Well this is a bit of a delayed review. I played it on April 9th, some 2 weeks ago. I had heard about the course before but just never got around to playing it. checked in at the pro-shop, got a very good deal from one of the web-sites, $50 all in. Our tee time was 0903. Lengthy drive from pro-shop to starters shack and course itself (not near as far as Quintero, but a ways away). The course is in a nice setting, and although you can see houses etc, they don't really come into play. Most of the fairways were wide, so you could hit them with any sort of a decent t-ball. Lots of dog-legs. Driver not always the play on the par 4's (and one par 5). Several holes had severe elevation changes. Greens were in good condition and would hold a shot, seemed to be running fairly consistently, medium to medium fast speed. Sand was inconsistent, but ok. This is a course that can be difficult for someone who hasn't played it before because of the dog-legs you are not always sure where to hit it. As mentioned our tee time was 0903, and it took FIVE HOURS + to play the course. We (and the group in front of us) had to wait on every shot....at 9 in the morning----ridiculous. Saw the marshall once, and he was totally indifferent about the pace of play. I mentioned it after the round to the golf shop, and they too were totally indifferent "we are busy today". I understand that courses have to make $ and put groups out 7-8 minutes apart, fine....If they are going to do that make SURE the pace of play isn't over FIVE hours. This is killing the game. Decent track, and likely could have been an enjoyable round, but I won't be going back, and wouldn't suggest anyone does if you enjoy playing in under 5 hours.

Played the course back on Friday, March 15, during my Spring Training trip. Was looking for a reasonable green fee rate that wasn't too far from my hotel on I-17 in North Phoenix. Found that Pointe Golf Club was having a Spring Green Fee Special where if you booked at least one week in advance it was $72 for an AM tee time. Fantastic Deal for March in Phoenix. Saw that the course was managed by Troon Golf now so I expected a nice experience.

Drove around the neighborhood trying to find the course, a little difficult to find the first time. Once I was on 7th Street, where the course was located I pulled into the first driveway. Once I arrived I found that I had mistakenly pulled into the driving range, which was located about 1/2 mile from the pro shop and bag drop. After figuring out how to find the parking lot, which is shared with the Pointe Hilton Tapatilo Cliffs Resort, I proceeded to the pro shop. The pro shop staff was very friendly, quickly got me checked in and back to the starters area near the driving range.

My playing partner and I were paired with another twosome, who we quickly ditched as they were slowing us down tremendously. The first six holes were flat, resort golf. No water hazards, generous fairways, a few trees, and a little desert terrain surrounding some of the holes. These holes served as a nice warmup, but other than the views of the nearby mountains and some nice houses, I found them fairly uninteresting and unmemorable.

Once you get to hole #7, the course changes dramatically. The last 12 holes are played in and out of the mountain, with several elevation changes and a real "high desert" feel. #10 was a favorite of mine, with a 150 foot drop from the tee to the fairway. The back nine had several risk/reward which could be played several ways from tee to green.

Overall, I felt the course was a decent value considering how expensive green fees are in March in the Phoenix area. If you can play the course with a decent discount on the green fee, it's worth playing. At or close to the full rack rate, I'd probably look at other options.

Greens: Nice condition, rolled true
Fairways: Freshly cut, overseeded for winter months. A few bare spots in places.
Scenery: Front 9 (C), Back 9 (A)
Overall: B- Considering all the other choices within 25 minutes.

Course perfect condition on 5/9/2012,target golf, course play started to slow down because of groups ahead of us looking for ball in desert.keep ball in play and no problems, but hit a bad shot and you might not find your ball. recommend playing from back tee's to get full value of shots, playing up tee's you can drive into desert. will play again this year, go to phoenix twice a year to play 5 or 6 courses.

Played Monday, 5/7/12 2pm. This course offered some holes with lots of elevation changes. Made it more difficult during windy afternoon but had a very challenging yet enjoyable round. It's more of a "Champions Club" or "Lost Canyon" type of course. It's not in perfect Troon condition but still in very good condition all around. Would recommend.

Played April 12, almost exactly 13 months since my previous round here. This is my warm up course for my annual Scottdale area rota. This course has everything you expect in desert golf; firm fast fairways, and hard greens. My only complaint is that the greens were slow. Hard and slow is a bad combination for me to get the feel for the speed. Our group fell a little behind but the marshall was very tactful in asking us to pick it up; which we did without any problem, and we finished right on 4:15. I only mention it because to me it's a sign of good customer service, which was great all the way around. Fees are lower in the April "shoulder" season, and at $89 it makes this course a $$$ level.

Played on March 13; the course was in perfect shape. Stayed at the Hilton next to the course. They put your name on the cart, or at least the name on the reservation, so it was a nice personal touch, except being called by my wife's name was a little odd:-p. Staff was a little stand off-ish, and the starter a little crusty. A good course overall, nothing super memorable. There are a couple of holes that are adjacent to busy roads that are reachable with a double cross hook, but otherwise about half and half desert and some homes. Coming from swampy Northern CA I had to get used to landing everything short and rolling. Like most of the AZ desert courses, if you hit it outside the cut rough area, the desert is pretty much unplayable...so don't hit it there, ha! Traps were a little inconsistant...hard sometimes and fluffy sometimes. Played this as the first of a four course swing and it was a good warm-up to learn desert golf, but for the money there are better courses around. The cart girl was friendly and frequently available but stay away from the "Pointe In Thyme" restaurant after your round...it's bad expensive food.

The good: the round of golf included range balls, which are kept in Callaway mini-bags by the range, so you can hit as many as you want. Nice. Starter was friendly, as was the rest of the staff inside... Continue »

The bad: fairways and tee boxes were not as lush as advertised. Not awful, but definitely not as green and full as expected.

The ugly: There are a lot of desert carries on this course, and many are much longer than other courses. A high handicap golfer will get eaten alive here, between the large amounts of desert in play, the elevation changes and some severely sloping greens. A good course, but not for someone just starting out.

Played today 6/19. 110 degrees. Maintenance was hand watering the greens to keep the speed reasonable. Got a good online rate of $29+tax. Course was in good shape overall. While this course is no... Continue »

Played today 6/19. 110 degrees. Maintenance was hand watering the greens to keep the speed reasonable. Got a good online rate of $29+tax. Course was in good shape overall. While this course is not long, (6535yds), it has some tight driving holes with elevation changes. Some semi- blind looks off the blue tees. Use the GPS. It helped me on many holes. The fairways & rough were good. They have a few hot spots that they were aerating. Beyond the rough, desert with thick brush & rocks. Tough to find your ball in & difficult to play out of. ( I took a chunk out of the bottom of my pitching wedge hitting it out of the rocks. ) Bunkers had good granular sand. Shots flown into them didn't seem to bury. Greens were fast & have a lot of slope on them. If you short side yourself, or chip & putt from above the hole, you are in for a tough day. Stay below the hole as much as you can. Staff & service was great. Course is connected with the Hilton properties. I'd play it again.
