IW is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Even with the suprise Verticut happening today, but fortunately I only had to play on 3 holes that way.

Staff is awesome - got me out 2 hours early as I was ahead of schedule. Went out as single, starter told me there were 3 foursomes ahead and that I should go to #4 or #5 to start. I went to #5 just ahead of the first foursome, and didn't see another golfer.

Verticut is probably done now, so my conditions report is meaningless. Count on immaculate conditions after October maintenance.

Not much to add to the rest of the 9/9 GK Gurus. The course was in very good summer shape for the desert. The greens were the biggest surprise with them being very receptive with excellent grass coverage. With the high temps they were running medium-slow but consistent. Tee to green the course was in great shape as well; great teeing ground coverage as well as fairways. Can't say much about the bunkers as I was only in one fairway trap but they looked more than acceptable. Saw the beverage cart a few times and the iced towels on Hole 1 were much appreciated!

Played 9-9-18 with a small GK group teeing off around 10am and finishing in a little under 4 1/2 hours. Tee boxes were in good shape, level and lush. Fairways were very nice, great lies with descent roll out and very lush. Rough was in great shape, cut down fairly low and pretty easy to hit from. Was in two greenside bunkers that were in just okay condition, they had descent sand that just needed to be groomed. Greens were in very good shape rolling fairly true at medium/slow speed and semi- soft. Very fun semi-challenging course with a nice variety of holes and great customer service. Thanks to John and Indian Wells for setting this up.

Played Sunday 9/9. I knew I needed to pick a place special for the GK Cup 12 semifinal so did not hesitate to contact Indian Wells Golf Resort. Always, I mean every time I have ever played here, on either golf course, the playing conditions and service have been outstanding. This time was no different.

It was a scorcher so teeing it up at 10:00am pretty much gave us the course to ourselves. We did finally see a group behind us on the back nine. Despite the heat, and the extreme heat the area has been getting this summer, Indian Wells Golf Resort Players Course was in fantastic summer shape. Greens, bermuda, rolling smooth, firm and moderate speed (certainly not slow as you might expect from bermuda greens this time of year). Fairways, bermuda, lush, perfect lies all day. Rough, bermuda, lush, full coverage, cut down to just 2 inches uniformly throughout the course. Tee boxes, bermuda, lush, level and cut just below fairway height. Bunker high quality sand, both greenside and fairways, firm and compacted at times, I sampled quite a bit of them, adjusted right away to the firmness and they played well for me.

We were playing a competitive round having to putt out and concentrate more so we finished in just around 4 ½ hours. Had it been a casual round, I think we could have finished in under 4 hours.

First time experience here, we warmed up on the small driving range in the wash below the bridge leading to the golf course first tee boxes. Sounds bad but actually was gorgeous. Level, perfect bermuda with a nice backdrop. Note, I’ve been in the wash quite a few times while playing the Celebrity Course hole 9 doing the hill climb out of it. LOL. Much better experience hitting range balls instead!

One more note, they will be starting overseeding maintenance on 9/27 so expect the golf course get drier as they lead into it.

Played 9/9 with Johnny, Matt and Robert for the GK semifinals. Conditions for this time of year with the heat we've had were excellent. Customer service was the usual - meaning it was outstanding! Helpful and encouraging without ever being "pushy", this place should host clinics on how to take care of golfers. As noted by previous reviewers, almost everything is in great shape and well maintained, with one exception - the bunkers (I was in enough to know!). Thin layer of soft/dry sand but underneath it was damp and VERY firm, making a normal "blast" shot almost impossible. Only two options: 1) "muscle up" and take way more sand than you want just to insure you get out on your first shot, or 2) try and nip it off the sand with a lob wedge taking as little sand as possible. Sand quality itself is good, they just need one deep dig/rake and they'd be fine. To me, the best way to describe the difference between the Celebrity and Player courses is this: If I was picking a course to play 3 or more days per week for pure enjoyment it's Celebrity hands down. Still a solid challenge, it's more visually pleasing and seems to have a more relaxed vibe. If I want to check the state of my game, I'm hitting up Players. Big shout out to Johnny for getting this set up, other than the heat it was a great day. Get out here soon though, maintenance is starting on the 27th. Definitely recommended (at least if it's below 105 degrees or so!)

Played with the GK Cup group at Indian Wells and was excited to take on the Players course this time after being wowed by the Celebrity course the time before. Two very different 18s for sure, but both of great quality and fun.

Conditions just before what I imagine will be the winter re-seeding were pretty exceptional across the board. Fairways were in terrific condition in almost every area, while the rough was also quite lush and green but not too difficult to hit shots from. The bunkers were good, not great, but the tee boxes were more or less perfect - and what a variety of tee boxes to choose from. We played the orange tees and there were still two other sets behind those - now that would be an immense challenge.

Greens were really great. The green complexes are very interesting and challenging for sure. Some large, some small, but all very complex and tricky in their own way. They were probably rolling around a 10 or more I would imagine, but held shots well and rolled true. Not too many ball marks to worry about either which is always a nice benefit of a higher end course.

Cart service came around many times on a very hot day, and there was ample ice and water at refreshment stations every few holes. Just a top-notch experience from soup to nuts. As for the layout itself, really fun and challenging par 4s with not too many elevation shifts but plenty of water features and carries to torment. The par 5s were fairly tame but still gave me a hard time, while the par 3s were all very similar at between 170-180 yards with the exception of 17. Some narrow holes for sure that made you really sweat the tee shots.

Outstanding service from the Indian Wells crew and everyone there from the bag drop until the very end. They do amazing work here at this resort and it will always be a pleasure to play here. I can't wait to come back and play a better round!

Played 9/9 with Nick, Perry, and Ron on a very hot day. The temp was 110 with light winds. Thanks to Johnny for setting us up with an additional round to the GK Cup match going on behind us. I got there early and took advantage of their Sunday brunch which was tasty albeit expensive at $32. It did include bottomless mimosas and bloody mary's so that is an advantage if you like those drinks.

Conditions were very good for this time of the year especially with all of the heat that we have had in August. Bermuda grass was in great shape from tee to green. All aspects were lush with little to no heat damage. Greens were firm but slow I had some troubles getting shots to stop and spin but nothing to serious to be mad about.

Personally I like the celebrity course more even though it only has 2 par 3's and 5's. Players is a par 72 and has some great character but the three of the Par 3's were playing 175 yards which is too repetitive for my liking. I also noticed that on the fairways I seemed to always be 145 yards out or so. Not a ton of distance changes on the Par 4's. We played from the orange tee's today and the par 5's are still long and designed to make your 2nd shot very difficult with either water or sand to protect the greens.

Overall the Players is still better than most courses out in the desert but personally I'd choose Celebrity over players any day.

Rode the Orange Tees (6538/71.6/130) with Matt, Perry and Ron in around 4.5H mid day. The weather was over 110, muggy, clear and fairly calm. Thanks to Johnny for setting this up and for IW for having us out! Really like this John Fought layout that features 7 sets of well spaced tees. Par 72 (37-35). The course is a good mixture of flat and rolling hills. Challenging layout featuring many holes with fairways that are either narrow in the landing area or require turning the ball to get in prime positions. The course conditions were excellent overall. The Bermuda tees were lush and nicely maintained with few divots. The Bermuda fairways were lush and very nice to play from. The Bermuda rough is mowed down and not overly penal with good coverage. The sand traps were well maintained with fine sand. The Bermuda greens were smooth and putted medium speed. Firm with few ball marks. These large greens have many subtle undulations with few straight putts. Large challenging green complexes. I appreciate this layout more with each round played here. This course would be challenging to walk since there are numerous tees hundreds of yards from the last green. The customer service is always excellent here. Plenty of ice/water stations on the course. Nice GPS on the carts. Cart gal was around numerous times. Complementary range balls on an all grass range is a plus. Highly recommended.

Course is in amazing condition. Lush from tee to green. Bunkers were all in great shape. Greens held most high lofted shots but if you come in low it may not hold. Greens rolled true but much slower than you would think for how firm they are. Great course.
