I took the GF out for her first round of golf Sunday at Alondra's par 3 course (fee of $17 W/E, cash only). It's 18 holes, flat and walkable, just somewhat tight so with all the newbies you really need to keep your eyes out for stray balls coming at you ... trees provide shade and some protection. The distances range from 100 to 175 yds and most have elevated greens (since the soil is mostly adobe, just like the big course). Greens are small but very good Poa ... semi-quick, too. Areas around the greens would be rated poor by most standards, patchy Kikuyu and various weeds to maneuver. Tee boxes are a mess with old mats but some patches of grass can be found to play from, if desired. Traffic noise near the perimeters. Nice to walk on and kick the rock around ... that's about it.

Greens in pretty good shape. Rolled true with slower speeds. Had to really hit the ball square to keep it on line longer. Fairways had some bald spots and thin lies but overall decent shape. Rough still mix of short and thick grasses. Bunkers did not hit in one today so cannot say. Tee boxes in decent shape.

Overall pace of play was brisk. Slowed down when we made turn. We were a twosome following a fivesome. They tried to keep up with the group ahead just no luck in that department.

But at 4 hours on the dot for a round of golf it was decent. Play here again? yes only because it's convenient for me; literally being around the corner from the casa de Ringworld.

Have not played here since January 2012, mostly because of geography. While this has never been a course I was crazy about, ever since they re-worked the front nine, I enjoy the golf a lot more.

Ringword's review is spot on. The course is actually in some of the better condition I can remember it being in. I thought the greens rolled very true, but they were a bit to slow for my taste. Fairways had lots of grass. Some of the fringe areas had some issues, but nothing serious. Using the senior discount card makes playing the LA County courses well worth the extra drive now.

Greens in decent shape. A little bumpy, but better than what I played in quite a while. Fairways have decent coverage. Rough is a mix of short, thin and thick grass. Bunkers are stocked with sand a little hard packed. Actually I would characterize the sand in the bunkers more like gritty dirt.

Tee boxes for the most part are flatish.

Pace of play was a brisk under 4 hours. Could have been faster if not paired with a newbie twosome. Not a problem though as pace of play was not a problem.

Played Alondra park for the first time in a long time. Usually I only come here for practice but today I was playing in the LA County 4-ball. They do have one of the best short game areas on the coast. The putting greens are huge and usually rolling well. They have a deep practice green and a really deep bunker. You can hit 20 yrd shots all for $0. The layout is OK, a few holes I am not fond of the layout. 17 with the palm trees in the landing area and 18 with the bunch of eucalyptus right in line with the middle of the fairway. We were out right on time 7:48 with 10 minute intervals and we only waited on 1 shot all day. Finished the round in 4:45. The tee boxes show good coverage but a bit uneven. Fairways were dry but had good coverage with kakuya so the ball sat up nicely. The rough was very short except for around the greens. The greens were as nice as I have ever seen them. They were full and rolled true everywhere. The pins were placed in challenging places. The fringe gave me fits as the speed was hard to read and difficult to get right. They were full and grainy with the ball sitting down a bit and they grabbed the ball. The greens had full coverage and true roll but were on the slow side. It bothers me that the course was in such nice shape but this was an anomaly. If the course were in this shape all the time it would be in my regular rotation.

Greens were surprisingly good shape. They rolled relatively true. Fairways had decent coverage. Rough was a mix of thick grass and hard-pan.
Tee boxes were relatively flat.
Sand in bunkers was mix of a thin layer of sand (hole 9) around the green and decent sand fill (hole 1 and 2).

Pace of play was brisk. Followed a foursome that we rarely saw. Had decent spacing with threesome behind us. Group ahead bailed after 9 so it was fast going on the back 9.

Overall conditions are decent. It's golf. Their conditions are not what you would expect from a TPC course but conditions are playable and enjoyable.

Staff was kind to post a notice on the pro shop window and alert me before I paid a green fee."

A few light sprinkles playing Alondra today from the blue tees ($38.50 walking rate + $5 push cart fee). Wasn't going to pay for a premium course only to get dumped on, so it was a good, close-by choice. Alondra is in pretty poor shape right now, but you know that going in. There are large areas on and off the fairways that look like they had a tractor pull contest. Some of the greens had what looked like crop circles from a 747 on them. But again, this should not surprise people. Lots of yellow on the fairways and you can get some pretty hardpan or muddy lies. Rough was generally good though - often preferable to the fairway. Tee boxes besides 18 were fine. Sand was better than expected - passed the test surprisingly. The greens? Bumpy, slow, but not the worst I've ever played. You can adjust quickly. POP was a disaster at 5 and a half hours. Had a threesome in front of us that waited far too long in the middle of the fairways for the group ahead to clear (they had no chance of reaching them), and one time the guy was talking on his phone before hitting with a clear green ahead ... maddening. Pretty good day scoring though (which was badly needed) so I may be a bit softer on the course than I would normally be. Look, it's no gem, but it's got some length and gets the job done.

Played Thanksgiving with the blessings of my significant other. Teed off around 7am finished around 10am - walking. Started as a single and allowed a twosome to join me. Greens are surprisingly in good shape. Several greens were sanded though - on the back 10, 12 and 14 come to mind. But if they keep this up, the greens will be fast and fun later in the month. Fairways are thinning and yellow for the season. Rough cut to about the same height of the fairways. Bunkers have decent enough sand -- mostly compacted but loose enough to bounce your club. Tee boxes were flat.

PACE of play phenomenal! Hardly a soul today. Would I come back? I have too. I live here LOL. Great to spray and recover. Not so great if you spray and recover. If you know what I mean? If you don't, try and do that at a premium daily fee course and have the privilege of loosing quite a few golf balls.
