Played on Saturday 2/12 with my father and his friend from Law School. Got a 9:04 tee-time and was paired with a single.

I guess management really got the message. Customer service had improved drastically from the last time I played here. Starter checked us in and sent us to the 1st tee promptly, and the marshals really seemed to be doing their job patrolling the course. Pace of play was an issue on the front nine, but it really opened up towards the end of the 1st 9 and on the back.

Course was in some of the best conditions I have seen it in. Greens were in great condition and were extremely difficult. Very challenging, but definitely not impossible. Fairways were very firm, especially inside 100 yards, and it definitely caused our group some problems.

Very impressed with the turnaround this course seemed to make from previous years. Gone were the downright rude and careless staff members, and management really seemed to have control over operation of the entire course.

Greens very slick especially from above the hole - downright impossible in a few cases!

Fairways kind of thin and dormant - ditto rough. Tee boxes in their usual beat-up shape. Sand good.

For 27 bucks with a cart for a weekend twilight round you can't beat it. Very challenging little course - narrow and bending (especially first nine) and with really tricky greens it will challenge your game no matter what. Plus, you get to hit every club in the bag.

Pace of play good at 4.15 hours.

If you see college kids with Glendale College "Vaqueros" on their bags all I can say is make sure you get out ahead of them! Now, for your next lesson gentlemen, complete the following: "Play Ready G___?". I'd be embarrassed if I was these guys with all the hackers piling up behind them and waiting on EVERY shot.

That said - course is in good condition for mid-winter - fairways are solid, traps are full of sand. The tee-boxes are a bit of a mess at times but that's what happens when there are a lot of short par 4's that everyone hits irons on.

The greens were excellent for a muni - great grass coverage, minimal ball-mark damage, generally smooth, medium firm. They had good, consistent medium pace and tracked nicely. Best muni greens in the area IMO (and I've played them all).

Thought I'd try here for my first round after the flood as it is on the side of a mountain. Most of it had drained well and was in good condition considering the recent weather. There were soft spots and some standing water, mainly on the low side of the course (holes 3/4). Otherwise, although it was soft it was quite playable.

Tee boxes - many of the markers had been moved up so grass coverage was generally good - the back tees are looking nice and green with good coverage and should be good when they open them back up

Fairways - nice and lush although I suspect they haven't been able to mow them in a week so they are perhaps a bit shaggy. No big deal overall

Rough - very healthy (thx mother nature) - avoid!

Greens - look great! A bit slow obviously and bumpy, it looks like they got a basic trim for the first time in a while. Once they firm up they should be very good for a muni, with nice coverage and little sign of bare spots/ball-mark damage.

At 19 bucks walking it's a great twilite round! (a good idea to play here after a big rain as well as the drainage is they don't allow carts for a few days - keeps a lot of people away who don't want to hike up the hills, so the course was pretty empty)

Played De Bell Golf Course for the first time in six or seven months. This course has come a long way in the last couple of years. With the improvement in detail and just overall apperance the course is just more enjoyable to be at. The greens are better than I have ever seen them and the quality of the fairways and roughs are much better than they used to be. On the scorecard this course is only around 5600 yards, but if you can not shape a shoot or have any accuracy you will have a long day and De Bell Golf Club.
The new club house is a great addition to the course I just wish there would be a little better customer service from the pro shop staff and reastaurant staff. It seems like they are just a little to busy sometimes to pay attention to their customers in a timely fashion.

Played Sunday morn - pace of play pretty good for a Sunday at 4.5 hours for a foursome (only real wait was at the par threes).

Tee boxes are generally a shambles - like teeing it up in a sandbox. The only exception are the rebuilt tees (there are five of them) which are nice and level but kind of hard as they turf is still establishing on them.

Fairways good, bunkers (the one I was in) fluffy, and the greens were pretty immaculate all in all (only a few un-repaired ballmarks here and there and running smooth, true and almost medium pace as the sun dried them out - very good for a muni, although hard to read).

Rough is real springy kikuyu so it can be funky to hit out of - ball tends to knuckle and flights in odd directions at times when you hit through the tough stuff. Best to avoid it!

Good fun and value all around (if you can hold your nose on the tee-boxes).

Played 2 groups behind Pisano, if I heard the starter's intercom clearly. Slow for a wednesday, but perhaps the "everybody pays resident rate" got the folks out. Hard to beat for 14 bucks walking, although a 3.05pm start got us in as a four right at nightfall (5+ hours).

Tee boxes are crud except for the recently rebuilt ones - bare, beat up and lumpy. Fairways were the best part - lush as they looked like they were punched in the last month or so. Greens looked nice cosmetically but were significantly bumpy and slooooow which is unusual for here given the slopes. Putts above the hole on many holes that would normally never saty on the green (yes, I'm talking #4 & #8) were not making it to the hole. Looked like some of them were verti-cut.

Typical muni golf (watch out for incoming missiles! - lots of hackers here!). Good price - also a tough track much more so than the card would indicate. Nice aspect is you get to hit all the clubs in your bag (if you play it as it was intended to be played!).

Played Sat. 7/10 at 7:20 am. My first time on this course and was warned to bring lots of balls. It appeared to be a short course so I played the blues at 5,631 yards. I think I would have had more fun off the whites at 5,353. While it doesn't seem like much difference, the pushed back blues require a very accurate tee shot...and it helps if you can work the ball. At this point, my game lacks such finesse. The course is in beautiful condition with lush green grass and punishing rough. The course design requires more brain than brawn and the back 9 is more forgiving than the front. The greens can be difficult to read and you swear some break uphill. Hole 12 is gimmicky as it is a blind 3 par dog left. But you do get to ring "de bell" to let those behind you know they can hit. I'll return to this course for the challenge, conditions & service...but on a weekday when the rates are lower!
