Played Feb. 14th. Resort type course, generous fairways, generally large greens. The greens hold a shot, but can be tricky to read, they are large, so you can have some very long putts. Par 3's tend to be uphill tee shots. #17 is a pistol of a par 3, HUGE bunker on right side and in partially in front make it a tough one for sure. Good track though, well maintained, friendly staff. One issue, cart girl had no sandwiches, said we could order it and she would bring it out to us. Ordered on the 8th green, got it on the 17th green...I think she forgot, that happens. Got a VERY good rate on their own website $51+tx , for a 1020 tee time, can't beat that. Enjoyable course.

Played 11/08/12. Course re-opened for one week after over-seeding. Was in really good shape. Employees are very friendly. No coolers on carts are a draw-back though. would definitely play again. Nice ... Continue »

This will be a combo review since I played it back to back.

Round 1: w/ Gadgetgirl on June 10th - Sunday 12:52 tee time Great deal on Golfnow.com Played as a twosome - pace 3 1/2 hours.

I was going to play somewhere else (Gold Canyon) but a brush fire broke out overnight in that area so I decided to play the Legacy a second time.

Round 2: w/ fellow GK'er DcoachL on June 11th - Monday 1:30 tee time.
Golf shop had a resort rate for $25 plus AZ taxes after 1pm. Pace 4 hrs.

Layout: Overall it's a fun, challenging yet very playable for all skill levels. Par 3's are not that long except for #17 which played into a crosswind, VERY LARGE BUNKERS around the multi-tiered green. (Our timeshare room overlooked this hole).

Interesting note, on hole #7 PAR 3 135+ yards, there is a large bush that blocks most of the greens view from the BLACK tee box.

Fairways are plenty wide but some hole layouts it's better to play a fade up the left side of the fairway which keeps you from getting a blind second shot to the green EX: Hole #3. Avoid the deep faced bunkers on this course & you'll be able to score well. EX: Hole #8 Favor the right side of the fairway otherwise a badly lined tee shot will find the left side bunkers with mounds to carry, essentially a BLIND approach shot on this par 5!

The 18th hole is a great finishing hole that plays all uphill. There are (3) restored Silo's on the right side of the course. History has it this course was built on some old farm land and the course designer has kept it as part of the "theme". You will find various metal tractors, wagon wheels on the tee boxes.

Bunkers: Poor condition for the type of course that has been designed. Deep faced bunkering but the sand was very thin which was inconsistent on a few holes.

Fairways: Overall were in good condition, after all it is summer time in AZ! Areas at the time were starting to turn brownish color but still playable. Average divots available.

Greens: Considering at the time (early JUNE) were in recovery mode from being punched, rolled much better but we just could not adjust to the inconsistent speed. Pace would start out fast then quickly died once near the hole...

Practice range: All Grass, each player is given 1 bag of range Taylor Made range specials (approximately 30 per bag). Nice large green with a separate pitching/chipping green which is perfect if you don't have time to hit golf balls.

Cust service: top notch...maybe a little overboard for my taste. When I checked in at the pro shop to pay, I was being patient told them I'm in no hurry, still need to wait for my other player to arrive. The Manager in my opinion was snapping fingers @ his staff & pointing to take care of me pronto... even when I said I'm in no hurry (cool inside the pro shop).

Since we were staying at the resort for our timeshare week, it was very nice to have a golf course on site!

P.S. Since it's PART of a timeshare community (SHELL VACATION PROPERTIES), found it to be very RUDE & HIGHLY ANNOYING to check-in for our room after a 7+ hour drive, but for the TIMESHARE STAFF to hold our parking pass "hostage" until we spoke to a TS representative...THAT was the last thing we thought would cross our minds when we checked in...

So if you are visiting this property, get ready to be hounded by the TS STAFF...to view a presentation. DO NOT FALL for the FREE or "50%" off golf trick....JUST go to www.GolfNow.com like I did.

We stayed at the Legacy Resort and decided that we should play the course. This time of year the green fees are cheap with unadvertised rates of $30 before noon and $25 after 1:00 PM.

This course is challenging enough that you need to play it a couple of times to learn certain holes, but not too tough where your first round will be too hard to score well.

This course is built on old farm/ranch land and so the theme is obvious with silos and farm equipment such as wagon wheels, old tractors, and wagons placed near tee boxes for a rustic feel.

Greens: Tricky in that the approach shot would be fast at first and then the ball would slow. So my approach/chips shots were slow all day. Here's the tricky part. When you putted the ball rolled fast. So it was hard to adjust to slow/fast. A nice touch was the painted white cups and the yellow, white, and purple flags instead of the traditional red, white, and blue for front, middle, and back pin positions. Some greens were punched a few weeks ago, but did not affect roll too much.

Fairways: Good except for a few brown areas and some wet spots. I assume the extra water is to prevent the browning/burnout of the fairways. The fairways are very wide so if you are working on your fairway stats, then you will like this course. ;-)

Sand: Tough traps. Some are very deep and the sand/dirt on top of hard mud is thin. Even some of the fairway bunkers are deep. For example hole #3 has a deep fairway bunker on the right.

Overall: Loved it and definitely would play it again.

Played 5/7. A friend got us a good deal since he knew the head pro. We got a 9:16a Tee time for $49 instead of $69. Range balls included. It has been 3 years since I played this course. I know it has gone through an ownership change since then.

The over all condition of the golf course was phenomenal. Every part of the course was in great shape. The fairways gave you a great lie. The greens were fast, but they were smooth and true. Rough was not very long and easy to play from.

The course has a good layout. It's fair for all levels of play. The fairways are generous and the greens are large. The places to avoid are the deep sand traps.

It has an excellent practice range, chipping area, and practice putting green. We saw the beverage cart 3-4 times. They have an outdoor grill at the turn. Outside service was good. Definitely would recommend the course. They look like they are getting ready to micro-punch it soon.

Played on Sunday 8/09 as a single inserted into a threesome. Not a problem, except the starter decided that I had to give back my cart and put me in the with 3some meber who was riding solo...no reason to do that given that there were literally only seven more golfers total teeing off after us, including two singles who were each allowed to keep their own cart. Minus one for positive customer experience.

The course itself was in solid shape. A few teeboxes were a little dry, but the fairways were in excellent condition. The greens were bumpy and very fast, appeared to have been punched about 2-3 weeks ago. Sand traps on this course are very penal, especially fairway bunkers. Lips are very high, making for an extremely difficult approach shot. I've always liked this course because it is challenging yet fair, not tricked up at all and it'll reward the player who makes good shots while penalzing those who do not. Water does not come into play until the back nine, and then in a limited capacity. Legacy does boast the hottest cartgirl I've seen in Phoenix this year, but the "hospitality director" who used to hand out mango scented wet towels was nowhere to be seen.

Played Legacy today for the first time. $69 green fee. Got started on time, very busy day at the course. It is a good course, a resort type course in that fairways are fairly wide, greens big. There are lots of sand traps, both fairway traps and greenside. Stay out of them, or be a decent sand player!!! The course was in good shape, greens and fairways were good to very good. Big greens with undulation, and some subtle breaks. There seemed to be a change in speed from the front to the back 9's, but we got used to it after #11. I did enjoy the course and will probably play it again. There are plenty of houses/condo's around the course, but they really don't come into play or bother the player, much like Raven (at) South Mountain. Play it if you get a chance, lots of good deals around.

Plated March 14. First time playing here, was very impressed. Have always heard Raven was better so put off playing here. This is more of a subdivison course but very well laid out, liked it as much as Raven. The course was in very good shape except for ball marks on the greens and little sand in the traps. This course gets a lot of play so the ball marks are understandable. The traps being so thin is not, I bounced up into the ball several times making these deep traps impossible. Still, will definitely play here again.

Returned to Legacy Sunday 9/27. Fairways were getting dry as they get ready to overseed, tee boxes were very thin and filled with divots. Greens were still green, very fast and not much break to them.... Continue »

Greens were still green, very fast and not much break to them. Biggest problem was pace of play: teed off at 1:30 and did not finish until near darkness after 6 PM. Definitely disappointed. Still running out of water at the designated water stations; clearly it is not a priority make sure their guests stay hydrated. Odd.
