played early saturday morning. for whatever reason, it wasnt as busy as i thought a muni should be (compared to poplar, monarch, paradise). complete facility with food, proshop, large putting green, driving range, and chipping area. I appreciate how the marshall was patient with our jr golfer when we were a bit behind. they must have a feral pig problem as many parts of the course were dug up.
Pros - nice flat layout, easy to walk, colored pin placements and yardage markers. once in awhile you will see wild animals; squirrels, fox, hawks and deer.
Cons - expensive to walk on a weekend, the course does not drain well, the course stays very wet throughout the day.

if this course could solve their drainage problem it could be one of the best kept secrets in the bay area.

Had a 10:45 tee time on 5/7. Teed off right on time with another single and a twosome. They spaced the tee times decently, so it took us a couple holes to catch the group ahead. We had one very deliberate player in our group and I think the group ahead of us left after nine (or stopped for a long break at the turn) because by the back nine it was pretty wide open. Did my best to push my group along. Ultimately, it was just an OK 4:10 pace. $44 rate with cart.

The course was in good overall condition. Every time I've ever driven by here on the freeway, it always looks so lush and pure. It wasn't quite that nice up close and personal, but it was still in well above average "muni" shape. Some weak spots here and there, but mostly quite good from tee to green. Bunkers solid and greens pretty nice. Soft and rolling well at medium speeds.

This is a decent layout. Mostly what you see is what you get on the front nine, though there are quite a few water hazards in play. The back nine gets more interesting with some tighter angles and doglegs. Pretty traditional design to satisfy the masses. Prices can run a little high here because it is in the East Bay and I'm sure they draw a lot of after-work traffic when the 580 is backed up (which is always). A good walking course without many hills to contend with.

I've played this course several times with my dad. It's his home course, and for good reason. Green fees are a great value for what you get in this area. The course is in really good shape considering the amount of flooding they had a couple months ago. There was a couple really big storms that came through Northern California and flooded a good portion of the course. The greens keeper has done a great job getting the course back to where it ought to be. That said, there were a couple of spots where it was noticeably bare or run down because of the soggy ground or previously flooded areas, but those were really few and far between. Overall the course is in really good shape. They get a lot of foot traffic, as this course is definitely a locals track. You really get that vibe at the 19th hole. It definitely doubles as a local's sports bar of sorts. The restaurant/bar always has many patrons, and they probably have something like 25 TV's, and the wait staff and pro shop staff are both very friendly, helpful, and kind.

Las Positas is a great course if you haven't been playing much. It's foregiving and not all too long. You can stretch it out and make it more challenging if you play from the tips, which I didn't do this go around. We gave ourselves a break since neither my dad or I have been playing consistently, and it really makes the par 3s more manageable. The greens were in good shape, although we played in the afternoon so the usual bumps that come with a lot of play were there. Speed was good. Fairways were in good condition. I didn't bump a ball once due to wear or burnt out areas.

Don't let all the water fool you, it's more forgiving than it looks. Most all the water is to the side, so you're not really hitting over water much unless you played poor position.

I'd definitely recommend it if you're passing through, and if you're already in the area, I'd make it my home course in a heartbeat. All the locals my dad knows do! Good course!

After passing by this course many times on our family's trips to SoCal (via 580 to the 5), I decided to give this course a go this past weekend. This is a nice muni course situated right next to the Livermore/Pleasanton Airport.

Pro's:
· Customer service and really good value-the clubhouse staff is friendly and accommodating. I was immediately able to walk on at 07:00am on a Saturday ( can't beat $48 on a weekend)
· Layout-The course layout is very challenging. I played from the Blue tee's (slope rating 132) and it was tough. The Par 5's are long and are dog legs, especially on #18, and on most holes, there are lots of hazards and bunkers to navigate around.
· Greens-The greens were in amazing shape. There were a little soft, but playing at 7am you should expect that, but they rolled fast and relatively true.
· Fairways- What makes this course challenging is the trees and occasional bunkers that line the fairways. If your able to keep the ball in the fairway, or at least within reach, your good shape. The good amount of fairways, especially on front 9, that were in bad condition. There were some fairways, i.e. 5th hole fairway, that had a lot of sections marked off as "ground under repair". It almost felt like you had to negotiate around a mine field, but Livermore is part of the valley and some fairways are just victims valley heat and drought.

Con's:
· Unfortunately, the fairway conditions were a bit of a negative in my book. Over the last couple of months, I have played at golf courses in both Bay and Sacramento/Foothill areas, and have pleasantly surprised at how well these golf courses have responded to the drought conditions, except some of the fairways at this course. Although the fairways were bit of a negative, not a real game changer cause the course is still challenging.

Overall, really enjoyed the course and will definitely play this course again.

Tee's are some what beat up, some not level alot of divots. Fairways had alot of bare spots, rough was rough,about 3 to 4 inches. Greens were mostly good shape, a few bumps and bounces here and there. A few bad spots on some of the greens. After a long summer I'm sure that everything will fill in nicely.

Price is a little step for a monday morning, $52.00 with a cart. Not worth that kind of money for the conditions.
May play again if I find a deal and after we get some cooler weather.

I played this course on May 27, 2012 and was pleasantly surprised with the latest renovation to the entire course (executive and 18 holes). The place is starting to have a feel of a real golf course, it is shedding its image of instead of the run down muni course. I will be going back again as it is a good walking course. I must say, some of the new holes will make you use your course management skills. Plus the new sand also allows you to be more aggressive at striking your ball in the green-side bunkers. I will be playing here more often...

We got out early for a change and it was great. 6:00 start and we had the 3 holes open in front of us and no one behind. Managed a good pace (3 hours 35 mins). Greens were quick and pretty true. Fairway and rough was in good shape, and the overall course condition was above what Las Positas has been in the past. If you haven't been here in a year or two, you will be impressed. The pro shop still has some work to do on customer service. I have only once felt like I received good treatment from the staff there, and I don't quite understand their attitude. It is an average course in slightly above average condition and the staff should be much more friendly and accommodating in my opinion.

Once you hit the first tee, its all good...

This course is better than your typical muni. There are some interesting holes with just enough challenge to make it fun. In particular, the 5th hole has some real risk / reward. The entire hole bends around a lake on the right side, just daring you to cut it to the green. The Blue Monster Doral comes to mind, though I don't recall if it bends left or right. Anyway, I've heard big hitters go straight at the green from the tee box (350 yds from the blues) the water and carded a double bogey. That hole wins today. The course conditioning is average to good, but many tee boxes are a little uneven and spongy. There are many roped off areas right now, so you have to play lift, clean and replace on several holes. Still a very decent course. The 19th hole, Beeb's, is a true sports bar. Dozens of flat panels, good taps, food and servers. Among my favorite places to finish. The antique planes flying overhead from the adjacent airfield is cool too (If you're not easily distracted on the greens).
