Should I? or nah..too expensive? Well, I splurged. $241 including cart and decent rental clubs. I enjoyed the course. Great layout. The higher you go the more the gorgeous ocean comes into view. From tees to greens everything was nice. I wouldn't say perfect but nice. The greens were true but hard to read the grain. I had a few putts that broke very hard at the hole baffling me greatly. Maybe it was the super moon in the sky pulling on the earth with slightly greater strength? The rental clubs were Callaway Mavericks. I over clubbed several times with those irons. There is that moon again.....They even had stiff shafts for a left-hander. The question is ...Is it worth it? No, not for me, but no regrets. I now have played on Maui. The Big Island is left. Mahalo

Conditions were really nice today.

Few brown spots on the fairways, but nothing bad. Tee boxes were level and lush.

Sand was somewhat hard packed, but nowhere near as bad as socal courses have been lately.

Greens were recently sanded, but did not impact roll badly. Lots of tiered greens, though.

Paid $99.00 and was well worth green fee. Views are amazing.

Only fault i can give this course is the limited flight range balls. Even then, range was good.

Will definitely play again at $99.00.

Played the Kai course yesturday and got off real late at 4 PM. We werent expecting to play much golf but wanted to get a few holes in before our trip ended. Amazingly we ended up finishing 17 holes before dark! The rack rate for this course is pretty overpriced but we got out for half so it was an Ok price. Looked like a good driving range and large practice putting green. The course was in average condition. It would be a great course if they put a little love and maintnece into it. The highlight of the course were the greens. They had a couple imperfections but for the most part were very good. Everything else was a 7 to a 5. The worst being the bunkers. Lots of them had weeds inside and some were muddy, others light, hard to judge them. All in all a fun course with a great layout that I highly recommend for the right price.

Played Kaanapali Kai Golf Course on Monday 7-15 teeing off a 6:30am (their first tee time). The following day I played the Kaanapali Royal Course also teeing off at 6:30am. Kaanapali Golf Course is a 36 hole facility located in the heart of the Kaanapali Beach Resort area which is a huge plus from a convenience standpoint in relationship to the hotels. On both days the pace of play was brisk finishing in under 4 hours. This was a big bonus for me since I was on a family vacation and did not want to be separated from them any longer then need be. We stayed at The Whaler which was a fabulous (I’ll be making a forum post about The Whaler soon – all I can say at this point is try to stay there!).

Regarding the Kai Course, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The layout is target minded with many elevations changes and beautiful views. It’s a par 70 that plays much longer than its yardage and I felt it was more difficult then the Royal Course. I joined three guys from Philly and we played the second tees from the back which was plenty of golf course for me at just over 6000 yards. The main challenge of the Kai Course is its tricky undulating greens, distance control due to wind/elevations changes and well protected green complexes. Check out the photos I posted.

As for the playing conditions, the course was in great shape. The greens were smooth, medium to fast, firm. They are pure bermunda grass which I’ve always had a hard time reading so Monday was no different. The grain of the bermunda grass certainly impacted putts and it appeared most greens break toward the island of Molokai. The fairways and rough were lush and well groomed. So lush that you got very little roll off the tee. The rough is very challenging in that its 2 to 4 inches deep and man does that bermunda grass grab your club. As far as the bunkers they were in excellent shape with good texture sand and debris free. Lastly the tee boxes were lush, level with very little divot damage..

As I mentioned I played both courses and I’m real happy I did. They are two very unique designs and well worth the time and money. Overall, when coming to Maui, I’m always going to plan on playing the Kaanapali courses…I was that impressed. Highly Recommend.
