large tournament that day, so the course was not in the best of shape but pace of play was great. Customer service superb at all levels. Tee boxes were acceptable. Fairways showed a lot of bare/burnt spots due to the recent summer heat and water restrictions but overall playable. Sand traps were messy from lack of raking during the tournament. Greens were in surprising good shape, given the recent tournament that day. Still a beautiful golf course and glad I had the opportunity to go back and play it again, after so many years. THIS REVIEW SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP 18. SORRY MY BAD.

Very large greens with lots of breaks to deal with.
The staff was very helpful and got me right out. Played in 1:45 as a single several groups let me play thru.
Fairways tight with lots of roll out. Not much rough but if you miss the fairways you are in the desert.
Greens had lots of ball marks but still rolled nicely. Large greens.
Overall a very fun afternoon.

Played the Links after 18 on the Championship course. I have to say this was the most fun 9 holes I played all week. I love the design and challenge that links golf brings.
