Played here this morning. I had the 7:22 tee time, but that was unnecessary as this place didn't have an early crowd today. There was some rain overnight and fog rolled in as I waited for them to open the pro shop, so the couple other guys that showed up thinking about playing ended up leaving. I basically had the place to myself, teeing off around 7:15 and finishing in a little over 2 hours. $47 rate with cart.

The course was in decent shape. It is kind of late in the season out here, so I wouldn't expect anything too pristine. Tee boxes were fine. Fairways were patchy in places and had plenty of mushy/muddy spots, as well. Mostly decent enough lies, though. Rough had pretty good coverage where it mattered. The bunkers had good sand and I passed the maintenance guy dragging and hand-raking each one, so it's clear they keep them up nicely here. The greens were punched not too long ago, so they were sandy, bumpy and slow. From what I could tell, it looks like they're probably normally in nice shape and should be back to normal in a few more weeks.

This is a fun, challenging layout in a beautiful setting. At times, reminded me somewhat of La Purisima or maybe Diablo Grande. Rolling hills, secluded feel, excellent scenery, wild turkeys roaming around, etc. Not a flat lie on the course as you are hitting uphill or downhill (more up than down, though) at all times. Lots of side slopes on fairways, as well, so you really have to pick your spots to avoid rolling into trouble. Definitely a little rough around the edges at this time of year, but an enjoyable overall experience. Very friendly staff, as well. Worth checking out if in the area.

Best part of the course was the greens hardly a blemish on them rolling very true with fast speed. The rest of the course is not in that good of shape. Tee boxes mostly level and a little thin. Fairways are a little dried out with a lot of bare spots. Rough is very thin with a lot of bare spots. Went in one bunker which had thin sand with a lot of small rocks in it. Overall I did enjoy playing this course, and if you are in the area I would give it a try.

Played Sat 1/19/13 on an absolutely perfect windless day. Course was in good shape considering how cold it has been recently and the greens were just about perfect.

Played Sat 1/19/13 on an absolutely perfect windless day. Course was in good shape considering how cold it has been recently and the greens were just about perfect.

Every non par-3 has at least some elevation change and the majority have severe elevation change and blind shots and local course knowledge is a must. There are a couple holes that are borderline cheesy i.e. faiways that are so severely sloped that a drive can roll backwards 30 yards if you don't hit to the top. They give you a yardage book which is really cool except that it is the worst yardage book I have ever seen with little to no detail about where to play on some of the blind shots. When the wind is down it's a course you can really score on if you are able to hit the ball straight. I would imagine when the wind is really blowing this course would be just about impossible to score on. I would definitely recommend playing here with somebody who knows the course if it's your first time here.

Pro shop guy was super nice but the marshall was grumpy and didn't even acknowledge when I said hi to him driving up the first fairway. Pace of play was ridiculously slow but this grumpy marshall did nothing and wouldn't even tell us what was going on to make it so slow. Apparently there was a small tournament a few groups ahead where a bunch of 30 handicaps throught they were tour pros.

I thought it was a fairly priced course at $45 with cart but I probably won't play here in the summer when they raise the rates to $55 especially when Greenhorn is 1/2 hour away. This course is on Golfnow though so I'm sure you will be able to find some decent deals occasionally.

All in all I'd say if you are in Sonora and want to play golf it's a great option but I definitely wouldn't make a special trip to play here as it's an hour + from Merced, Modesto, or Stockton.

Coupon made it a great price but it would have been nice for desk to tell us greens had just been aerated, were bumpier than I remember. We completed round in 3 1/2 hours as a 2some, but got a warning from water cart guy/marshall for slow play on back nine although we were always walking off green when group behind us drove up into fairway to hit. Maybe it was the blind shots and lack of familarity of the course...we picked it up and ran promptly into group of 5 ahead of us, talk about slow play. Greens will be fast again soon when they heal, just would have saved the trip for another time if I had been made aware.

Played at around 12:15 and was done in about four hours, despite the fact it was fairly crowded. Changes made to a couple of tee box positions changed one par 4 to a 5, and one par 5 to a 4. Didn't make much of a difference anyway. Greens tricky as always with the subtle breaks and changes in speed. As usual, a joy to play, will definitely be back.

Nice course. But....needs work. Too many blind shots. Looks like the designer got tired of moving dirt and just planted holes to finish. 9 and 18 (both par fives) need flattening out. There are some fun holes though. Number 10 with the elevation change is fun and also number 17 with the carry over water is a great hole. Service is great. If they would only tweak the course a little it would be so much better.
