Played 4/20. 1:40 tee time. $39+ tax included green fee & cart fee. A lot has changed for this course since I last reviewed it twice in '09. It's been going through a bankruptcy. They never got the clubhouse built. The course is still a good tough track. Very long from the tips. Over 7300 yards. Three of the four Par 3's are 220, 230, & 240 yards respectively.

Overall the conditions were good. The course lacked some amenities and attention to detail. Ex. The rough and fairways were in good shape. But, they had many old divots and didn't give you any bottles of sand to fill them. The sand traps were good. Plenty of sand in them. The greens were inconsistent and firm. Not real receptive to mid and long iron shots. However, the speed putting was mid-fast. About a 10.5. They were mostly bumpy not smooth.

Beverage cart service was good. Snack shop was still open at the turn. Carts have this annoying smart cart feature you can't shut off. Outside service was fair. Mostly due because they were short handed. It will be reasonably priced in the summer. Still worth playing even though it's not what it once was.

Played Dec. 27/09. It was my first time back since the renovation. The greens were running about 10-11, very fast, and they ran very true! Although they were still not fully "green" still a slight brown tinge to them. The fairways and tee's were good. Bunkers and rough were ok. They have taken out many of the old (dead and dying) trees but I don't think they have replaced them, so the course is actually much easier than it used to be. We paid $49, so the rate was good however we were 5 hours (again at this track) and the group ahead was 2 full holes behind, but no marshalls at all, poorly done!! I am not sure if I would play again, and I really could not have pointed out many (any) improvements to the course! Now I hear there may be difficulty having all the improvements completed...too bad. It WAS ONCE a good layout that simply need some improvements. I don't see it/them.

Played this course 9/19/2009 for the first time. It is a Phoenix muni and is one of the nicest muni courses I have ever played! Was recently renovated after years of apparent neglect and they did a superb job on the renovation. There are still some parts that are rough . . the pro shop is a trailer, and many of the cart paths have yet to be completed, but the course itself is very nice. Probably had some of the nicest sand in the bunkers that I have ever hit out of . . it was a treat, let's hope they keep it that way! The course layout is a little bit confusing, and there were a couple of times we had to ask the cart girl for directions to the next hole, so that could be improved. They had punched the greens a few weeks ago, but they were still very nice. The par 3's are long, the par 4's a nice mix of long and straight combined with short and doglegged. The bunkers are very strategically placed, forcing you to think more than most muni courses do. The staffers were very friendly and helpful, and the location is very convenient for travelers in and out of Phoenix. This is a muni I will definately play again when visiting the Phoenix area.

Played 7/18. Online rate of $27. Included Green fee & cart fee. I reviewed this course 4 1/2 months ago, 6 weeks before the LPGA tournament. It wasn't in great shape, but I wanted to give it a second chance. Well, I'm happy to say it's in much better shape then it was before. The fairways & rough were much more lush & softer this time. The greens have healed from aeration. They are softer and hold shots better. They were a little bumpy, rolling about 9.5. More of the practice facility has been completed. They now have the chipping & putting green finished. Still a temporary trailer for the pro shop & refreshments, but they did build a covered wooden deck attached to it. I took new photos to show the updates to the facility & the improved look of the course.

Played 2/3. Paid an online rate of $70+tax, included practice balls. Golf course has been open only 3 months after a major renovation. It's now a 7333 yard par 72. Rating 75.0/ Slope 130. Lakes have been changed. Now they are more of a factor on some holes. The biggest change though, is the elimination of 150-200 trees throughout the course. (Many were Eucalyptus trees which were dead already & the others were removed so their roots would not interfere with the new irrigation system.) Overall, the course needs more time to mature. The tee boxes, fairways & rough are good. They play hard and fast. I thought the bunkers were very good. Lots of soft granular sand. If you fly shots directly into them you could have a 'fried egg' lie. Greens aren't the best right now. They just need more time. They are fast & bumpy. They were so hard underfoot that it was hard to make a ball mark on them. Good shots could land on the front and hold the back of the greens. Staff & Service were good. Right now the amenities are lacking, cart paths aren't put in yet, on course bathrooms are being built & they still need to build the clubhouse. Given time I think it will get its good reputation back. I'll post photos.

Played 1-1-2009. First time back since the remodel. Always my favorite muni in Az. A desert course with elevation change, nice views. The city pulled a Torrey Pines and handed the course over to a private company to renovate and run. The course is in much better shape tee to green and rough. It will take at least a year for the greens to come in and hold. Unfortunately, They have taken out way to many trees. There will be very little shade in the summer. Also, the $130 green fee is rediculess, the course is no where near finished, no club house, very few cart paths. Sand is way to soft and heavy, a bad combination. Beware #1 hole. The green now slopes to the water, a long approach will not hold and get wet.
