Good all around layout in the middle of nowhere. Course is about 20 min from Carson City. Fairways, tee boxes, sand traps, and greens all in good shape. Greens were smooth and medium fast. Solid golf course with a lot of water to negotiate. Played the blue/white combo tees at 6257/69.3 with little wind and the course was medium challenging. 6637/71.4 blue tees looked like a stout challenge. Worth your time if you are in the area.

I have taken SEVERAL pictures of the surrounding course but ONLY (5) were uploaded & posted. So this time I tried to take pictures of each & every hole, WE'll see how many get uploaded & posted to the Dayton Valley Golf Club. Date: 9/19/2016 Time: 8AM four ball POP was just a tad over 4 hours Tee Box: WHITE Conditions: Course Preparing for upcoming 1st stage of Q-school comp. GREENS: Excellent and we KNEW the speed of the greens would be over 11 stimpmeter. Overall EXCELLENT, hardly any ball marks, we fixed the ones we saw that need fixing. Tough putting, tough to hold approach shots onto the green, BUNKERS/ (NOT TRAPS): I try to avoid any kind of bunkers, rather lay up then wedge approach shot. The three I found were slightly different consistency. I wish more courses would spend the time to do a complete rake of each bunker. Just having dirt composite is unappealing. FAIRWAY,ROUGH,TEE BOXES: I've lumped them altogether because the conditions were ideal, Couldn't find anything to point out. LAYOUT: Arnold Palmer Designed. Plenty of mounds throughout the course when you don't find the fairways! Playable, not penal ability to get back into play IF you stay away from the bunkers. It's defiantly challenging but higher handicaps can play this course too! PAR 3's weren't long but make sure your on the correct landing area to have a chance at par! Range & Drink tickets were available part of the rate. We did not use the range but decided to come back later "HAPPY HOUR" FOOD: EXCELLENT but not many choices, I ordered the Chicken wrap tortilla & their FAMOUS HOME FRIES!!!!!! Don't get just French Fries, ORDER the "HOME FRIES"......dang so good. The Clubhouse offers Happy hours & certain specials with group events. Plenty of parking, they allow carts in the parking lot. OVERALL I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COURSE! WILL look forward to play it again when I have the energy to do so... CF39

I've played a few rounds here since mid-April. Spring was late this year, so there were many nights with lows in the 30's which delayed the course growing in for the summer. But it has warmed up the last 10 days and I can see the improvement already.

Currently, greens are excellent. They are cut and rolled almost everyday. Usually running about 11, the fringes are all grass and the rough just outside the fringes is getting longer. If you play on a day that they are not cut, they are about a foot slower. Ask the starter.

Fairways are also pretty good. Lots of grass with a few bare spots here and there. If you play early in the morning, there are occasional wet spots since there is plenty of water this year to put on the course.

Rough still needs some work. Not very long and quite a few bare spots. Bunkers are likewise not great. Firm and stony. Tees are flat but could use more grass.

Amenities are the same as last year. Range is all grass and putting green is large and same speed as course greens. Cooler and ball washer on each cart. No water jugs on course and no GPS. Bring your own towels. Beverage cart service is regular and bar/restaurant are also good. New menu also an improvement. Everyone who works there is friendly and appreciative of your business.

Considering the late spring, course is well worth the $45 fee. Well worth the drive from Reno or Lake Tahoe to play here.

Six weeks left in good golfing weather in NoNV. Course is in its usual great condition for end of summer. Greens were recently sanded, but still roll very smoothly. Remnants of sanding will be gone in a few days. A little firmer than they have been and still running about 11.

Fairways are nice. Pretty tight lies but still allow divots. I recommend putting from even off the green if possible. Rough is still thick and wiry -- to be avoided. Bunkers are firm, but playable, but lots of stones because of the wind. Local rule allows stones to be moved in the bunkers.

Everything else remains the same. Excellent value at $40. Web.com first level qualifying here at the beginning of October, so greens will only be getting quicker and rough will only be getting thicker. Bring your ball retriever as water comes into play on at least half the holes. Still my favorite course to play.

It's been six weeks since my last review of this course. Greens are now about as good as they can get. Very smooth and on the firm side, but you can get a ball to check and can leave a small divot.

Fairways have grown in nicely. Rough is also completely grown in and getting on the thick side. Tees are flat and have plenty of grass. Tee markers are moved quite often to allow recovery from daily play, especially on the par 3's. Bunkers still have a lot of small stones and are on the firm side although I managed to plug a 7 iron shot in a greenside bunker.

All of the other comments about this course remain the same. Really a good deal at $40. You will enjoy your round and be challenged.

Every year for the past 22 years, a group of us have played in a tournament that has taken us around the world. Scottsdale to Scotland. Santa Barbara to Myrtle Beach. Dallas to Ireland. This year, we returned to Reno Nevada. Our first course this year was Dayton Valley Golf Club. it was a bit of a drive for us from Reno, a little bit over 1 hour to the south. Some people complained about the distance, but once we arrived, I do believe that all complaining stopped.

The staff when we arrived could not have been more gracious and helpful. There were 14 of us, so for some golf courses, this can be a little unwieldy. Not for these guys. We were given our range balls and directions to the range and treated like royalty. We were given some tips about how the greens break and the danger of water on the course, but you really can't describe the course in those terms. I think this course is PGA quality all the way! They advertise that they have been a PGA qualifying site since 1996. I can believe it!

The fairways were lush and bright green, people actually fill their divots here, and the rough was plenty long so that it was a place that you want to stay out of! The greens were firm, and they ran true whether uphill or downhill. Downhill putts were very fast, so you learned quickly to keep the ball below the hole. It's a bit of a targety golf course, and I would dearly love the chance to play it again, because you learn so much the first time out. Just taking out your driver and whacking away is not the way to score at Dayton!

After our rounds the food was great, the accommodations were wonderful both inside and outside of the clubhouse on the patio. If you are planning a tournament in the Reno area, I would really suggest that you contact them. It's a great destination for any golfer. There is plenty to love here!

Played 5/3/2015. 8:24 tee time. Temp around 60 at first, warming into the low 70's. Slight and variable wind. Green fee only $40 currently. Includes cart or you can walk. Generally flat for walkers, but some distance between tees. Spring has come early to the Dayton Valley. Temps have been generally 10°+ normal with highs in the 70's many days. Grass is growing in most places on the course. Greens are still the best feature. Very smooth, cut most days and rolled 2/3 times a week. Quite firm, but it is still in the 30's/40's at night so the greens are not in summer condition and rolling around 10 which is slow for this course. You will not complain about the greens -- still the best in NoNV. Fairways are a different story. A lot of bare spots for some reason, but lots of grass, too. In the two weeks I have been here, the fairways have improved significantly. So I expect very nice fairways by the beginning of June. Rough is much better with fewer bare spots. Rough is starting to grow out and will be brutal, as usual, as the summer gets here. Bunkers still have a lot of small stones, but are not as firm as they have been in the past. You can explode out of the bunkers with a little practice. Tees are fine. Additional background info: Course owned by Duncan Golf Management (DGM) which is a locally owned family operation. DGM also owns Wolf Run and Lakeridge in Reno. Nice membership program -- for less than $300 per month, you get unlimited play with cart and range balls at all three courses. GPS is gone. No water jugs on course. And bring your own towels. Parking is very convenient. Range is grass. Nice putting green. Barely adequate chipping area. But if you want to work on your swing or putting, Dayton is a great place to do so. Staff is friendly. Bar is well stocked. And sodas, ice tea and lemonade are only $1.50 with free refills. Best new feature: combined tees have come to Dayton. Blue yardage is 6600+ (71.4/129), which is too long if you hit it 225 off the tee. White yardage is about 5900 (67.9/115), which is too short if you hit it 225 off the tee. The course has been rerated by the NNGA for combined tees: 10 blue and 8 white -- yardage about 6200 (69.3/123). New scorecards should be here about June. Something I usually forget: this course is very lady friendly. Around 5100 from the Silvers (good tees for super seniors) and, I am told, quite challenging but fair. Lots of lady play at this course and a very active ladies group on Tuesday mornings. As always, highly recommended. Especially at $40 compared to $55-$65 for other DGM courses in Reno. And don't miss Senior Thursday at $25.

Played here 7/14 after getting a GolfNow (via Golflogix) $19 rate. Though this looks like a relatively new course, it's more than 20 years old. They lost a bunch of trees a couple years back and have had to replant. This is the first Arnold Palmer design course I have played. I can see his personality in the design . Layout is very challenging and is all about "target golf". Nothing quirky here as it is a good test of golf. Tee boxes are level and lush. Numerous tees available for every skill level. Fairways are lush but, numerous soggy areas due to over watering to combat the heat. This is to be expected everywhere during hot weather and not meant as a dig. Numerous fairway bunkers that are lees than optimal. They are filled basically with fluffed up dirt with lots of small rocks. Rough is 3"-5" inches and not overly tough to get out of. Green side bunkers are filled with the same fluffed up dirt and crusty. From what I'm told, they do not use sand due to the daily high winds the blow through the valley...this was more of an anecdotal comment I heard a couple times from locals. Greens are amazing! Smooooooth, quick and true rolling. Gas carts here. This strikes me as a bit strange since this course is relatively flat. Would love to walk this in the cooler months.

I think this is one of the best courses in Northern Nevada. While Edgewood and a couple of the private courses that I have not played may get better props, Dayton Valley at $45 is a steal. At an hour from Reno and a half hour from Carson City, it is not right next door, but how many other PGA qualifying courses can you play for under $50?

My review from September, 2013 contains course detail. Since then, DV has new carts with GPS which is quite accurate. Cart service is good on the weekends, a little spotty during the week. Ice coolers and ice available, but no water jugs on on the course. Has a real bar with plenty of options and lots of seating. Carts allowed in parking lot, so no unnecessary bag carrying. Food is so/so.

Greens are wonderful. DV now owns a roller so the greens are always smooth. Not ungodly quick -- probably around 11 stimp.

A few bare spots in the fairway and rough, but nothing that makes any hole unplayable. Rough is 3"+ which is a little longer than usual for July. Water comes into play on 10 holes and there are plenty of bunkers. Unless you are lower than a 10 handicap, play the whites and have more fun. The course is quite challenging and no two holes look the same. Arnold Palmer design and Arnie did a good job.

I play DV a lot and it is a great course at a great price. And it is easy to get a tee time.
Great driving range (grass) and nice practice putting green that runs the same speed as the course greens.

Nothing foo-foo here -- just a real golf course.
