Played yesterday afternoon. Very hot for such a high altitude. And very busy for such an early time in the year.

Course is a beautiful course winding through tall pine trees with nice elevation changes, wide fairways, lush and green already this time of year, large undulating greens and unbelievable tough rough.

Great mixture of 3's 4's and 5's. Especially the 8th hole a par 3 surrounded by water bunkers and an elevated tee box and virtually no area for bail out.

I was surprised the course was in such nice shape at this time of the year. Most mountain courses really come into full mode in July/Aug.

Never had a bad tee box. Fairways are wide but still soft so very little rollout. But they did give really nice lies all round.

But you do not want to be in the rough. The grass is about 1" high, and the ball sits down and it is just tough to power the ball out unless you have a really powerful swing and follow through.

Traps were all playable. In one and no issue getting out and heard no complaints from others.

Greens were very nice. They had good firmness to them, so they released well hit shots and of course sent your ball flying off the green if not. They had good speed at about 10, and you did not want to be above any hole. Chipped and putted just great.

Was charged $65 w cart which I thought was reasonable given it is a resort course. No doubt more expensive in July and Aug.

Very nice clubhouse with a well-stocked pro shop. Carts are gas but ran great. Did not eat in restaurant but it is big and looked very nice, especially the outside patio looking over the 1st and 18th greens. Driving range and practice areas very nice.

Have always wanted to play here when I lived in N CA previously and also to visit Lassen Volcanic National Park just up the road. Glad to take both off my list. Easy to get to by using
I 5N and route 36 E. About 3.5 H North of Sacramento depending upon traffic and how one drives.

Highly recommended.

Outstanding mountain golf course with half of it in perfect shape. They had small tine punched the front nine on Monday and closed it until Friday. I wanted to play the whole course and waited till Friday, unfortunately they dumped a Sahara of sand on the greens in the morning. Wasn't too bad (I even made a 15ft birdie putt) but short putts were tough. Rest of the front nine and all of the back nine were immaculate. Tee boxes, fairways, traps, rough and greens all 10's. Back nine greens were like glass and almost impossible after playing the sanded front ones. $49 web special was fantastic for this caliber of a golf course. Wish I lived closer. It is out of the way but well worth planning a trip around.

A little late with this review as I played on it 6/1. Actually played it 3 times as we stayed up there to play in a college alumni tournament. Beautiful weather up there each day. Also glad to see Keith (sixpez) another GK’er getting up here to play Bailey. He described it very well actually. Not many folks out here playing so pace of play wasn’t an issue as never waited. Really nice folks in the clubhouse and in the restaurant. The course had been open for about a month from the winter and the fairways are in pretty good shape. Some patchy areas filled with sand but not many and actually it looked like poa annua was growing in. Tee boxes are in good shape as well. The rough was about 2 inches high. Not real thick and playable. Bunkers have a red looking sand but were in good shape. A little damp but easy to get out of. Greens for the most part were in very nice condition. Two greens, #’s 8 and 13 got hit with a fungus and were still in repair but only half of the greens were impacted. The other halves were just fine and that’s where they put the pins. This is one of my favorite places to play for a lot of reasons. I always get to play it with some good friends which is one reason but the course is usually in great condition and has a beautiful setting. The course is carved into the mountains with many beautiful pine trees with generous fairways. I play it at least once a year and so look forward to it. Noticed the price tag has gone up - $80 rack rate. You can get a get a better price on Golf Moose or even the course website usually has a couple of tee times that are discounted but do give it a go if you’re up in the area.

This was the marquee round for Sunday. After seeing Larry's reviews throughout the years, I've been dying to play here. It did not disappoint. I don't remember the exact rate (weekend rack), but it is definitely a bit pricey like a lot of courses in this north-of-Tahoe region. We had an 8:50 tee time and were paired with another twosome. It was busy out there, but we still enjoyed a nice overall pace of just over 4 hours. The course conditions were great, other than it being very soft and wet (a recurring theme for this trip as every course up here waters soooooo much and there's also plenty of overnight moisture). Also, the greens are having some issues with invasive grasses coming in and making things a bit bumpy at times. From tee to green, the place is lush and beautiful throughout. Fairways soft as mentioned, with no roll-out. Rough thick and sometimes brutal. Bunkers terrific. The greens were as well-maintained as they could be, but there were certainly some bad patches here and there after a long winter and the poa invading. The layout is fun and the setting is beautiful with that awesome mountain feel. Just a great course that doesn't get the attention it deserves because it's in such an obscure location. Highly recommended if you are ever around this area!

Up once again this year to play in my college faculty/alumni tournament on 5/28. I love it up here and was so looking forward to playing. For the first time ever that I have seen this course in less than great condition. The course opened in mid-May which was much later than they usually open but the cold weather continued and delayed the opening. Talking with the course staff, even after opening they had some snow and ice which impacted the greens. The fairways though were great shape. Great lies if hitting from the fairway. The rough however was very thick. Ridiculously so. You could easily lose your ball just a few feet off of the fairway. They just haven’t been able to put a mower on the rough to cut it down. Bunkers and tee boxes were in great shape. The greens which are always in great shape, were beat up. The areas on the greens that were in good shape where slow. Again, they tell me lack of sunshine, cold weather has prevented the greens to mature. Aside from the thick rough and below average greens, it is still a great place to play. I am giving BC a mulligan as I know they will get things in order soon. The staff in the clubhouse and in the restaurant are great and always accommodating. This is not a difficult course with generous fairways and large greens so you can score well but it so much fun to play. It is definitely one of my favorites.

Continuing on our trip in No Calif and we have to make a stop at one of my favorite places to play. Beautiful setting on a very cool, autumn day in the Lake Almanor area. A bit breezy which made it colder and getting in the sunlight was a relief. Everything today was great. Fairways were in great shape. The rough was not thick and very playable. Bunkers are filled with good sand and although some were damp, no issues getting out of the sand. Greens were incredibly fast. I suppose the breezy, dry weather made them so but they were as fast as I have ever seen here. Putting downhill could end up rolling past the pin and off the green. To say I like play here would be an understatement. Generous fairways and always in great condition makes this an opportunity to score well. New carts this year but still gas carts?? Unusual. Wonderful folks in the clubhouse and restaurant and love the food here. I come here to play at least twice a year now and have never been disappointed. Know that they are about to close down for the winter as it gets pretty cold up here but again, if you are ever up here between April and October, make it a point to play.

Made it up to Bailey Creek for our annual Chico State Alumni tournament. Was so looking forward to it and was not disappointed. Played two days 5/29 & 5/30 with beautiful weather and playing with some very good friends. Not much to add from my previous reviews because it is in great condition every year. The course just opened from winter on April 19 and the fairways were in excellent shape. Tee boxes also in great shape. Bunkers in great shape. The rough was thick however. Very thick. On two holes you could not see your shoes if you were standing in the rough. That’s not good in my opinion but they are going to address it. The greens were rolling nicely and about a “10” but were very hard. Held a good shot but it had to be a very good shot. Had to adjust. A couple of the greens were still in recovery from the winter but that should clear up soon. Cannot say enough good things about this course. Spent two days of golf and I didn’t want it to end. Not a real difficult course but it is a beautiful setting and is never crowded. The guys in the clubhouse were all great as were the folks in the restaurant. Highly recommend!! If you are ever up in this area, you must make it a place to play.

Bailey Creek is a beautiful mountain course. Fairways and rough are excellent. Greens are very good. There is very little break to the greens, the speed is around 10 and some are a little bumpy. The rough is penal. Thick and the ball sits down. The bunkers area a little thin on sand. The fairways and rough extend quite far and it's easy to keep the ball on the course. Plays a little short from the blue tees (6500) and a little long from the black tees (7000). Elevation is around 4700 feet. Mi sh-t s and low shots get no advantage. The course is very very scenic. Overall, I love the golf course and will come back

I see I am the last to review this course but I played BC again on Tuesday 5/30 as part of a college reunion tournament. It is gorgeous up here. I really do not have anything to add from my last reviews. About 3 hour drive north east from Sacramento near the shores of Lake Almanor, the course is only open from about mid-April through October as they do get snow up here. The course is in great shape right now but I have never been here when it wasn’t. The lies in the fairways are just about perfect. Also, the fairways are very generous. The rough is thick but fair. You can still get a club on the ball. Sand traps were damp but not hard. The greens rolled very nicely. I wouldn’t call them fast (I have seen them much faster) but they rolled very well. A couple of greens were still in recovery from the winter but didn’t affect play. I really enjoy the layout and love playing here. All of the holes are cut through the pine tress. Mountain golf at its best. Then after having a beer with a good lunch or early dinner is a great way to finish off the day. Looking forward to my next visit up here.
