I have played this course three times in the last month and it is in great condition. There was a time when Wildfire would skimp on watering during the summer months but that time is long gone. The staff is usually great, the outside service is good, but the cart service is mediocre…at best (I had a 3 o’clock tee time and the beverage cart was on the green of number one telling me this was her last time around! So I had two play in 106 degree heat without cart service…and this is constantly the way it works at Wildfire) The greens are close to perfect, fairways are well manicured, great views, and plenty of wildlife. By far the best golf course on the SW PGA pass!

Arrived at the golf course after booking a huge discounted tee time ($90 total with a rack rate of over $200). When I arrived for my 9AM tee time on Friday, March 15th, I was surprised at the amount of security in place to get to the pro shop. I then figured out what was going on as the guy at the pro shop desk told me I would be playing the front nines of both the Faldo and Palmer courses as the back nines (and the practice area) were being used for the LPGA Founders Classic. I had no idea the event was going on until I arrived. On the course, it was fairly surreal to look over and see the LPGA pros playing with the galleries following them. Made for a fun time!

The course itself was immaculate. The fairways were as lush as any I have ever played. It is sad that I was in the rough and sand so much as I wanted the opportunity to hit off the fairways more. Every lie was literally perfect. I found the Faldo course more difficult than the Palmer 9. There were many, many more traps on the Faldo course. The Palmer front 9 was a little tighter, but had a lot less sand.

The greens were in great shape and rolled fairly quickly. The Faldo course had more undulations. I found the Palmer course much easier to putt.

All in all, I enjoyed the experience of playing the two front nines. If I were to return (and I would if the price is right) I would rather play the Palmer course as it seemed more suited to my high teens handicap game.

I played the Palmer course on 7/8/12 as the first part of 36 for the day. I enjoy the Palmer course much more than Faldo. The course was a little damp but in great shape. You definitely need to keep your ball in the grass and out of the dessert. Service was great as was the pace of play. We teed off at 8:09 as a foursome and finished right before 12:30. Wildfire does a great job of keeping the course in great condition in the summer.

I would give this course the highest rating possible except for one factor. "Real" desert surrounds every fairway and green. By real desert, I mean cactus, bushes, small trees and even tumble weed. That's fair, after all its a "desert course". The only problem is the dormant bermuda rough is so thin and fast that if you miss a fairway or green, even by just several feet, the rough won't hold the ball and it will end up in the desert, often not findable and if found often not playable. Don't know what can be done about that except overseed the rough too.

With that said, the layout is very challenging, interesting, and demanding. The greens, fairways and tee boxes are in excellent condition. The practice area is decent but the permissible teeing area was badly chewed up and roped off to prevent the use of turfed areas in good condition.

Certainly vacation worthy but not at the top green fee advertised. We played for $100 and considered it a good value.

Course check in was no problem until was getting a soft sell on a timeshare presentation from pro shop. I get it if I was a hotel guest but not when I'm running to make a tee time. Started 20 minutes late and was waiting on every hole until 8. Biggest shock: they have totally lost their fairways. Muddy,bare,brown and just a mess. Would totally stay away until this is resolved. Greens were average at best. Was reading past reviews and don't know what changed over the past few months but just a hot mess out there. Arnold Palmer would be appauled to call this a signature course at the moment. Took us little over 5hrs to finish round. For a resort course, very disappointed and hope they get the course back because the layout is challenging and makes you use some strategy.

Played on 6-17-11 Practice facility was top notch putting and chipping area as well as the practice sand was really good. Range distances were right on and balls in good shape. Course can be challenging (especially first time playing it) but, nothing to difficult. narrow landing areas on some holes and if you hit an off shot in the desert hard to find with the sloping off from fairways and all the desert vegitation but, not supposed to go there right? Anyway greens were hard and somewhat fast ball had a hard time leaving a mark no complaints tho. Pace of play was good although at the turn we did run into a foursome ahead of us that was supposed to go to the other course they got turned around but, no worries. The starter tries to set each group off at least a hole ahead which is nice instead of just throwing everyone out there. The cart GPS has a bunch of features and distances were correct so no need to use my laser. All in all a great course to play.

May 18, 107 degrees tied local record for hot, and it was hot...!!! The greens were punched a week prior, but were in good shape, running a bit slow, but not bumpy. The entire course was in very good condition considering the hot dry weather. Fairways were for the most part, in very good condition, there were a few areas that I think had burnt out, or the summer grasses hadn't grown in yet, but it wasn't a problem. We had a pretty good rate $70, incl cart/range/gps. The course is a Palmer design, and is a bit tighter than the Faldo course, but much more pleasurable to play (I'm not a fan of Faldo tracks), well placed tee shots make all greens accessable, however if you are on the "fringes" of the fairway you may have to go over a tree, or lay up. The par 5 with the split fairway is an interesting hole, as first time players on the course we weren't sure which way to go, however in hindsight, if you're going to play it as a 3 shot par 5, play the right fairway, while a cut 2nd shot can get you home in 2 from the left fairway, sand is in play from left fairway. Bunkers were well placed, and are fair if you go in them. All in all we enjoyed the course alot, and would play it again. The down side is no coolers on carts, so even if you buy beer/water you can't keep it cold. Be aware that the beer is $6 on the course.

Played Oct 19. Course was in very good shape for just being over seeded. Carts only till Christmas, because all the grass has been changed. No more bent grass greens, and the fairways have a new strain. Almost all the courses in Phx area have given up on bent grass, too hot in summer for it. Course is not too hard, but not all that outstanding, either. Still, its nice to score well once in awhile and not always get beat up.
