This is one of the great local courses. It is strategic, not penal. If you like this type of course, it doesn't get better. It is far more interesting than your typical target golf course. Most people play from the back tees, but they are not nearly good enough for this, which means that the course can play slow. It is a hidden gem of a design, very much in the vein of Bethpage Black. A major event could easily be held here after some intensified grooming and maintenence.

Played today and the course looked and played great. Fairways, teeboxes, greens, and rough looked great. Now that its getting darker later, I'm hoping to get out more and play.

Either people are fixing their ball marks or the super is doing his job. Maybe its a combination of both. Sorry Sly...I'll have to pass on that....and I don't swing that way. But hey knock yourself out...maybe you could do a 2 for 1. The cutie I was talking about is a woman. She is a brunette with some very nice curves.

Teed off this morning. I haven't played this course since last October, but I was very surprised at the good conditions. I paid the resident rate of $38 (walking), so I don't expect the conditions to similar to a place like Angeles National. Generally, I expect the tee boxes to be a little beat up, the greens slow, and a lot of dry patches in the fairway. Well, today I was wrong. Real wrong. The tee boxes were very, very good, the greens were rolling as fast as I've ever seen them (and they were comparable to PGA Oak Valley where I had played the day before), and there were virtually no dry patches in the fairways. Of course there was some dead grass, but those areas were confined to just in front of the tee boxes and well off the fairways. I even noticed that the cups were re-painted. Basically, I thought the course was in very good and even excellent condition - especially since it is early February.

Wow....what happened? Did MGMT go on vacation and forget about the course. I was surprised to see how beat up the course was. I understand some courses like to let the rough go brown during the winter, but the fairways too? Plus a ton of thin spots in the fairways. The bunkers had rocks and cigar/cig butts. I only played 15 holes, but I counted around 50 beer bottle caps Please someone tell the course super to come back and bring Brookside back to life.

The big surprise was pace of play that I remember always at this course you had to wait & wait to each shot but now we finished less than 5 hours.Maybe increased steeper green fee or just cold weather of that day was icy all over the place(greens,fairways ,cart path even water for towel at 1st tee box).Until 9;30 we played with frozen greens that we could not stop the ball with wedges nor putters.But when came back to normal conditions was very pleasant & realized their good conditions generally.

Greens are the best I have ever seen them! They are smooth and reasonably quick. The fairways were decent considering all the liter left after the UCLA over USC victory of saturday. Still lots of bottle caps , broken glass, charcoal, etc. Course is in very nice shape! With a number of "big" par 4's, this course always plays tough for me. Not a lot of birdies here!

The gold tees were way in the back but the blue tees were near the whites and sometimes the reds. the fairways did not roll as much as I remembered The greens were fast but a few holes were bumpy. the green fee is up $2 to $38 now. Wilson/harding/santa anita is a better value but brookside from the tips is a better challenge. You will use all your clubs. watch out for the 1st hole with the front pin placement above the hole is a sure 3 putter.
