Nice conditions overall for a local muni. Very green for the time of year with the ball sitting up nicely on the kikuya fairways. Some of the rough is quite healthy too so look for it to shut down your club-face as it is a stout-bladed grass. Greens were also very verdant with an occasional bare spot around the edges but nothing that interfered with play. A few bumps here and there but pretty good all-in-all for muni golf. Although I never visited any, the sand looked very well conditioned throughout and was probably the best part of the course. Tees were hacked up on the short fours and threes and plenty un-level, but that's typical around here.

Tough wee golf course where you are only ever one swing from disaster all the time with laterals and ob on every hole. Has the habit of getting you thinking your way around defensively ("how should I hit this to avoid the trouble?") instead of approaching it from an attacking standpoint. I like the challenge, but it is very hard to score well round here. Much tougher than the scorecard/slope imply.

Played this course on 7/11/12 at 3pm, and it was in great shape ! The fairways, greens and bunkers all looked good and played well. The only problem was on a few holes in the fairway there were swarming bee's. Also at about 6-7pm you get to see deer that come out of the hills to eat. Other than that hats off to De Bell for the new and improved clubhouse, pro shop and great course conditions. This is my choice for the best course value for the money in the LA Valley area. Can't wait to play it again!!!

played 6-29 early morning walked the course in about 2:15. tee boxes are fairly level but a lot of them have heavy divot damage due to this being a short course and irons are used a lot off the tee. fairways have been recently punched. fairway rough is 1-2 inches and easy to hit from. rough around the greens is kikuyu 2-3 inches and thick. greens are in good shape medium speed and rolling true. just remember everything breaks towards burbank. found one sand trap with nice firm packed sand. short course that places a premium on shot placement if you try to over power the course you kind of find yourself in a lot of trouble.

Really tight, dogleg fairways. Bring extra balls. I tend to spray the ball and if you're out of the fairway, you are done, no chance of recovery. Small greens.

Overall, I won't be back as I found the course layout uninspiring and it doesn't fit my game.

Not bad, not good, just kind of forgettable. $50 with cart holiday rate. Had a good time with friends. Saw a beautiful deer and fox pup.

Played on 5/12 the course was in great condition tee to green. The pace of play was very slow we teed off at 11:45 and was only able to play 13 holes in 4 1/2 hours. No sign of marshall out on the course though we did see the cart girl about 5 times. The foursome in front of was clueless and on hole 12 one player hit 6 or 7 tee shots before deciding to move on , this is why they need marshalls out on the course to reduce this type of play and reduce the time to play 18 holes. The starter was great and the clubhouse is excellent. Well worth the green fee and one of the best deals in So. Ca.

plated 4-3 early morning 3hr 35min. short tight course with lots of doglegs right and left premium its placed on shot making. tee boxes are ok with some heavy divot damage on shorter holes. fairways are in good shape with nice lies. rough is anywhere from 1 inch to 5 inches. greens are really nice right now pretty smooth with medium to fast speed especially on down hill putts. pro shop very nice.

20 bucks walking Sunday afternoon. At around a buck-per-hole any golf is good by me. Therefore, the following review is biased.

Here's the "quick-golf" deal in LA - tired of waiting on every hole?Iif you are looking for cheap. quiet, challenging weekend golf, then choose Debell after a decent rain. You see, they don't let carts out for a day or two afterwards. No one really wants to walk this course as it is so hilly - therefore, no people. Perfect!

Course conditions are average muni with thin and dormant fairways/rough. Greens look good but a bit bumpy with average speed. Tee boxes tend to be thin and marked up given how many irons are played off them.

Course is a wee beast - especially in the wind like today (which tends to swirl around the canyons making club selection a total lottery). Actually played the whole course with the same beat-up pro-v today, which is always a sign that a good day was had on this course.

Greens are generally tiny with a LOT of break. Also, 11/18 holes have OB and/or laterals on either side - most of them definitely in play. The other 7 have at least an OB or lateral down one side. Bottom line: hit it straight - not long. Also, be prepared for LOTS of break on putts - even the short ones. Difficult to read too much into them.

There you go - my tip for easy, un-crowded Sunday golf (rain-gods willing).

I met my brothers here for my continuing adventures with free birthday rounds. None of us had a copy of Southland Golf and the kid at the desk insisted on having the ad in hand in order to give my brothers the discounted rate. They ended up paying the full rate ($31 non-resident + $14 cart fee), while I received a free round after I paid the cart fee. That was slightly annoying, but we were on the course at our scheduled 10:45am tee time and proceeded to enjoy our time at De Bell.

This mountain course is not long, but it's challenging and I liked the layout. It tends to be narrow and there are plenty of doglegs and a few blind shots. On the day we played, the greens were pretty fast and, yes, everything breaks toward Burbank. It was nice and quiet throughout our round: not a bad respite from the daily grind of the 5 and 134 freeways.

Overall, the course was decently maintained. Most of the tee boxes and fairways were in good shape, with an occasional blemish. Unfortunately, I found trouble in one of the greenside bunkers on 13; not sure if a sprinkler leaked into it, but it was pretty muddy in there.

Pace of play was a bit on the slow side, but I did see the marshall twice. The beverage cart girl was seen once on the front nine and a few times on the back nine, which is always a good thing.

My brothers and I enjoyed the course and we all agreed that we would play here again, if only to get the honor of ringing "de bell" after playing the 12th hole (par 3 downhill blind tee shot) to let the next group know they can tee it up.
