On to El Do Friday morning as a two-ball and a fast PoP under 4 hrs. Winter conditions starting to show as some of the Kikuyu is beginning to lie down and even thin to non-existent in some patches (which I seem to find on every other hole!). Wind really kicked up on the back nine so lots of debris on greens ... Lawnboy's team will be super busy this weekend. Greens healed and healthy as the Poa edges try to fill in ... will take a while. The surface on holes 1-3 a bit uneven but much better as you move ahead, best on the back side. GS bunkers look great but most are thin sand over clay, so beware (where's the sand? Second protest :-) Challenging layout from the Blacks on a blistery day, really had to focus on every ball strike. I enjoy playing here for that reason. With all the trees El Do can be a bear if you're not straight off the tee but birdies are getable if you're on in regulation. Always recommended.

Played El Dorado on 10/29, invited to play by a family friend who got a $42 riding online rate. Was so looking forward to it as I have never played El Dorado, Eldo or El Diablo as my friend calls it. Had a 7:56 tee time and noticed it was pretty busy for a Monday morning. The starter paired us up with a couple of nice guys and were off a little late. Noticed they allow 5 somes and got concerned as the group ahead of us had 5. Not a problem as they kept up. We kept up as well so POP was a little under 4 hours. What I liked about Eldo is the starter made announcements as to who was on the tee, who was next and who was in the hole. No confusion on a busy day. Love that! I really enjoyed the layout. Was nice to have someone with me who played here before because there is a creek that comes across a and in front of couple of the greens. Water also comes into play on a couple of holes. Fairways were hit and miss. Some were a bit beat up and some were real nice. The course is well bunkered both in the fairways and protecting the greens which makes it very challenging. Most of the bunkers were very damp however. In fact, the whole course was pretty damp. The greens were still in recovery from aeration and need a few more weeks to heal. They had cut and mowed down the aprons on some of the greens attempting to make them larger but it’s not taking. Some are in real bad shape. The back 9 greens were in much better condition. The practice greens are very nice and thought we would get the same on the course. Didn’t work out that way. My friend loves playing here and says it is usually in much better condition. Overall, I enjoyed playing here and want to go back again.

Back to El Do this morning, got around in a tick over 4 hrs as a walking foursome. Lots of water on the course, so some spongy areas to contend with along with casual water. Mostly good lies in fairways and rough all morning. Greens were punched a couple week ago (one side) and are coming back nicely. They will punch the second half this coming Mon/Tue. Speed is predictable and semi-quick. Bunkers have good sand, heavy texture and very playable. Many tee boxes were punched, too, and that project will continue for a while longer. El Doardo does a great job of evening out the maintenance to keep the course open and playable. Recommended, especially with a LB city card.

Out at 7:20am for a 4:20 PoP at El Do this morning. No changes since my last weeks review but I was told they'd be aerating half of the greens on Sept. 17 and the second half two week later. Recommended. Don't know why my rating came out at 5.6. Should be 6.5

Played El Do with a 7AM tee time, a bit slow with waiting on most front 9 holes so PoP was 4:25 today, oh well ... play early or get what you get. Summer taking effect in some areas of the fairways but most lies were very good and there's still plenty of green Kikuyu to go around. In a few GS bunkers today, very good sand and easy to play from ... well maintained, too.

Greens, as usual, very good Poa holding shots as predicted as well as chip/pitch shots. Green expansion project continues and will take a while to get the shape back to the original 1962 Ted Robinson design. Today, some green collars were in work laying down new Poa sod (I wanted to steal a few squares for my yard :-)

[I completely disagree with the complaint of the previous post (rant) as this project has a purpose and it will enhance play of this well thought out track, but some people would rather find the bad rather than the good when they write a review. Pity.]

Anyway, as most courses that get over 100K rounds per year, play early or expect slow play. Otherwise, the course is in very good shape and is a fun, walkable track. Recommended.

played 8/14, behind a tourney Majestik golf club, *## teed off half hour late, 3 hours for the front ,players were not raking traps or fixing ball marks on the greens, they were mors concerned with staying in the shade until they could hit their next shots, when they got ready to hit, they drove the carts out and hit one shot, moved to next ball and hit, etc. etc., gaps of holes open through out !! Marshal came up to us once and we complained on the 3rd hole, he told us to keep carts on paths because one of our guys was on a little grass in back of the green about 2 feet off the path. So much for "READY GOLF " enforcement !!
Course was in decent shape except for they are trying to make the greens bigger by using greens mower to cut the fringes and scalping the grace and most of it was dirt for about 3 feet completely around the greens !! Terrible decision, greens keeper should be disciplined !!!
Finished in 5 hours 45 minuets.Hope that management does not let that golf club back !!

Played here yesterday. Course in very good condition except for a few tee boxes which had sand and divots that needed repair. Greens are great and rolled medium to fast. POP was 4 hours.

Pre-4th of July twilight round with Kassper7 at El Dorado. Course is in good summer shape right now with the highlight being most likely the greens which were in nice shape. Not the greatest man has ever seen, but highly acceptable. They're running a little bit above medium speed, hold lines well, accept approach shots and the coverage is mostly consistent and firm.

Fairways have some thinner areas but you're also just as likely to land in a nice patch of the lush green stuff. With so many trees at El Dorado, there's always a chance that some lies stay thin due to the lack of sunlight all day, but again, they do a good job of keeping things in playing shape. Rough is not penal and often provides a better lie than some of those aforementioned thin patches. Sand was mostly okay - not terrible, but not great. And the tee boxes with the exception of a few were just fine.

Enjoyable layout with a few water features in play along the way. It's a pretty straight-forward design, but throws in a few wrinkles with length, water and of course the narrow alleys on some of the holes with the trees. I don't think the bunkers are too invasive at El Dorado at all so you don't have too many of those to worry about.

We walked for a $40 rate + push cart. Didn't see any cart service along the way either, but it wasn't a weekend so maybe that's why. Solid pro shop though where you can find anything else you may have left at home. All in all, good showing from El Do and it's recommended at this time.

Early Friday round at El Do, very uncrowded so they called me up too soon ... I had a bucket of balls which I wanted to hit, so I went out as a single (first time that happened here ... EVER). Anyway, I caught the 3-ball ahead of me on #3 ... they ignored me (maybe BO?) so I played a Mr. Black vs. Mr. Blue match ... it was a good one, too, with Mr. Blue missing a short birdie putt on 18 which would have given him the win, so I shook my own hand and drove home. Anyway, the course conditions are real good right now. Ran into Lawnboy who told me about some water issues they had earlier in the week so he's playing catch up trying to get the course ready for the LB Golf Festival. He also answered some turf questions I had, so I learned something today. Greens were cut short and were quick but not overly so. Kikuyu fairways cut and green with a few GUR areas here and there. Rough at a decent length, mostly full. Bunkers have fluffy, brownish sand, easy to play from and well conditioned. ED is always in good shape, a decent test with a lot of mature trees. Greens do not have too much undulation, putting is fairly predictable, and they are in the process of enlarging them in order to get the course back to play in the manner it was designed. Recommended but play early cuz it gets slow there. LB resident discounts are available.
