Time for an update for Bay View. Played yesterday afternoon behind a tournament which made things slow but not too bad. Conditions remain consistent at Bay View with everything being in the acceptable range. Greens rolled very smooth and held approach shots well. They seemed to roll a bit faster than normal as they can be on the slow side here. Whereas most putts rolled at a medium pace, uphill putts were really slow.

Fairways were a little thin but certainly playable and provided a reliable hitting surface. Bunkers and tee boxes were both ok. Again, nothing spectacular but definitely in the acceptable range. Golf carts have GPS and customer service is always great here. The remodel on the restaurant and pro shop is complete so gone are the portable toilets in the parking lot and temp pro shop set up. Everything is back to normal. They are still working on the range. Range is open as they are working on the landing area not the hitting end of the range. However I think the range is closed a couple hours a day during construction but I’m not sure.

Usually i can find a nice window for a fast POP but today it was at 4 hrs which wasn’t too bad considering we were behind a tournament. Given the conditions, cost to play and (usually) fast POP, this has become my go to course in the South/East Bay Area.

I played here yesterday and a couple weeks ago. Course is in almost identical condition as my last review. About the only thing I’d say was different was that the greens rolled a bit slower (medium) pace and the traps weren’t in as good of shape. Still a fun and challenging course that can reward you with some good birdie chances as well as put up a triple on the scorecard.

Being a weekend, yesterday’s round was about 4.5 hours which is still better than the mid week 5+ hour round at nearby Callippe Preserve.

Played on 1/30 before the mass rains hit NorCal. Course was CPO from prior rain. Due to the severe slopes of the fairways I can totally understand why they don’t want carts out on the wet grass. Having said that, I was impressed with the overall conditions of the fairways. Good lush coverage throughout with most fairways being dry or at least mostly dry. There were a few wet/ soggy areas here and there throughout the course but nothing too bad.

Greens were probably in the best shape I’ve ever seen them. They rolled smooth at a medium to medium-fast pace. Tee boxes had decent coverage for the most part with only one par 3 box being heavily riddled with divots.

I avoided traps all day so I can’t comment on the bunkers.

Bay View is a unique and challenging layout that has some nice views of the bay (hence the name) with a reasonable price.

Tee boxes were the week link of the course. Some were thin and the par 3’s were heavily riddled with divots. Finally had a decent POP finishing in 2.5 hours. Fun layout when you’re in the area

Conditions are starting to slip a bit. The greens on the Front nine rolled fairly slow. The back nine was much improved, rolling at a medium fast pace. There were 2-3 greens that had sanded areas where they had done some maintenance work.

Fairways are starting to brown up here and there with more and more thin areas developing

Rest of the course is the same. POP was slow due to an older couple holding things up a few groups ahead. Often we had 3 groups on a tee box waiting for them

It’s hard to get mad at the Elderly but frustrating when there’s only 6 groups
On the entire course and 4 of us were all stacked up behind them. Course layout is still fun and unique with a good mixture of target golf and scoring holes

I’ve played here a few times now and the place is starting to grow on me. Conditions remain just ok. Nothing that is going to wow you but not a dog track by any means. The layout is unique and challenging with plenty of scoring holes mixed in with survive and move on. Having said that, it’s all about accuracy here at Bay View. Color between the lines and you are rewarded with a manageable approach shot that generally isn’t too difficult. Everting here is about being in the correct position off the tee. After that, the greens are fairly accessible.

Greens are moderate in size with modest slope with a few being double tiered. Today they rolled on the slower side. Somewhere in the medium-slow zone. the last few times they rolled faster at a medium + speed. I played in the afternoon today so pace was slow (as it was a few weeks ago on the weekend) and the greens got a little bumpy towards the end of the day. There were also plenty of un-repaired pitch marks on the greens.

Fairways were average. Pretty decent coverage throughout with a few thin areas.

Tee boxes were a bit chewed up and some had some were unlevel. The tee boxes were the definite weak link on the course.

Take the afternoon bumpy greens out of the equation along with the holiday weekend slow play and you have a winning course that gets my recommendation.

Checked off another new course in the area. Played Bay View this morning with a7AM tee time to beat the heat. A buddy from San Jose joined me an it was his fist time playing as well. Check in was great as the gentleman in the pro shop was awesome. Super friendly and helpful. I grabbed a small bucket of balls (extra) and hit the range. This might have been the strangest part of the entire set up. Range is off of mats, which is no big deal. It’s irons only (not a problem for a warm up) and is super narrow (odd but ok) with a large lake running down the left side of the narrow landing area. The must teach scuba diving at in the afternoon to retrieve all the balls.

On to the layout. The entire course is on a hillside similar Callipe Preserve and Spring Valley. The difference with Bay View is that most holes traverse the hillside horizontally so the fairway has some serious slope making your landing area tiny. I will say that I didn’t lose a ball all day so it is possible to navigate around the course. The layout has a good variety of holes with less than driver off the tee and dog legs left/right. There are also a few water hazards on the course. If you told me the same person designed both Bay Hill and Callipe Preserve, I wouldn’t be surprised.

As far as conditions go, it wasn’t too bad. Greens were very nice. They rolled smooth at a medium pace initially then sped up as the sun warmed things up. Greens have some tuff slope to them but they are predictable.

Fairways were decent for the most part. Overall they had good coverage but there were a number of thin and dead areas throughout the course. Rough was consistent throughout. Only about 1’ tall and not very penal.

Most tee boxes were level, though a couple had a bit of unevenness to them. Sand traps had good quality sand in them.

Conditions weren’t as nice as Callipe Preserve but they were good enough for the $50 w/ cart early bird special. They also do a senior special (Tue, Wed, Thur) prime time for $55 with range balls and a drink.

I’m pretty sure I’ll play here again.

Now known as BayView, it is a work in progress. They are definitely putting time, work and money into this layout. I never played it when it was Summitpointe, so nothing to compare it to. It is a quirky, hilly, shot makers layout. I was in the fairway most of the day and never had a bad lie. But I can see the course still needs time to grow in fully. One of the nines was closed for a while, but I couldn't tell you by playing which one it was. Greens are smallish, sloped and super fast. Seemed to be small hole punched recently, but wasn't really noticeable on putts. Don't be above the hole. I got a $22W/cart Golf Now deal. So well worth it. I will be very interested to see this course in the late spring.
