Played this course about a month ago and forgot to review it. At the time the course was in good shape with many workers on many holes making it even nicer. It is a very interesting layout, and I enjoyed playing it. I think they run a M-T 2PM twilight rate of $39. The front nine is pretty flat and runs thru the homes, but a bunch of the holes are very well designed, including a Biarritz type par three that looks like nothing from the tee but has a good-sized swale in the middle.
The back nine plays up into the craggily hills with some tough holes that play up and alongside the hills(mountains?) The driving range uses buried 50's Cadillac's as yardage markers and there is a lot of other kitsch around the course, including a Bob's Big Boy statue between the nines. A scenic layout and a good challenge. Not far from South Lake Tahoe and worth checking out.

Check in is pretty painless. Finally qualify for the senior discount!

Bunkers and traps are awful here. There is no attempt to maintain as there is no sand.
I think the high winds through the valley prevent most courses in the area from putting quality sand in their bunkers and traps. It literally blows away.
Greens are really good for the most part. However, some greens are sneaky slow so, some speed inconsistency is an issue.
The clubhouse is very nice aesthetically. Without a restaurant, it's good for little more that having a beer or other adult beverage and watching whatever sport is on the tube.

Pace of play...poor, poor, poor. A 5-5.5 hour round not uncommon here. Sadly, no one in the clubhouse mentions anything about keeping up with the group ahead and no one here to push slow players on the course.

This area has suffered the worst weather in 10 years at least according to the long term locals.

That being said the conditions are better than anticipated.. Tee boxes are level. Fairways are good. Bunkers are descent and the greens are pretty quick. There are some patches of what may be a fungus on the greens but, you can put through it with out trouble. Played a full round in less than 4 hours.

The driving range is closed till they can get all the standing water off of it and repair the storm damage.

Course conditions much improved since last summer. Rain this past winter has really greened up the course.

Greens are smooth, quicker but pretty firm. Fringes are brown in places. Fairways and rough also have a lot of grass. Excellent lies in the fairway and rough not too penal. Bunkers are better than they have been with nice sand, but a little firm.

Amenities are minimal -- it's a muni. Grass on range is sporadic. Range balls are hard -- bet they last a long time. Ice chest on gas carts. Bring your own GPS, towel and water.

We paid a $35 tournament rate. Regular rate a little higher.

Layout is somewhat unusual with some serious elevation changes on the front side. Back side more traditional. Not many trees and adjoining houses are back far enough that they don't come into play. This is an OK course as long as you don't have unrealistic expectations.

This is a fun course. Not too hard but very different elevation changes and in good condition for a less expensive course People are friendly and welcome tourists. Would play it again.

Played 7/13/2015 at 8:30 shotgun. Temp in 70's with not much wind. Hey, it's a muni. Schlep your own bag. Bring your own towels and GPS. Range balls are extra -- mostly dirt to hit from. Small putting green. Bar and food are OK. People are friendly. Ice chests on carts. Don't pay more than $40. Greens were ok, a little bumpy and painfully slow (probably no more than 8). Fairways were good and rough was thick. Bunkers are so-so. Tees somewhat beat up. Need to move the tee markers. Beware that at least 7 holes have greens that have surfaces that you can't see on your approach shot. The yellow flags are for the golf course and the orange flags are for footgolf. Just OK for our traveling golf group a couple times a summer, but I wouldn't make a special trip down from Reno to play here.

Played here for the first time Saturday May 9th. Fun track with some interesting holes. What struck me was the lack of holes with green side bunkers. Probably a good thing since most bunkers here are in poor shape.
Tee boxes were mostly level, grass was thin but, needed a mow. Fairways were in pretty good shape mostly lush. Rough was in the 2"-4" range with a few bare spots. Greens were med/fast and fairly smooth.
I'll be playing here quite a bit when I finally move to the Carson Valley.

Played 6/2/2014 in a small tournament with a 8AM shotgun. Temp around 50° at start quickly warming to the 70's. Occasional winds from varying directions.

This is a typical muni course with typical muni course peripherals. Decent parking, OK pro shop, bar area roomy but not pretentious and the beer was cold and not overpriced.
Range was acceptable and there is a practice putting green, but no chipping area. Service was friendly and the drink cart came around regularly.

Greens are the best part of the course. Generally smooth, firm, predominately poa annua, medium slow (less than 10 stimp). Fairways and rough are also just OK with some bare spots. Bunkers were not good -- firm with little sand.

Course layout is somewhat unconventional -- especially on the front nine. Holes 2-7 are up in the side of the mountain with holes 3 and 5 playing severely uphill. Very few trees and lots of scrub brush if you get wide of the rough area.

If you are in the area and want a pleasant, non-challenging round of golf, Silver Oak is acceptable as long as the green fee does not exceed $50. Summertime in Carson City means the wind blows in the afternoon, usually 10-20 mph. And wind is this course's main defense.

Tournament green fee was $35 which is acceptable for this course.

Open type course, meaning no parallel fairways. Rough areas are sagebrush/desert. Staff was helpful and the course was fun to play. Overall I'd call it an average course. I'd play it again.
