Now that the Tour de France is over, I can get back to Golf! This course has been on and off my play list for some time now. Some people I talk to say it’s really worth playing and others say avoid at all cost. No one seemed to be in the middle… Except ME! Overall it was OK. Nothing that wowed me and nothing that horrified me.

I’ll start with the overall layout of the course. Deadpan flat. As in the wind chop waves in the bay had more elevation! That being said, it’s a super easy walk. It also provided numerous views of the SF bay and the City (San Francisco). That was cool and unexpected. For that I give it a thumbs up. Otherwise the layout was pretty boring. Just a parkland up and back type of routing. No real dog legs. 17 holes were pretty much dead straight. Fairways were generously wide on most holes. Wind can be the real factor here. Today it was average with about a 10-12 mph steady wind.

Conditions was sliding scale. Greens were fine. Rolled smooth at a medium pace with very few pitch marks. Greens were single tier with no real undulations. In fact, the hard part was reading them trying to decide if there was any break at all. Fine for a muni course and it helped the putting stats. From there the fairways were decent enough. Good coverage for the most part but definitely some thin and dead areas throughout the course. Again, well within the acceptable muni range. After that it declined significantly. Bunkers were pretty bad. Mainly hardpan dirt, or the occasional mud pit. Tee boxes were generally horrible. Very little grass, lots of uneven surfaces and hard to get a tee in the ground.

As far as the geese poop. There were only a couple of holes that had it off to the side. Not too bad. Nothing on the green. Pace of play was slow. Just under 5 hrs.

Would I recommend this course? Sure, if you are in the area (like sailed into the adjoining marina) or like I did today and just want to try a new course. Yes it’s worth it.

2 stars for being open during Covid and giving the locals the opportunity to play golf. Unfortunately this course is a poop hole! Literally it is! Golf and other animal poop ALL over the course. The 14th fairway is full of bird feathers on the entire apron of the fairway to the lake. Practically all areas of the course is damp and wet. Expect muddy conditions even in a dry & windy day. Your golf balls will plug after you tee off. It won't roll and will be filthy on every approach shot. Greens roll ok, a bit slow but will hold its line. Don't play any to little break. Pace of play was slow and no marshall on the course. 4.5hr round in the afternoon. I guess is normal for this course as the locals didn't care. Glad I got a chance to play here for bucket list but won't be back.

Sunday, 15Oct17, 10ish. Paid $64 to ride. Breakfast at the grill was an ok experience. The food was fine, nothing fancy, got what we expected. One person was the cook and cashier which was fine since we were the only ones there but, sorry to say, she was not happy but not rude. We tried to melt the ice but it was not to be. Oh well, not a big deal but we decided to eat elsewhere after the round.

Starter was fine and we had no other contact with the staff. Tee boxes were ratty but heck, it's a muni, so no real complaints. Overall, the fairways were ok most of the way with some bare spots, some muddy spots and some bumpy spots. Greens were good all around. Bunkers played decently.

It's been awhile since we last played here on Sundays because every time we did, it was a five plus hour round. Today, no exception. There was no marshal to keep players on pace. The younger players are decent enough golfers but they are acting as if they are pros. I would suggest to the management of this course to encourage "ready golf" as opposed to PGA style as seen on tv. Golf needs more young players to take it up but the golf courses' laissez-faire is making it undesirable to the long-time golfers. Most of us miss their fair share of fairways and greens but EVERYONE can be conscience of pace by speeding up the process between shots. Little things like being ready to hit on the tee, getting in your cart with your club and take off and replace your club in your bag when you stop, writing your score down while waiting at the next tee, getting off the green right away after everyone putts. Foursome in front was a perfect example. It took a minute or so for the first guy to tee off even though the preceding group was already approaching the green. The next two guys hit right after but the last guy was on his phone and held up the group for longer than it should have been. He was on his phone often throughout the round. They seemed to migrate down the fairway as a group often looking for balls for a long time. The five minute rule is too long if you are holding everyone up. I know, I know, it's Sunday golf but courses better wise up before it is too late. If they endorse ready golf and really detail it out, they can even allow fivesomes which would increase traffic. I know these courses are hurting but they are shooting themselves in the foot.

Maintenance is really good and the course condition keeps getting better. Great rate and lots of challenging holes. well worth it.

Played on March 16, Wednesday. Recent rains has course green again with firm fairways and little if any muddy patches. I would say tee box conditions were fair, fairways not bad, rough long enough to hinder finding wayward balls and greens rolling fairly nice as normal. Warning: foxes are getting clever. The previous visit there, the foxes were like dogs coming up to you and begging for food. This time on the 11th tee box, I pulled up to the side of the tee box and just a couple of seconds after leaving the cart I heard something falling. A fox was hiding in a bush waiting for us to leave the cart. All the takeout food there is packed in a large rectangular white box that fits nicely in the cart compartment. The fox snatched the box immediately but it fell to the ground spilling my half eaten hamburger and fries. We were three steps away from the fox but it was undaunted and promptly grabbed my burger and sauntered over to the other side of the cart path and thoroughly enjoyed my Monarch burger! We teed off and got back in the cart and as we left I glanced back at the fox helping himself to the spilt fries. I guess now the foxes are figuring out how to not only steal the golfers' lunch but after seeing a couple of Canadian goose carcasses, they are feasting on them as well. Golf was fine. Deal was $40 for golf and cart with breakfast and lunch and two beverages.

Will someone else please review this course! I come up to San Francisco with the wife for a birthday party on Saturday and played this course on Friday the 18th. Walked up at 6:00 and saw out by 6:30 (first out). Had a good time as always. This is a must play if you are in the area. $38.00 for golf including cart, plus breakfast and lunch plus two drinks. It is so worth it!

First time I have played this course on the weekend (Sunday 3/15). Greens were slower then I remember but rolled true. Lot of good deals Monday to Friday and ok on the weekends. This is a links course and lot of fun to play, but you must play the right tees and you can't miss the fairways. If you do miss you may never find your ball, that's how long the grass is! Play it, you will love it.

25Jan15-Sunday-10:48am teetime. Great deal:$55 includes green fee, breakfast, lunch, two beers. Also included 5.5 hour round with front nine taking 3 hours. Good thing it was a nice day. Tee boxes were chewed up, fairways fair with some bare patches, greens were good. Even though conditions were rough, it was a good deal for weekend golf, just need to take in account that we're playing golf so it's all good. Drought may be taking its toll on the grass so with that in mind, a lot of Bay Area courses are experiencing the same problems. We still had a good time.

Played November 28 2014, black Friday. Tee to green, course is in decent/good shape, earlier-in-the-week rains notwithstanding. 90 degrees for buggies, no cartpath only, which was a pleasant surprise. Greens medium speed but tracked well with modest breaks. Greens have many pock marks due to lazy or indifferent golfers. POP was slow it being a holiday but we had a late tee time and we almost didn't finish due to 5 hour round. No marshall in sight so there was a lot of waiting at the boxes. At least the resident fox was looking a lot better. He must be getting a lot of human food either by begging or stealing because we saw him try to catch a mud hen and he was, well, not very sly. There was a migration across one of the fairways of about 100 hens and he could not get close to any of them. To summarize, good course, decent conditions, nice wildlife sanctuary setting but slow POP. One last thing. We made our tee time over the phone and the staff member quoted their weekday promo to us saying we had to pay the weekend rate but we would still score the free meal and range balls. That wasn't the case so we had to pay the weekend rate sans the meal and range balls. We actually went there early to grab a pre-round bite since it was free but had to pay. The poor guy at the desk had to take some grief from us and others as he told us even though there was confusion amongst the staff the manager would not acquiesce by buffering the bad will by tossing us a bone. We asked to see the manager who was brusk and indifferent when asked about the misquote. In fact, this was the second incident with my friends who earlier in the month received an email quoting a meal deal that would last all month. A subsequent email was sent to say the deal started the following week and even though the tee time was made before the correction was sent out, they were denied and rebuffed. The manager gave us some range balls but just wanted us to get the hell out of his hair. We weren't rude or even angry but in fact very courteous and proper but he showed us no remorse for their bungling of the promotion nor any reason to feel like we were wanted as repeat players.
