Solid round at great course. Conditions fine. Course has rare elevation changes for SF.
However...
Course will no longer exist in its current iteration. Both courses have been taken over by the Bandon Dunes group as of June 22. Complex will be closed for redo for about a year. Simple old school proshop/snack bar will turn in big deal destination place. Weddings. On site lodging. You get the picture: prices jacked up. My 3 year discount card no longer in play.

Played Pine Barrens in the AM. Took some lunch and played Rolling Oaks in the PM. Rain tomorrow so wanted to play while the weather was nice. Both courses have their own flavor and design. So it is really like playing two different courses. I have always been impressed with what Fazio did here when he designed these course. The fairways are so green and lined with majestic Oak trees with the moss hanging from them. Beautiful flowers and azalea bushes frame the course as well. On Pine Barrens you deal with elevation changes. On Rolling Oaks you deal with large bunkers with great white sand and large undulating greens. Tee boxes were great. Fairways in top shape. Bunkers were so playable it was hard to believe after what we experience in CA. Greens were chipping/putting great with speed. I could stay here all day at this place with all that is has to offer. I could come everyday and do something different with all this place has to offer. Truly a diamond in the rough and a place every golfer of every skill level would enjoy. I will come back here as many times as I can without fail.

Played yesterday. $49 special (great). Decided to start on the driving range. Moved to the 3 practice holes (3, 4 and a 5). Then did the short course (7 par 3's and 2 par 4's). I had never tried this before and it turned out to be a great warm up for 18. Rolling Oaks feels more like a course in FL. Large Oak trees with spanish moss, large bunkers, water and large undulating greens. Spectacular conditions all round. Great to get out with family members who I have not played with in many years and enjoy a Christmas Eve round. Again, great customer service as usual. Glad I have a few more days to play both courses again. Highly recommended when in Tampa or even Orlando (2 hours). I don't think any golfer, regardless of ability would not enjoy World Woods.

Played today. The Azalea bushes were in total bloom and the Oak trees with all that Spanish Moss, were just beautiful. Unless you were behind one? Hard to choose which course I prefer, but I would lean toward R O. I really love the greens on the course and the fairways always seem to give me longer drives? As I have said in my previous post, this to me is the finest 36 hole facility in Central FL. You won't find a huge clubhouse, just great golf but good food. And right around the corner, there are two private courses, Sugarmill Woods and Southern Woods, that are amenable to outside play. All phases of R O were in great shape. Hats off to the maintenance crews.

Played today. Rolling Oaks is completely different from its other course, Pine Barrens. Large Oak trees line the course and the fairways are wide/green (great to just let the driver loose). Tee boxes were great; fairways rolled and provided great lies all round; rough was thick and troublesome; bunkers were great to play out of. Greens were in top shape and chipped/putted just wonderful. World Woods is a first class golf destination, that does not charge inflated prices to play golf.

Ran out this am to most popular Tampa layout.

Pristine conditions. Greens superb. All green all around. Humidity typical July-Aug open oven.

Can't beat this layout along with sister course for challenge, elevation changes. Prices at rock bottom compared to prime winter season $32-$119. Will join membership card to get break in winter rates.

Hit Rolling Oaks on Sunday PM (5/15) after a morning round at Pine Barren's, this marked holes 37-54 in our 144 hole barrage of Central Florida this week. For a more descriptive analysis of the facilities and customer experience look at my PB post, but basically this place is pure golf, plain and simple.

Rolling Oaks was designed with Augusta National in mind and you can definetly see the tendencies throughout the course. Typically large open fairways, with elevated, mulit-tiered greens that require precise iron shots. Most tee boxes make you consider what club to hit and while you're never penalized for crushing a tee shot down the middle, you're often in better position if you are 30 yards back on with a better angle to the green. This course is all about the fun. Unless you're 80 yards sideways, you won't lose a ball here but you'll definitely be hitting from the trees.

The Green complexes are large and wildly undulating, give you lots of different options on how to play the shot. Want to play a bump and run from 80 yards out? No problem. Greens here aren't Augusta speed, but they are medium fast and very smooth and true. Tee boxes are flat and are tightly cut. Fairways were very firm and fast despite some light rain in the afternoon.

Final verdict? I love these courses and my marriage is probably better off that I live 3000 miles away and only play them once a year because if I lived within driving distance, I'd be here all the time.

Made it to the mecca- 1 hr N. of Palm Harbor/Tampa home for the Rustic Canyon of the Gulf.

Conditions excellent tee to green. $49 online summer rate. 1st off joining a 2some so POP not a problem. Hills, elevation changes, big, mounded greens. Course is supposed to mirror Augusta in topography. Much like a Northern Michigan course with tall pines. Great layout. Water on couple holes.

Lots of fun- word is, easier than Pine Barrens. No frills clubhouse, just golf in the middle of nowhere. Will be back with Premier Card.
