Because we were coming up for the Open this week, we planned it so we could stop and play here once again. We were here recently and we are never disappointed in this course. Many refer to this course as "the poor mans Pasatiempo" but DeLaveaga can hold it's own against any course in CA. From the opening hole (Par 5) with the road on your left and a canyon on your right; the 3 par 3's on the front; the 561 # 10 with your second shot needing to carry a HUGE canyon (and OB on the right); to the wonderfully redesigned 18; this course will give you everything you are looking for in a round of golf. The fairways; greens; traps are all in great shape. You will see some areas in the fairways that are "browned" out but they do not come into play (most likely saving water). The greens today were lightning fast. These are old style greens with slopes on the edges and many ridges as well, so your putting game needs to be spot on. The Loustalot family still runs this city owned course and you will find not better customer service (IMO) anywhere you go. Everyone who works at this course is there for the customer and that just adds to the days golfing experience. When in the area, don't just play Pebble; Pasatiempo; etc. do your self a favor and play here. Those of you who play Los Verdes, this is how it should look and feel. If it did, we would never get a tee time there. Besides the look at feel of the course, you will never take 5/6 hours to play here. We started at Noon, we walked and we were done in 4 hours. We even had a marshal stop the group in front of us and suggest they let us play through. The course was not crowded but the marshal felt that this was a better way to manage the course and avert any delays. Now that was good customer service. The marshals on this course know there jobs and perform them 100%.

Played here on Tuesday Sept 11 after not playing here for 15 years. Actually played this course for over 20 years when I lived in the Bay Area and it was a Par 72. We wanted to see what they had done to the course, now that it is a Par 70. Well they made it better. The redesign is terrific. They took this course from great to wonderful. The way they changed this course and the improvements they added, make this course, in our opinion, one of the top ten public courses in America. It is now managed by the second generation of the Loustalot family (Tim) and the customer service is still fantastic, as one has come to expect who has ever played here. You are treated like family by the entire staff and I sincerely mean that. Wonderful park like setting (no homes,yeah) and the course is in absolute fantastic shape. Fairways, greens (running at 10, yes), sand (great). The improvements of this course have gone far and above what I was expecting. Anyone who loves golf, needs to put this course on their agenda. We give this course a twelve on a scale of ten for value; appearance; staff and overall golfing enjoyment. Oh and do yourself a favor, walk don't ride, you will not be disappointed and you will even add more enjoyment to your golfing experience at De Laveaga. If you miss this course, you have missed a real gem in your golfing experience. If you play it, it will be in your top ten for the rest of your life.

Played a $22 single super twilight on Wednesday July 27th after a long day at my new job, I needed some golf. This course is few miles away from Pastiempo and has some of the same type on scenery that that course has. My jaw dropped at how pretty this course is. Tall redwoods and some really tall gum trees line most of the fairways. Deer running around. The starter had me jump out on 7 because of a ladies league. It worked out and I was able to finish the front nine before dark. Great course with nice conditions. Some hills make for some tough shots over bushes and canyons. I loved the fairways here and was able to pick approach shots so clean. Greens rolled good and speed and line were true. I will be coming back to this gem for sure.

great course, it always sets up different each time you play it, keeping this moderately short course very interesting to play. This is where i learned how to shape iron shots, shot makers course that you can go low on if you're thinking your way around the golf course. Tree lined, short, elevation changes, narrow at times, yet beautiful. Course doesn't drain very well, always green though. It is nice when the greens are rolling like they should around 10.5. Favorite holes on the course would have to be 3, 7, 10, 15 and 18. Great all around course. I used to think Seascape was the poor mans pasatiempo, but this course is much more enjoyable.
