Played Oaks/ Lakes on 4/19/25. The Oaks was in such bad shape I thought I was getting pranked! Fairways were unmowed and the grasss was so thick and filled with weeds you could lose a ball in the fairway. The greens hadn't been mowed in days as there were white flowers sprouting up in random spots. Rock solid tee boxes, no sand in bunkers. We nearly left after the third hole, what a sh-t hole.
The Lakes was better and in the range of what you should expect.

Good thing we had a Golf Moose 2 for 1. I can't imagine paying full price for that course.

Went out and played 18 this afternoon (10/11). Played Canyon->Oaks. Canyons was in decent shape, Tee box on #8 is still under repair, but other than that it was in good condition. The greens on Oaks (#5 & #6) look like they had been vandalized. Not sure what happened. Greens were generally slow across the course. Not too many people out. Good afternoon for sure.

Played early this morning with my wife. We played the Lakes 9 and pace of play was good, but the fairways need some serious attention: there were gopher mounds EVERYWHERE. Tee boxes were ok, greens were decent. I wish they would make more of an effort, but it is still good for what it is...

Went out to play a quick 9 at 5pm. Played the lakes and was behind what appeared to be the two only other people on the course. Pace of play was decent. Greens are still showing signs of having been aerated. Tee boxes were ok, fairways ok, etc. Tee box on #1 is back open, so that is good. Overall the course is in decent shape. I wish they would step up their maintenance a bit (and that people would fix their divots), but its DEFINETLY worth the money.

Walked the Blues (6185/70.2/121) on the Lakes/Oaks combo in 4H, 15M with the SLO Co Golf Group. Very enjoyable guys to play with. Sunny, fairly calm and in the 60's made for pleasant golf weather. ... Continue »

Walked the Blues (6185/70.2/121) on the Lakes/Oaks combo in 4H, 15M with the SLO Co Golf Group. Very enjoyable guys to play with. Sunny, fairly calm and in the 60's made for pleasant golf weather. Course is kikuyu from tee to green. Mostly very playable but far from lush. Many par 4's on the Oaks 9 are iron shots off the tee, some middle and even short irons. Lakes 9 had several holes with huge trees framing the fairway where you had to thread the needle on your tee shot. Tees were thin with weeds popping up on them. Could use leveling and divot repair. Fairways winter thin that played firm, lots of roll with patches of dirt and clover. Rough winter thin, not very high but was penal because it was inconsistent. All were below average in playing condition. Traps had decent sand but were not well maintained. Okay to play out of. Greens putted medium speed and were receptive to full shots. Several on the Oaks 9 looked like they had some prior disease challenges. Greens were mediocre, but were the best part of the course. Quick efficient check-in. Was not told @ check-in or offered a cart but found out on the 16th hole that my riding playing partners paid the same rate I did? $49 on a Monday morning to walk is outrageous for the layout and condition of this course. Basic carts did not have GPS, no on course services. Ted Robinson, Sr. design that has three 9's. Shorter, tight, quirky tree lined layout. Many holes turn with shots over trees possible to shorten several holes. Now that I have seen all three 9's, Canyon and Lakes are okay from a design standpoint and okay to play from a fun standpoint. However, Oaks is a poorly designed 9 holes of golf, way too gimmicky and quirky. The playing conditions and layout were at best mediocre. I would only go back if I were definitely playing the Canyon and Lakes 9's @ a discounted rate.

Rode the Blues (6034/69.3/124) on the Canyon/Oaks combo in 3.5H on a GN Hot Deal. Overcast, fairly calm and in the 60's made for pleasant golfing weather. Ted Robinson, Sr. design. Shorter, tight, quirky tree lined layout. Many holes turn with shots over trees possible to shorten several holes. I hit as many irons off the tee as I ever have on a regulation 18 hole course. With this course right between Cypress Ridge and Monarch Dunes, it is hard to recommend with both those much better options within a few miles.

Played 7/21/2018 POP slow. Very slow. Had a foursome doing a two person scramble each. Problem was none could hit a ball over 120 yards. Drove up to a par 3 and they were 20 yards of tee. Wow that was their best shot? Never ever looked back. Dont quite get this place. Canyon nine was recently punched. They had a sign at the check in desk. So far good. I asked how they putt guy at desk said bumpy. They have three nines here. We asked if the other two were punched he sad yes but months ago and completely healed. We were told we were playing the Canyon/Lakes combo. One of my buddies asked if we could play the oaks he has played there about ten times and never had played it. Golf shop guy said sure go for it. So I decided to press my luck and asked to play the lakes and oaks avoiding the punched greens. Was told that was not possible. Oaks was deserted. Why not use the good nines and let the punched one heal?

Conditions. Tees poor. Really thin, extremely unlevel full of holes bumps dips etc.
Probably the worst I have ever seen. fairways hit and miss as far as grass coverage.
Rough the same. Wasn't in a bunker but they looked fine. Greens Canyon bumpy very slow. Oaks just slow. I do like the layout quite demanding on accuracy. Greens have lots of interesting slopes. Conditioning needs to improve from tee to green.

It was a mixed experience at Blacklake. On the one hand the deal was unbeatable. $24 for green fees, cart and 2 drink coupons. I don't know what the course normally gets, but it can't be near that. The course, on the other hand, is not in good shape. The tee boxes were the worst I've experienced in years. Crowned, diseased, plus severe hard pan. Some holes I needed a hammer to Tee up. Tee boxes were actually just tufts of badly maintained turf. Only slightly better were the fairways. Although cut level and giving the appearance of being green looking down range, it's really an illusion. Dandelions, clovers, hard pan, some turf, and who knows what else. I don't like to be unfair, but it's not good. My cart partner said the private owner wants to close the course and build more homes. Apparently there is resistance, understandably from the many homeowners whose houses line the fairways, so the strategy has been to let the course maintenance decline. I don't know if that's true but it certainly looked true. On the plus side, everyone there is super friendly and really appear to enjoy being a part of this course/club. They also advertise the first tee program and many kids were there practicing around the range. So, no sure how all parts and rumors add up, but something is up. The same cart partner said this used to be a premier course in the area. I hope it works out in favor of the people who really seem to love the place and are committed to it. However, I can't say I recommend playing here these days. But hey, the greens were decent, the pace was good, and the atmosphere nice. So for $24, and all that, you can overlook some stuff.

rough. Fairways real nice, not a lot of roll out. Tees were also very nice. Overall in great shape. The bad. Greens fees are too steep. Would not pay full price. Myself and another guy brought along our wives. The clubhouse guy would not give us an extra cart said they were out. 1 cart for 2 golfers only. Okay so we all took turns walking, I like to walk anyway. First set of carts died out about hole 6. Second set died out on next to last hole. Long walks between holes down country roads was pretty tired afterward. Our third in the group complained to GM there and he said come back in two months when we get the new carts.

Could have been handled better I think.
