The previous two reviews for De Bell show that this can definitely be a love it or hate it layout. I'll leave it for the reader to go deeper into the earlier postings for a more detailed course description -- suffice it to say it's generally short, tight, challenging and built into hillside above Burbank. It tends to get the better of me and I don't play it too frequently, but I happen to be one who appreciates its character and challenges. Today was my first trip out there since completion of the new clubhouse and I generally found the course in better shape overall as I've seen it. More grass on more tee boxes, even where I've seen some sparse, overworked boxes in the past. Not all perfectly level, but most were very good and none too bad. Tricky greens varied a little in pace, but averaged a good medium speed and were in good condition -- not many ball marks at all. Avoided the sand so I can't speak about that. Fairways were in good shape and no thin or bare areas come to mind. The new clubhouse has a Craftsmen-esque exterior that is nice enough but understated from the outside. However, the experience inside is a quite a bit different form the old clubhouse. The pro shop has a nice, rich, warm feel to it and the upstairs bar and outside deck are more spacious and better oriented to view fairways in one of three directions. A hint -- the downstairs men and women's restrooms are basic and clean, but locking one-person-at-a-time style. If you don't want to wait and are willing to head upstairs, the restroom in the bar has more capacity and a nicer upscale clubhouse feel. There is even an extra room in the back section of the men's room with a couple of tables and chairs to play cards or whatever. I can't give you details o the upstairs' women's room, but's nice to see the improvements on and off the course. Pace was a bit slow, as in 5-hours, but it's Sunday. It left me feeling that I wanted to come back again and get beat up sooner rather than later.

This is my home course. I usually play it around 2-3 times a month. I enjoy watching all the big hitters struggle with all the doglegs. It is not long long course, but it does force you to use all your clubs and all different types of shots. For the length and price, it is a great weekday play.

Worthless!!! I have been playing golf for 18 years and have played lots of golf courses, this is by far one of the worst. The greens are bumpy, the tee boxes are uneven, the yardages on the course are off by 10 yards or more. The par 4s are as long as the par 3s, there are dogleg par 3s...I mean really need I say more. Do yourself a favor, never play this course.

Played DeBell yesterday at noon. The greens are almost back after the aeration. They're rolling much more true than 2 weeks ago but the speed is not close to being back yet. We had played there the weekend of the Burbank City Championship and they were lightning. Probably rolling half that speed now.

I went out as a single hoping to catch someone and join up. I caught a twosome on the 5th hole and they never asked me to join them. I proceeded to catch them on every teebox for the rest of the round. When I made the turn I asked the Marshall if he could do something. He said he knows there are four twosomes playing in a row and there's nowhere for me to go...and he said he was leaving for the day. Needless to say, what was a fun and good scoring round turned sour very fast as I was waiting on every shot.

If you're going to play DeBell, understand that there are infrequent golfers that play there because it's so cheap.

In terms of the course, I only hit driver on 1, 10, 11, 18. Those are the only holes where it's any real benefit. I birdied two par 5's hitting hybrids off the tee. You should be able to finish at DeBell in a shade over four hours...maybe 4:45 on the weekend.

Played again March 19. Course is in pretty great shape overall. Greens have never been better. Firm, medium/fast, and smoooooth. Even getting away from their standard pin positions. A bunch of pins were in places I've never seen. Fairways are in decent shape overall. Some divot damage on the shorter holes. Not pretty looking, but consistently good. Sand is still very good. Rough and Tee boxes are still not in great shape. Rough is low right now for the 1st cut, maybe an inch after that first cut you never know what you will end up with. Could be 6" and lush, or thin and loose sand to a fairway type of lie. Tee boxes have always been in pretty bad shape, but they are getting a bunch of work. Looks like a lot of them have recently been punched/sanded. If they can get these in better shape than usual, you can't beat it for the price.

Fairways decent enough with some of the shorter holes having a large amount of divot damage. Sand was decent. Seems they have cleaned up some of the overhanging trees opening up a couple of holes. New clubhouse is beautiful. Cart lady ignored me once of the two times she saw me. ProShop guys ignored me for about 5 minutes while talking to another guest about TV shows for at least a good five minutes before helping me.

Great course, even despite some rain and heavy fog. Great layout of holes, many dogleg's here, although many opportunities to cut corners. Greens and tee boxes were very nice, and for the price, this course is well worth it. Fun place to play. Although foggy and wet today, course is in excellent shape. No cart girl around, but Marshall showed up 5 times. Pace was perfect. Never waited on a hole, although we did go out pretty early. just over 4 hours. Just about all putts break toward downtown Burbank and away from the mountains.

Fairways were nice but some barespots as well. Rough was challenging to get out of. Traps were hard to fluffy. Greens were nice. Great pinplacements. Pace of play was good. Overall, course is nice change of pace from the wideopen muni's
