Played a wonderful round today with TeaGal. Otero/Anza. Also played Otero 9 the afternoon before. This is a beautiful course, challenging enough but not too hard. A perfect resort course with beautiful old brick as well as some pretty newer homes all in southwest style dotting some of the holes. Service is top notch. Everybody is so down to earth and friendly. Steve at pro shop was awesome. A true asset to Tubac. Exactly the type of person you want to see behind the desk at a pro shop. Greens on Otero are almost fully healed from aeration and on Anza were exceptional and extremely fast. Nearly not a divet, crazy considering that the resort was full on memorial day weekend and there’s not much else to do here but golf so that’s the main reason that people are here. So they had likely full tee sheets and the course barely even looks touched. Greens keeping crew does an amazing job here. Teeboxes lush and level. Sand absolutely perfect. Rough is low and manageable. Fairways were exceptional. Amazing how soft the greens were being so fast and having 100° temperatures out here on a daily basis. Really the whole course for that matter. Easy to take real nice divots everywhere. They really do a great job here and it is one of my favorite courses to play anywhere in the country.

First time back at golf in like over a year and a half (due to injury). Took a trip down to Tubac and this is one of my favorite places to stay and play. We are actually playing two 9-hole courses tomorrow, but wanted to get a little something in so we played just 9 holes -Otero. Pro shop Steve was fantastic when we wanted to book a tee time for later today and pro shop Angie was super nice when we checked in. We checked in and hit some range balls before starting out. At late in the afternoon when it’s super hot, we finished in a little over 90 minutes surrounded by twosomes in front and behind but we all kept the pace. The greens were great, starting to almost be healed from aeration. I played from the front tees (the greens) and all the tee boxes were in nice shape, no divots at all. All nice and flat. Sand was excellent. It was nice to be out again and this is a fantastic course, especially the Tim Cup holes! The hotel is amazing as well and everyone is super nice. Highly recommend staying here if you’re playing here!!

Played 6/3. This is a fantastic place to stay and play. Great rates, nice staff. Very very relaxing. It's about an hour south of Tucson and is a great little resort (Tin Cup filmed here). Rooms are all like mini houses (casitas and haciendas). Course is not overly difficult, but a ton of fun to play. Well manicured, some dry areas in the fairways and rough, but nothing unplayable. Traps decent and tee boxes flawless. Greens always seem to run about a 9, but smooth and consistent. Have been here 3 different times and always look forward to here as a highlight of the trip. It's interesting down here. You're in the Sonoran desert but topography is so much different than the Tucson area. There's really not much cactus and no palm trees. A lot of sagebrush and windswept oaks. Really feels like the wild southwest. Tubac is a "free range" town so there is a steer thats always there and a few horses on the course. the steer was walking around right in front of you between the course and the restaurant! the horses can be a bit of a problem as the cart girl was telling me they leave "deposits" on the course and the hoofs do a number on the greens. i saw one strong example, but otherwise greens were great. She said theyve called the owner about getting the, out of there. I can understand them being there would be a long term issue for the course but once and a while gives a great feel to the course in my opinion. Where else have you seen a few horses roaming your course?! There's a great restaurant on premises and some real good restaurants in the little town. You're only about a half hour from Mexico and just feels like a different world down in this sleepy artist town. Highly recommend staying a few days here to unwind.

Played this March. Played all 27 holes, that is the only way to play the original 18. The new nine is desert type that was mixed in with an original nine. The Rancho 9 is the one every one wants to play, the Tin Cup holes, so it is always busy. Flat with lots of trees, challenging. Makes it worth the trip. The other two 9's are not busy. Not as interesting.

Great courses. Played all three 9's. Like playing at a private club. Labor day week end.

Stayed and played at Tubac this past weekend. (4/18-19/2009) Was really a tale of two different days and two very different conditions. The first day, Saturday we teed off in the middle of the day and played 18, the Anza and Ranchero 9's. The play was excruciatingly slow! Took more than 5 hours to play 18 holes and it was a wait on every shot, every hole! This made for an unpleasant round. The Ranchero 9 was by far the more interesting of the two we played. Sunday morning we teed off early, 8:30 and played the Anza and Otero 9's in a little more than 2 hours. No wait at any time. This made for a far more pleasant round. Then we reported in and were told we could report to, and play the Ranchero 9 but would be "behind 2 groups". Took nearly 3 hours to play that 9 . . Aaaauuggghhhh! As far as course conditions are concerned, the greens have recently been sanded, and were inconsistant. The tee boxes were nice, and the fairways were nice. The sand in the bunkers was nearly rock hard in most places. I like the layout of the Ranchero 9 the best. It's an older 9 and the layout is a lot of fun. Course knowledge helped a bunch when playing it the 2nd day. I personally, found the Anza to the be least interesting of the three 9's at the resort. It appears to be the newer of the 9's, and winds through the desert instead of through, over and around the hills, river, and trees. If Tubac would employee a marshall to ensure play moved along at a brisk rate then I'm positive that their customers would be far more inclined to return to play again. The course is fun. The starter was great, and the pro shop personnel were great and the cart lady made frequent visits. There is a nice mixture of long (600Y plus) and short (120Y) holes to play, hills to climb, trees to avoid, and rivers/lakes to cross. If play were to move along at a 4-4.5 hour pace then it's a very enjoyable place to play.

Played this course for the 2nd time this weekend. I had played it previously in the summer. Huge difference. We played the Otero and Anza 9's this weekend (12/8) and I was very impressed. I had played the Otero previously but not the Anza. The Otero is pretty straightforward golf. There are a couple of dogleg holes, and water comes into play on two holes, but with any sort of placement at all, you take the dogleg and water out of play. I really liked the Anza 9 . . this appears to be the newest 9 added at Tubac. The design is quite different that the Otero or Ranchero 9's. There is more water, differently placed water, and the rough is quite different, more desert-like. The greens were in much better shape than when I played previously. The only problem was on #8 Otero where it appears as if someone had ridden their horse across the green so their were hoof prints across the middle of the green. The fairways were beautiful. Very lush and full. Since it had rained the night previously, and throughout the first 5-6 holes were were playing Saturday, it's sort of unfair of me to rate the sand traps since they were wet. Their placement was very good though. They could easily catch errant shots, but with well placed shots could be avoided without too much trouble. The customer service in the pro shop was top-notch! This is a course that I am looking forward to playing again . . soon!

They are in the midst of their overseeding, so the wet fairways and greens is understandable. However, that doesn't explain muddy bunkers or bare spots on some greens. Course knowledge is a must out here with several severe doglegs and deceptive fairway bunkering making club selection difficult if you haven't been out here before. The "Tin Cup" hole was almost unrecognizable...the magic of film.
