first time playing on course #1 (Koiner). i was a bit disappointed. all tho the majority of the track was pretty well kept, i can't say so for the greens. some of the greens were soft and some were firm. also, there seems to be a mixture of weed grass or whatever you call it on the greens. you can literally see each blade of the grass even tho they were mowed/cut. just not very consistence with the pace of your putts. some were fast, slow and medium. adding more of a frustration to this already diff game

tee boxes were level. fairways were green with a few spots of yellowness but it's becuz of the heat. rough areas will punish you if you're ever in them. traps see to be good. oh boy, the par 4s on this track are long. you really have to smash it for a decent 2nd shot, otherwise, diff for GIR. still debating on whether we should return or not

Played early a.m. on Sat Apr 12. The course is in B- condition. The greens are rolling fairly quick, but they're a bit bumpy. Turf conditions are very uneven; fairways are generally ok, but the rough and green surrounds are subpar - lots of clumpy grass and dirt patches. Tee boxes are just passable -- some are better than others, but none are in superior condition. The only really positive thing I can say about the course condition right now is that the trees appear to have been groomed recently. Architecturally, this course is one of the best in SoCal, but it's just a shame it gets so much play and so much neglect.

So I get to the course and try to put my name on the stand by list and the starter says that there is a 3 ball second up and if I'm ready I can go with them. I'm ready and I do and that's when it starts. We are group #6 behind group #5 a 5 ball (red Tees). Then a sixth walks up and and they start to go out as two 3 balls. We ask the starter on the T what is going on and he tells me to go back to my T area (blue tees). This happens way too much at this course. Well after a lot of b$tch ing from the other three guys (who had the t-time) the second 3 ball stood to the side of the first fairway and we tee off. And the smart ass starter said "Have a fun day". He was a jurk and I hope he wont last. Well the rest of the day WAS fun with three new friends I hope to play with again. The course is getting in good shape from Tee to Green.

Played here on Saturday morning at 6:45am which is right when the sun came up. But we were already the 6th group off as they let groups off before sunrise with lights set up on the 1st hole.

Played here on Saturday morning at 6:45am which is right when the sun came up. But we were already the 6th group off as they let groups off before sunrise with lights set up on the 1st hole.

I don't normally play early but have recently been getting really sick of playing 5.5 hour rounds on Saturday afternoons. Unfortunately my buddy and I got paired with another 3-some (older guys but nice) so it still took us close to 5 hours to finish but after the front 9, there was noone ahead or behind us the entire time. I feel bad for everyone behind the group that was after us cuz they mustve been slow!

Anyways, the customer service at Brookside seems to have gotten better. I booked through GolfNow and received a voicemail confirming it a few days later. And the lady at the starters office was super nice and friendly.

Course is in ok shape. Greens were punched a few weeks ago but most holes on course #1 are healing very nicely. Some are still pretty bumpy.

Fairways are decent... there are several areas blocked off where it's just mud or dirt.

Tee boxes were a hit or miss. Some nice, lush, and level. Others were hard and impossible to stick a tee in with huge areas of missing grass.

Bunkers were surprisingly soft and had plenty of sand.

All in all, Brookside isn't usually my first choice for golf but if you can find a golfnow deal, it's not bad.

Played Brookside #1 for $50 as they aerated the course last week. I haven't played the course in about 15 years. First let me say I was more than pleasantly surprised when the day before I received a call from the Course (yes a live person), confirming my tee time and that the greens had just been aerated. What outstanding service. At the course the starter (who was very pleasant) asked if our twosome would like to go out a little early, which we did. One look at the driving range with thin mats on concrete, all I could think about was how my tender elbow would take hitting a couple of irons off of those mats. Given that we knew the greens were aerated (which still weren't that bad), I thought the course was in very good shape. The fairways had no bare spots (maybe a little shaggy in spots), but complete coverage, the rough was what rough should be, you needed to analyze the lie (flyer, grass growing against you) to determine what kind of shot you had. The one bunker I was in had perfect sand. I definitely enjoy the layout of the course and from the blues at 6,700 yards plus is a challenge.

Now for the reason I have not been there for 15 years, pace of play was 5 plus hours. We waited on every shot, both at the tee and in the fairway. No marshal to be found. It was not the group ahead of us that was slowing things down, as they waited also,I think the reason is the male ego of having to play the blues, even though Brookside is a long course at 6,700 yards, and the first hole is deceptively short at 300 yards. they could use a Tee it Forward initiative. When the greens heal, I would definitely put this course as a place to play, except for how slow it is. the slow play reminded me of why I haven't been here in so long.

Went out on Friday 1/21 at @2:45 with a buddy and a single for $13 walking. We played the front nine and got part of the back nine in before dark: 10, 11 15, 16 and 18. The conditions overall were solid and I would be hard pressed to really take issue with anything. The winter fairways were tight but with full coverage and good lies for this time of year. Love the teeing grounds, They are generally large and flat and also had good coverage. I was only in one bunker and it was fine. The greens were in very good shape and very challenging—generally larger than the #2 course, quick and treacherous. Overall,this course is pretty flat and straight, and even from the whites, has a number of long, relatively tight par 4s that can be tough to reach, even with a couple of decent shots. Course was busy but not crowded and we moved along at a good, steady pace. We knew we wouldn't get 18 in, but it was a pretty satisfying way to finish a Friday afternoon.

Won a voucher for two and decided to play the longer of the two courses in Brookside. My brother in law and I got paired up with a single, a good player with an energetic personality made our day worthwhile except for a couple issues regarding this course. Thanks Mike!

First , I would like to start of with the negative. Pace of play was horrible especially for a weekday. The group ahead of us didn't have a clue when it came to ready golf. It seemed like they were not aware they were holding back two groups behind them eventhough they were constantly a hole behind the group in front of them. I am asian and as often as I play around the area I continually have the same complaint about these "asian" groups.

Second, the service could have been better. On the third hole our cart went out on us, so we called the starter to send us a replacement. In order to resume our pace, we decided to walk until the replacement cart came. After hauling my 80 lb cart bag for THREE holes and calling them a few times, our cart finally came. d%mn was I HOT!!!

Another issue was the marshall...apparently the group in front of us were regulars on the course and rather than pushing them to maintain POP, he was very passive.

In contrast, the playing conditions were very good. The tee boxes for the most part was flat and smooth. The fairways were in good shape with some run. Sand was inconsistent at times. The greens are almost recovered from the punching, running fast and true with a few bumps.

Overall, other than the issues I had, I really enjoyed playing this classical course in Pasadena...Besides getting three birdies, had great company and you can't complain about playing a round of golf for FREE....
