Played this course 7 times while vacationing from Indiana and loved it. This course is proof that a course does have to be long to be both challenging and enjoyable. This is the only West Coast course I have played so I have no idea how typical this is. I did miss the local custom of visible yardage markers at 100, 150 and 200 yards. This would speed play, but pace of play is not really a problem. I had a great deal of trouble determining if the putts were really uphill or downhill but the locals we were paired with did not seem to have the same problem. Other than hole 6 the par 3’s are generally long, especially hole 7, probably to compensate for the short par 4’s and 5’s. Hole 12 is a blind par 3 over the side of a mountain. The hole could be improved by posting the pin position at the tee. Rattlesnake warnings keep one from pursuing errant shots in the cliffs and crevasses. Be sure to bring plenty of balls. There are no water hazards on the course.
All and all this was as enjoyable as any course I have played. The replay rate of $5 on weekdays makes this a great course to play all day.

I just recently played this course(with Auflu) and enjoyed it. I've played it twice now, it's very much worth the green fees and provides a nice challenge for all golfers. Many holes do not require length off the tee or in the fairway, but emphasize shot making and positioning. One of the par 3's is longer than a few of the par 4's, however the Par 4s tend to be very narrow and have severe doglegs. The greens are small and have some humps and interesting breaks. Overall the course is challenging for the length and I would play it again anytime. My only gripe would be the pace of play, It seems like the staff are either busy or they may be understaffed while they are building the new clubhouse so marshal appearances were few and far between.

This course has great bones. Loads of OB, narrow fairways and short holes, it's a fun course where you don't have to be long to do well. Ball placement is everything here. Club house is under construction and should be ready around Novemeber 2008 give or take 2 months. According to the starter they are on schedule. Back 9 is now the front 9 holes and the front 9 is the back 9. $2 key deposit for riding in cash to be paid when you get your cart. Greens were slow/med and soft, lots of break if you bear in mind the course sits on a foothill and the ball will roll towards LA. Fairways are in good shape for water restrictions. Sand is OK, hard packed loads of leaves and no one likes to rake their mess. Tee boxes, some uneven. The only beef I had was you would think the course would play faster for being a short course but at 4 1/2 to 5 hour rounds... throw in the heat and Smokey the Bear said the Fire Risk was HIGH (Sign just before you enter DeBell, I figure I will come back when its cooler. Overall, I like this course b/c it challenges you to use driver sparingly OR long to mid irons off the tee box. Remember ball placement is EVERYTHING here or bring a few extra balls for errant shots.

A fun course with plenty of challenge. It is a little odd having par 3's almost as long as the par 4's. They're still working on the new clubhouse but they're getting by ok with the makeshift facilities. It would help if they put up a directional sign. We had to ask the martial to find the beer cart but once we met we were never dry. The whole staff and the beer cart girl were all really nice and friendly. You can't beat it for the price and getting a tee time is a lot easier than the LA munies.

This was my first round of golf where there were no flat fairways. With that said, I was disappointed that none of the tee boxes were flat either. They are still building the club house, which makes for a lot of noise on the 1st and 10th tee as well. Sand played like mud, but we did tee off at 6am. Last but not least, the greens were inconsistent. Some were fast and hard, others were very soft.

the course is very short; so i just left my driver, 3 wood, and 2iron hybrid in the bag and played the course, made it a challenge for myself. it was quite enjoyable.

Course in good shape. New clubhouse will be a big improvement.

We braved the elements, yesterday, and got a chance to play another one of our favorites. It was great to get an opportunity to play another round, here, and it was a pleasure to find it in such good condition.

This is a target-style golf course that demands accuracy from both the tee and the fairway. You must have trust and confidence in your iron game, and you've got to "know thyself" regarding the challenge of cutting corners on the numerous doglegs that this course offers to you. Now, once you've reached the green, you might find it to be somewhat difficult to read the breaks. I always keep the mountains in mind before I roll the ball toward the hole. They are often the overriding factor when determining the break.

Looking back on my round, yesterday, I realized that it was important to do well on the short (and fun) par-5 holes, because I would need those strokes when it came to playing the difficult (and mostly long) par-3 holes. The short, dogleg par-four holes are always fun (just as long as I don't try to "bite off" too much real estate). As always, good luck to you out there!

Played at 8:00 a.m. with Fear, Danoemi, and Bob. The course has just been aerated including the greens, however the course is recovering quite nicely. The tee boxes were free of any broken tees, a little unlevel at some points, but nothing that should alter your tee shot. This course is definitely "target golf" as it's not very long, but will PENALIZE you if your not straight! The green speed according to the "locals" is definitely not up to par, but again that it's expected from greens that were just aerated. Two very interesting holes got me and screwed my score, but it was all due to poor course management on those two holes. Hole #10 is really an easy hole and I somehow managed to "double bogey" the hole....and I just hate plain bogeys, so you can imagine getting a double! Well, it was nice playing with fellow GKers, Fear beat me by one yard! If your still reading my review, wait for two weeks until the greens recover, I can only imagine how much tougher this course will put up its defense against par with fast greens!
