Played here on Aug 3rd early in the morning and the course is in great shape. The bunker renovation on 1 and 18 is going to be awesome once it's finished. Tee boxes are in pretty bad shape since you are hitting irons off of most of them. Hard to keep them in pristine shape with so many players every day going through. Greens are in great shape and are the true protector of this course... get above the hole on some of these holes and you're praying for a two putt. Fairways are great for the most part with the exception of 5 which is a hot mess but is coming back, albeit slowly. Pace of play can be a bit brutal in the afternoons.

Played today in a nice POP of 3 H. Course was very quite? Found the tee boxes to be hit/miss, depending upon which hole. Fairways had good coverage in some areas, browned out areas in some and GUR in some. Some decent roll and acceptable lies. Rough was about 1/2 inch on the outside of fairways. Having avoided the bunkers, all I can say, is they appeared fine and heard no complaints from anyone. Greens were in good shape. They were a little soft (void of divots +) but putted/chipped well. Customer service was excellent at all levels.

Played De Bell on Saturday as some friends offered and I hadn't made any plans yet for that day. It was probably not a wise choice with my handicap faltering throughout March and the beginning of April. This course is just a nightmare if you're not pretty perfect with your target golf game on the day.

Conditions just okay right now at De Bell, although you begin to think it might be pretty good when you're driving up the hill to the entrance and see the lush fairway on #1. Be not fooled - much of the rest of the course is thin and dry, but there are definitely some good areas as well. Still, would have thought the rains would have had more of an impact here.

Tee boxes are in pretty rough shape and need some attention. The bunkers are definitely thin and could also get an upgrade. The greens? Well, there were some signs of the recent aerating on most of the greens - some stronger than others. Bumpy for sure and definitely not a great day for putting on them. Greens at De Bell are already wild enough, but they became almost more manageable with the slower pace, except that everything seemed to go offline pretty easily. Not ideal, but should have known after seeing the recent punch.

POP was not great, but that also had a lot to do with two golfers in our group who were more about having a good time (and teeing off three times in case of bad tee shots) than they were about a good score. But in fairness we did plenty of waiting on lots of holes either way, finishing up in just around five hours overall.

Cart service came around once - no beer, a gal with a golf cart with a tub filled with ice and soft drinks in the back of it. Interesting. And again, if you have never played De Bell before, just know that it's unlike most other courses you'll ever play in LA. You can go from a PW off the tee par 4, to a 3 wood par 3 in no time. It's wacky. And usually not fun if you're just slightly off. Small victory was playing one ball until the 13th hole. Yay.

Played 3-19-18 first out as a single walking in two hours for $22. Tee boxes were in descent shape, some were a little thin with some divot damage on par threes and short par fours. Fairways were okay a little thin in some areas with some small bare spots that could give you a bad lie. Rough is a mess of everything, short, long, thin, clumpy and bare overall not in good shape. Was in two greenside bunkers that had nice brown sand but also had a lot of small rocks. Greens for the most part were in good shape but some of them had some small bare or thin spots, they were rolling medium/fast with an occasional bump and playing semi-soft.

Winter conditions overall. Course is generally on the firm and fast side. In fact, the placement of pins on the most severe greens (like #'s 4, 8 & 9) were downright idiotic given the pace and slope. ... Continue »

Winter conditions overall. Course is generally on the firm and fast side. In fact, the placement of pins on the most severe greens (like #'s 4, 8 & 9) were downright idiotic given the pace and slope. Anything above the hole on 4, for instance, would roll and roll and roll right off the front of the green and back down the approach which was full of funky lies to add to the insult! US Open style putting on your local muni poa anna greens with all the wobbles and bobbles that gets you.

Maintenance-wise, greens #2, 6. 12 & 18 had fairly extensive hex-plugging going on around the margins. Several fringes were under repair too. Not really in play for the most part but there you go. Otherwise, fast is the word-of-the-day for the greens.

Toughest little course you can play. Challenging challenge.

Out this Sunday morning, 2/11, as single paired with a very pleasant ladies threesome. With the exception of some grinding on the uphill 10 and 11th holes, we generally kept pace for a five hour round. Conditions overall were good for this time of year. Fairways were predominantly green and covered with a fair bit of rollout and the occasional thin areas or dirt patch. Fifth fairway is consistently more hardpan than the rest of the fairways. Rough is a mixed bag — frequently playable just off the fairways, but thick stuff, hard stuff, barrancas and the like will punish you, sometimes severely, if you get too far astray. Missed all the bunkers and can't say much there. They generally looked groomed and I noticed at least one a bit damp. With minor exceptions, the greens were in very nice shape and running about as quick as you would want relative to the slope and contours on most of the greens. Pace not withstanding, an enjoyable round and conditions on what can be a punishing little course.

Played 1-29-18 for $22 walking(players card), first out as a twosome and finishing in 2 hours 45 minutes. Tee boxes were a mix of thin, too long and just right, with there being some divot damage on short par fours and three pars. Fairways were lush in some areas thin in others and had some small bare spots mixed in with some of the shorter holes having some divot damage. Rough was mostly in good shape with some small bare spots. Some of the bunkers looked like they had some new sand in them, unfortunately the one that I was in was very thin and hard with some small rocks in it. Greens were descent, firm with medium/fast speed and an occasional bump. A few of the greens had some bare and thin areas around the fringe but they had the flags in positions were it shouldn't come into play. 50/50 change of having a good or bad lie in fairways ,rough and fringe.Course is a little rough right now, but I still enjoy playing this short frustrating course.

They were a little firmer on the back side but still held good shots. Fairways were starting to look a little thin but there were still decent lies. Rough was not to long with a few bare areas. Didn't go into any bunkers but from watching playing partners some seemed to be a little thin while others seemed to have an ample amount of sand. Tee boxes were okay, some being lush while others were thin. Winter conditions seem to be setting in, but overall course is still in descent shape.

All-in-all, very good muni conditions!

All-in-all, very good muni conditions!

Greens have come back nicely from maintenance. Only #2 had two areas of hex plug repair and there were some sandy edges elsewhere as they were doing abatement on the encroaching kikuya. Otherwise, they were relatively smooth for poa greens and plenty fast (but not as fiendish as they can be here!)

Fairways get a +1 here as they were lush and as close to carpet as kikuya can get. Well conditioned, there were only one or two bare areas here and there. Otherwise, a joy to hit from.

Tees were not bad considering how on 2/3 of the holes you are playing short to medium irons off them. They were re-seeding some of them too.

Sand was generally favorable for muni course with mostly groomed conditions and the rough was juicy in spots and long enough to be penal.

Tough course for the length and rating. They have, however, softened a few areas up by taking out old and dead trees along the left of #4 (dog leg left uphill) and behind #7 (long par 3) and along the OB left of #8, where a bunch of old pines have bit the dust and a few more look like they are not far behind. I'd like to see some more trimming as some holes you have to hit a tiny spot off the tee to not be blocked out by overhanging limbs but still in the fairway. Otherwise, I say this is the best muni in the Burbank/Glendale/Pasadena area right now.

Play it if you want to hit all your clubs and get beaten up by a course well shy of 6000 yards. When the easiest hole on the scorecard according to the fine people at the USGA is blind over a mountain then you should know that this is not a typical track....
