Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Teed off at 9:20 Sunday AM, finished right 2:05pm. Felt longer than that though. Waiting around on lots of tees, but holes played quickly. Course was wet down severely because of the 105º+ heat, so actually played soft it a lot of areas. Overall not bad conditions. It feels a bit expensive now with the new rates, however a 4hr45min round at an LA City course on a sunday morning is still impressive in my experience.
Greens are smoother than usual, some slight bumpiness but not enough to take the ball off course. Greens were receptive despite firmer than normal conditions . Typical conditions everywhere else on the course. First ones off as twosome, finished in under 3 hours walking.
Played again March 19. Course is in pretty great shape overall. Greens have never been better. Firm, medium/fast, and smoooooth. Even getting away from their standard pin positions. A bunch of pins were in places I've never seen. Fairways are in decent shape overall. Some divot damage on the shorter holes. Not pretty looking, but consistently good. Sand is still very good. Rough and Tee boxes are still not in great shape. Rough is low right now for the 1st cut, maybe an inch after that first cut you never know what you will end up with. Could be 6" and lush, or thin and loose sand to a fairway type of lie. Tee boxes have always been in pretty bad shape, but they are getting a bunch of work. Looks like a lot of them have recently been punched/sanded. If they can get these in better shape than usual, you can't beat it for the price.
Decent winter shape. Greens are near perfect in smoothness and firmness. Just a bit slow though. Rough low. Fairways decent enough with some of the shorter holes having a large amount of divot damage. Sand was decent. Seems they have cleaned up some of the overhanging trees opening up a couple of holes. New clubhouse is beautiful. Cart lady ignored me once of the two times she saw me. ProShop guys ignored me for about 5 minutes while talking to another guest about TV shows for at least a good five minutes before helping me.
PLayed 3-4 times in the past week. Firstly not to stereotype or to be rude, but what is with most of these groups of "asian" golfers??? I know this is already bad. As most that I have played with were great fun, but this past week the knuckleheads were out. 3 seperate rants..... First rant- This is after my last round there Saturday. I was waiting in line to ask the starter if anyone had turned in my wool cap. So I'm next. The lady in front of me pays, finishes up after about 5 minutes of who knows what.... and I take a step and drop my cell phone about a foot in front of me. I take a step up and grab it and this asian guy jumped in front of me in the line, money in hand and handed to the starter. I loudly said "are you kidding me, you're just going to jump in front of me that way? ". Noone noticed. Well fine whatever, he's in a hurry to pay for his supertwilight and get first on the list or whatever. But here come 7 of his buddies, all jumping in front of me. Now I love the starters at Hansen but cmon. I even tried to ask a question by saying to him- Hey I just want to know if anyone... he said "hold on hold on." WTF??? Okay so that was rude- Rant 2 entails me playing as a single behind a 4 some of very bad asian golfers. I was off the greens before the first was teed off on the next hole. I purposely would go to make eye contact to ask if I could play through since there were only 5 holes open in front of them. Not once did they aknowledge me. So at number 4, they were on their way to the green, I decided to skip and play number 5. I finished number 5 and went back to number 4 where they were still putting. I flew by them on the next tee box. I just can't believe they didn't aknowledge me. This was Saturday also. Crazy. Well rant 3 is the worst of all. During the week both wednesday and thursday the group in front of me were asians. Now these dudes smoked liked crazy and though nothing of throwing their butts on the green. Whereever they were were butts all around. I watched them throw them in front of me. On the par 3s where I could see in front of them same exact thing. At least 1 smoker throwing a butt on the green. Some were left right by the hole!!!! Now like I said didn't mean to single out the Asian golfers at Hansen, but last week that's what it was. They have really invaded the course, and aren't repecting it, and that's the problem I have. Course is in decent enough shape. The greens are fast for a muni, and fairly firm. They are replacing the sand in most of the bunkers so lots of plugged lies for now, but the end result will be worth it. Definitely feels like beach sand. Greens stay pretty true in the mornings, but in the afternoons get fairly bumpy. Overall its in pretty good shape, with good pace. Not one of my rounds was over 5 hours, with 2 on Saturday in the rain being played in under 4 hours each round. This is my favorite LA city course.
I also hate their cart policy. You get penalized if you golf as a single. Basically they do a per cart fee. If you are by yoruself you pay the full 24 and get 5 bucks back. If you play not at twilight. Thats BS. Also they juice the carts only long enough to play 1 round. I didn't know this till my cart ran out of juice on the 3rd hole of the 2nd round. The guy was nice enough to charge me the twilight rate in the pouring rain, but still that's ridiculous! No wonder I normally walk. Total cost breakdown for playing 2 rounds on Saturday- 28.50 for each round so $57 there, 12 for the cart the first round (I split with the guys I played with), and 16 for the second. Thats 85 dollars at a muni!

PLayed 2-21. Teed off at 12:00.
Overall the course was in fair shape. A little disappointed in the greens, as the practice greens were flying the course were about 2/3 of the speed.
Also whoever was placing pins must have had some fun. There was not 1 pin in the center of any green -not even front to back. Almost every pin was within 5 paces of the fringe. With I'd say at least half being within 2 1/2-3 paces. Didn't bother me much, as most were fair except for a couple that were on ridges that you actually had to run by the hole and let it trickle back down into the back of the hole. Really not your typical tuesday afternoon positions though.
Pace was astonishing for a tuesday afternoon. We were moving along nicely till the first par 3 (hole 6) where there were 2 groups on the tee. Despite that we finished the front half in just about 2hr 30mins. Normal for here. The back half got really jammed up. Waited about 15 minutes on 10, Waited on every shot thereafter until number 14 (a par 3) where there were once again 2 groups waiting. Well after a good 20+ minutes waiting, things opened up. However the back half ended up being over 3 hours 15 minutes. Almost a 6 hour round.
Its a good test. But sometimes getting on, or getting round in a reasonable amount of time may be tough.

Played Thursday. Arrived at 12:21 was teed off by 12:24. Played in under 4.5 hours. Still had a bit of waiting, especially towards the back half, but still reasonable pace of play.
Course was in normal condition. Still don't get why every time I play the course the holes feel small, but at least one of the teaching pros I played with today felt the same way when he plays the course. I watched him shoot 5 or 6 under for the round, with 4 birds and an eagle on the back. Guess the hole isn't as small as it seems.

Decent pace of play for sat am-under 4:45min. Course is in good shape. Greens are consistent, however everytime I play here the holes look small. Almost every hole has a bit of cave into the hole. Maybe its just me though.
Rough and fairways and sand are all normal for this course. The tee boxes are beat up, but working on them. Overall a very consistent effort throughout.

Course is in very good condition right now. The greens are extremely consistent and fast, however they were still receptive. The fairways were perfect, the rough was pretty good, and the sand was decent.
Just a great course. It has been re-rated by the USGA and now on paper is even more difficult. I don't believe it's as difficult as the ratings suggest.

First time playing this course in my hometown. Luckily my wife gave me a gift certificate as a gift, otherwise the cost would keep me away. Teed off right around 9. Finished a little before 1 as a twosome following a foursome.
I'm not quite sure why people gripe about this course. I found the layout to be fantastic. The conditions were pretty much immaculate. No complaints at all about the conditions.
The course has a good variety of holes. While not an overly difficult course, the greens and pin placements are its main defense. Lots of subtle breaks. I think the biggest break I had all day was maybe 2-1/2 feet, however I didn't have any straight putt within 7 feet all day.
Fairways are fairly wide in most instances, the greens for the most part are fairly large, and very few sand traps to worry about. The rough could be grown out to be a little more penalizing, as its current state is a little over 1 inch, and only once did I have a ball in the rouch that sat somewhat down.
Overall it was a treat. I will be back, however not soon as the cost is a setback.

Teed off right on tmie @ 5:36am. 4th group out and it took us 4.5 hours. Course was in decent shape. The greens are at about 98% recovered. Some squishy spots, and some bumps, but otherwise the greens were consistent. Sand was also consistent.
Fairways, rough, tee boxes were all marginal. Some lush areas, some thin areas. I'd consider it normal conditions for this course.
Overall a very good course for the price.

Made a trip out Sunday morning got there at 6am and was the first single on the waiting list. Out by 6:45. Done by 11:15. If it weren't for the group in front of us- 1st timers on the course playing from the backs, over 2 holes behind at some points- it woulda been a sub 4 hour round.
Course was in good shape. Greens/aprons were much slower than I remembered. Still quite firm though. Fairways were in good shape, but a bit on the long side. Not a lot of roll out there today. Temp tee on number 7 making it a par 3 gives you three back to back to back par 3s.
Definitely worth the money.
