Played 12:30pm 12/10. Conditions were very decent. Tee boxes could be in better shape in terms of divots although didn't have to look too hard for a level spot. Rough was a good medium length. Greens were medium speed and bumpy but that was expected from the late tee time. Some unrepaired ball marks here and there and old poorly repaired ones. Sand was acceptable. Pace was pretty good at right around 4:15, but I what I really want to highlight is the service. The starter was right on with informing us of the pace of play and got us out right on time. I was also impressed that they had not only a marshall working the course late (4pm!) but that he called out my buddy for partially driving through a tee box while looking for his errant shot. Some might be annoyed about that, but for me it shows that they care about maintaining the conditions of the course. Plus, he was polite and professional about it while trying to maintain pace during the last few holes - great job! Finally, cart girl made it around three times with the last one around 4pm! Again, great service compared to some courses where the girl is gone by early afternoon. Keep it up Brookside, I'll be back.

Played Brookside #1 for the first time on Mon Sept 17th. I had never been to this course before, so I figured it was due for a round. The walking rate was $22 when I tee'd off at 215. This brings the cost to the same as the LA city muni's.

The tee boxes on the course were really hit or miss. Some of them were badly scared and really beat. Others were in perfect condition and you could tell they were frequently rotated. Overall they were level which is what usually matters most as you get to tee it up.

The fairways were in pretty good shape overall. Some had dried out brown patches, but in general they were even cut and plenty green. I never found myself in the dried out or thin patches so it did not effect my game. The rough was in decent shape as well, not to long to be overly penalizing nor was it easily escaped. The rough also has lots of short hills and mounds, often leaving you with a up or down hill shot. This was more of a challenge then the length of the grass. The rough was mostly green with some burned out patches.

I found myself in a couple of bunkers, and the sand was nice and fluffy soft. It looks like they are taking good care of it. It made my exit onto the greens nice and easy. The one fairway bunker I hit was also in good shape and not compact.

The greens on the course were running fairly quick, and these greens have some subtle break that you may not see the first time you play. I know I was the victim of some phantom breaks. Several of the greens had some scarring, and thin areas but the pin placements were far enough away from them that it did not really effect play. So they are definitely aware of the issue and are trying to keep the golfers away from the trouble areas.

Overall I enjoyed the course, it has a similar layout and feel to the Wilson/Harding courses, but I think the conditions were a tad bit better. One gripe about customer service is that I saw the drink cart once on hole #3. But not once on the entire back 9. I would think that most courses would have the drink cart spend 70% of its time on the back 9 where golfers are more likely to be thirsty because they have already played most of their round. Overall I will play the course again, and look forward to trying out the #2 course.

Always enjoy Brookside, the long par 4s are all I can handle and more. Nice old traditional track!

If you like 6 hour rounds and the feel of waiting in a line at Disneyland on a weekend bu without the friendly Disney service, this course is for you. I've never seen so many people waiting to tee up. This place is a joke for anyone who is a serious golfer. $80 to wait 30 minutes to get on the first tee, and then wait 1 hour to finish the first 2 holes? They stack groups every 5 minutes, and with 5-somes that insist on putting every tap-in, this was an aggravating round yesterday. Never again. I complained with one of the employees at the cart turn-in area about the 6-hour round and he said "that's not bad; most Saturdays are 7 hours long." This course is not worth $80 even if you can play it in 3 1/2 hours. I'd rather drive another 30 minutes to play better courses at half the fee. Avoid an aggravating round...avoid Brookside. If you have 7 hours to kill and have $80 burning in your pocket...go to Disneyland. Same amount of people, but more fun!!

Played Brookside #1 today. Teed off @ 6:48 on time; what a surprise! Greens were in good shape; running @ 9.5. They just had the Pasadena open here, so conditions are good. Fairways were nice with brown spots and rough was about 2 inches. Bunkers were in average condition. The course is very long and the ditch comes into play on a few holes. Course is challenging because of the length and the greens rolled true. Customer service was good; but this course is just way too crowded. Construction with Rose Bowl makes for a noisy last 3 holes. Nice course to walk with well priced snack shop. Green fees are overpriced for the facility, but they have tons of people that play here. 5 hour round for a Wed morning is just too long. We waited 10 mins on each hole because they allow 5 somes here.

Played 4/14. this course is busy. Yes, this course is long and layout is tough. Started 40-50 minutes late. Hole#2 (Par 4?!) had 3 groups waiting. wasted additional 15-20minutes. Also waited at Hole # 8 par 3 - this time 2 groups waiting and saw Hole# 2 had 4-5 groups waiting (Hole# 2 and #8 are adjacent).The course conditions was good. Just unfortunate that with the $$$ of play fee we paid to get lousy pace of play without any marshals around really making the whole experience at this Beautiful layout golf course down the drain. Finished the round in 6(Six) hours long. Will not be back for a while. Forget the fall season, ala College Football season, when they use this golf course - fairways - as Rose Bowl parking space.
