The course is in great shape from tee to green. The only thing is that fairways were a little damp so the ball didn't roll too much. That was really no big deal. The greens were pretty fast and the ball rolled true. You can tell they have been taking care of the courses.

They're getting the course ready for this coming wkend's Pasadena City. The course is in very good condition. There are a couple of tee boxes that are roped off for conditioning (#17), and some of the holes on the front 9 are cut a little raggedy, but other than that, the course is playing great. I think the greens on the backside are rolling a little faster than the front side, and be prepared for very little roll with your tee ball as the fairways are a little hairy. By the way, I think several of the younger guys in the starter's window should be given credit; much more professional than that Chi Chi guy and some of the other older guys.

Course was in great shape! Green were very nice, soft and fast. Bring your own drinks because the cart girl does avoids golfers.

I like William Bell designs. Its just this one is inconsistant in its maintenance. Maybe its because its a parking lot a few times a year. This could be a great course (Course #1) but you better call ahead to make sure the course is in good shape and you don't get stuck with a five+ hour round. Its nice to walk but I will don't mind paying $20 more and playing a great course like Rob ranch or Angeles National

Well, the course is in immaculate shape right now. The Pasadena City Championship is just around the corner, I decided to compete in this event and went for a practice round. The fairways are nice and lush, giving you gorgeous lies. The greens have completely healed and running about a 9 on the stimp, which should get a little faster by the time the championship rolls around. If you want to play a beautiful course and not pay $100, go to Brookside #1 and definitely get your moneys' worth while it lasts. It's a shame that they don't keep city courses in this condition all the time, but with all the traffic I'm sure it's hard to keep up. The pace of play was actually great, but we were all pretty much single digit handicappers, so the pace may be a little bias. The only COMPLAINT was that we didn't see the cart girl at all during our 4:15 minute round....I'm not sure what happened, but I was so dehydrated by the end of the round that I had to buy two gatorades while analyzing my post-round score at the clubhouse. The clubhouse staff is very slow in taking orders, so don't expect fast service after your round!

Some new fairway bunkers strategically located really into play.

i have been a big brookside basher in the past, but i can't believe what i saw! it was a playable course! all the tee boxes were in great shape, the fairways were good and the greens were soft and rolled fairly smooth. they were still on the slow side (it is brookside) but they are augusta smooth for that place! now obviously they are getting ready for the Pasadena city championship, so it's a little like being on putting your best face on for a party, you want to impress everyone, so we'll see if they can maintain this incredibly high level for them. i like most of the new bunkers, but the one on 3 puzzles me. the hole is already tough and long, adding a bunker in a landing area where you're still going to be 200+ out is just cruel.

i do have to gripe about 2 things though... we were the second group off on a friday morning and it still took 4.5 hours! second, i still saw the huge back-up at #2 at around 9:30 which means that you still can't tee off past 8am and have a decent time. i can't believe i'll say this, but i'll play it again...until they break my heart again, play a round in 5.5 hours behind a fivesome and the course goes to crap after the PCC.

Much easier to get a time on course 2. Very strange for a saturday. Finished in about 4.5 hrs. The greens were aerated 2 wks ago and were surprisingly rolling ok. Bumpy here and there but not sandy. Definitely worth playing. Course plays pretty long on some holes and you have to place your ball well off the tee.

Customer Service: Not the friendliest of places, the starter "Darryl" checked us in and when asked if they were running late, he said you have time to hit range balls in a non-polite fashion. We finally teed off about 20 mins after our scheduled tee time. We didn't see the cart girl until the 13th hole, and that was the last time we saw her.

Tees & Fwy: The tee boxes were pretty level, hardly any broken tees on the ground. They are placing bunkers "strategically" for the long hitters...I guess they think the course is too easy, I'm not sure. Fairways were in pristine condition, didn't see one bare spot, as mentioned before there are bunkers under construction throught-out the course and they look immaculate.

Bunkers & Greens: I was in the bunkers a few times, sand is very soft, consistent most of the time, although a noticed there are multiple pebbles within the sand (be careful with your wedges). The greens are recovering pretty nicely after being aerated about three weeks ago. Most greens are undulating, have some slopes from back-to-front, and give you an optical illusion which I learned that most putts are pretty much straight!

Overall I'd give the course a 7.0, it should improve alot more once the greens recover from aeration. The non-resident rate of $50 (walking)seemed a little too steep for an American golf municipal course. The price/value ratio is definitely "disproportionaly elevated" for this course. Play during the week...even then it's still not worth the price!
