The Las Vegas Country Club has a very convenient location, being a bit east of the north side of the Strip, near the Wynn and Resort Worlds. It's nestled in a housing tract with very old but still nice houses and has views to many of the nearby casinos. Because it's in the valley and there's many trees on the course, it's protected from the winds mostly, which was great for me.

The conditions were the highlight of the course. Fairways were lush throughout. Greens rolled true and held balls decently well. Bunkers were hit and miss, but mostly good. A couple had very thin sand. The rough, which I visited all the time, was brutal at many times, being quite long and penal.

The overall layout isn't super interesting. The holes are just straight and flat, with a few having some water to break things up.

I don't see pace of play being an issue since it's not that popular. There was a foursome that held things up a little (they were still under 4 hours pace) but let me play through around hole 10. Otherwise, a couple 2somes and a single were all I saw. I finished in about 3 hours.

There is GPS on the carts. Service was great. They had tons of water bottles in a giant cooler for the hotter weather.

It's a nice course overall and I'd recommend it. Membership isn't really for me especially since I'm not local but the price seemed pretty reasonable if you're into that sort of thing. The only downside might be the holes kind of lack character and aren't overly memorable (other than maybe the plane hole).

I had some time constraints but figured I could maybe squeeze in this course before heading back since I wouldn't likely be in the area again. They charged me around 35 to add on this round.

The conditions overall were pretty similar to the Championship course but slightly worse. There is some different, more crazy rough in areas to be more links style. Since I was playing speed golf, I actually don't remember that much more than that. The 1 bunker I was in was fine and easy to get out of. Greens/fairways were average 7/10 maybe.

The "cart paths" on this course are just dirt areas with no grass and sometimes rocks. The tee boxes are sometimes in weird spots, blocked by rock walls. The "signs" with the hole number/par/etc. are just plastic things hanging on a string on a temporary post so overall it's much lower budget, of course, than the main course.

Pace of play was funny. I asked the staff if anyone was on the course and they said not really, based on their computer reservation system. However, when I actually got to the course, there were about 4-5 full groups that were walking, with my guess being some college golf team, with associated coaches doing teaching/instruction perhaps. All of these groups let me play through when they saw me since they were taking their time practicing. I finished in about 45-50 minutes total. It's a fun little diversion but not something I would play again.

Sand Hollow is mostly in the middle of nowhere outside the resort, which has rooms and the golf course. The isolation is nice with little outside noise. It looks like they're still working on construction as they're building new bathrooms on the course to replace some temporary ones.

Fairways overall solid and the rough was long enough to be difficult to get out of. The bunkers with the red clay/sand were interesting and overall in good condition. The greens were solid with pure roll. The course isn't too difficult because the fairways and greens are large.

Pace of play was a little over 4.5 hours as it was pretty busy in pockets. I think they're having pace problems since they recolored the tees to be one lower than before (previous white now blue, etc.). The front 9 isn't overly impressive but the holes on the back 9 with the cliffs on the left side as the signature holes were great and worth seeing.

It also made for an interesting dichotomy. The front 9 near the super nice resort buildings compared to the back 9 near the valley, where outside a couple of mansions, the rest of the houses down below were very old and mostly run down.

I was scared of the previous complaints about the service but nothing notable happened with me and they were friendly and helpful.

I would recommend playing the course at least once but personally I wouldn't go out there again just because it's a bit of an extra trek from Vegas and there's places like Wolf Creek that I personally like more.

Anthem shares its name of the huge housing tract with the same name, with maybe 1000? houses in this area around the course.

Fairway to green, I was pretty impressed with the level of well-maintained green grass coverage with relatively little dead areas. The rough is quite long and penal if you're in there, grabbing long clubs so it's important to stay in the fairway. Bunkers were great and well maintained with the right amount of sand.

The layout did vary nicely between the holes, making for an interesting round. On a couple of the holes, you can see the Strip but most of the time it's the surrounding houses. It seemed like every 2-3 holes, there was a street crossing between houses to get to the next set of couple holes, in case that matters to people.

The staff/service was friendly and helpful. The carts don't have a GPS so one tip is to ask for the restroom code at the start of the round so you can access it around hole 7 and 13 instead of hoping a staff member is around to give you the code.

I would mostly recommend this course with one huge caveat. While the physical condition of the course is great and the staff/maintenance staff is top notch, I honestly didn't enjoy the round overly much because of the weather. Rant about the wind (around 25-35 mph constant, gusting to 55 mph). Club selection didn't matter at all with it being 4+ clubs (50 yards) at times. It was tough at times to even take a stance and especially on the elevated tee boxes, waiting a minute+ didn't help. Greens were pure so a ball at rest might suddenly get blown 10 feet a minute after stopping at rest. Medium length putts might move an extra 5-15 feet from just the wind and the flagstick was at a 30-45 degree angle at times.

Pace of play was pretty speedy. My guess is normal pace is a little above 4 hours since it's a very difficult course. I finished in a bit under 3.5 after playing through a couple groups and taking pictures everywhere. No one else was on the course by the back 9. The starter had a completely packed tee sheet (4somes at every available time slot), but he said when (not if) it gets windy, more than half the members will just no-call, no-show since they can just get a tee time the next day. From what I saw, maybe 80% of the people didn't show up.

This course was a mixed bag with highs and lows.

The first 14 holes were below my expectations. The fairways, greens, and rough all had tons of random dead grass so it was not visually appealing at all. The bunkers were just wet sand. While obviously still much better than a random muni, it just didn't seem like a high quality private club after seeing how different DragonRidge was. There were still nice views with large elevation changes and big horn sheep(?) just wandering around.

Then, it was like a different course arriving to 15. There's a plaque mentioning that the final 4 holes are some of the best finishing holes anywhere and it wasn't wrong. The layout, decorations, and views were some of the best that I've seen. There were pristine tee boxes, large canyons to carry from the tee, waterfalls. 18 was literally jaw dropping driving up and cresting over a hill to get to the top of the course and get a great view of Lake Las Vegas. Which left me wondering why there was such a sharp contrast between the first 14 and the last 4.

Pace of play is likely to be a problem. While I finished in under 3 hours, I played through 4+ groups, including 2x slow 5-somes (all seemed like friendly members of the club that just accepted that things were slow) in a row. My guess is that members can do whatever they want, whenever, and the club lets them. I saw them just randomly driving their private golf carts (so no gps restriction) all over the place, including near the greens. Staff and service were excellent.

I would tentatively recommend this course just for the last 4 holes. They were that good, but it just makes the other holes more disappointing after seeing what they're capable of.

Overall, conditions here were very good. The fairways and rough were mostly green and quite wet. As such, there wasn't much roll out on any shot. I did notice that large sections of the rough had large patches of dead grass and also, particularly near the cart path, there were thin, deep grooves of mud that interrupted the normal grass (not wide enough to be cart damage), not sure if that's an intentional thing or not. The greens did look like they were still recovering from the summer and some aeration but rolled true. The bunkers were also very wet with harder sand in them.

Pace was not an issue, at a little over 3 hours, playing through 4 groups on the front nine. By the back nine, there was literally no one else on the course. It's hard to really comment much on the service as it was hands off after getting a cart (no starter, no one at cart return, etc.). The views and the layout are the strengths of the this course.

There's plenty of existing reviews with the general info about the course. A few specific notes:

-Must stay at MGM property but excludes Luxor and Excalibur now.

-Increased price starting this season because the course was getting too much play earlier this year (~15 rounds/day).

-Tee times are very approximate since they don't want anyone to feel rushed to start at an exact time and are in theory scheduled 15 mins apart.

-Each reservation gets its own tee time, whether that's 1 or 4 players (they don't pair you with anyone else) and each group gets their own forecaddie.

I had the first public round out of overseeding so the course was literally pristine with pretty much the best possible conditions on every facet. Greens were running about 12 and not overly firm. I was in a lot of bunkers. They weren't Pebble fancy but fluffy and easy to get out of. There were very minimal pitch marks or divots.

My guess is that conditions would be a bit worse but still great during more off-peak times of the year. Pace of play was obviously not an issue, slightly above 3 hours even stopping for pictures on every hole. I felt like the caddy plays a large part in enjoying the round and ours was very amicable and knowledgeable. Service in general was friendly all around.

Would recommend highly as a bucket list type course if the high price isn't an issue.
