Now is the time to play El Dorado! Played this morning before the SCGA qualifying. The course is in super good shape, probably the best i have ever seen it. The greens are pure right now and i would guess they are running about 11. Everything is excellent though. If i have to criticize anything i would say there are areas in and around the fairways that were marked GUR and a few greens had some bare areas on the borders but that is it. The rough is long but playable and the sand traps were great. If you haven't played here in a while i highly recommend it!!

Played El Do early out ahead of the Pub Links tourney, PoP good at 3:45. Course in overall very good to excellent condition tee to green. Some areas marked GUR (nice to see) but I had good lies all day. Rough up a bit, very juicy, so playing it straight was mandatory for a good score today (some of that thick Kikuyu that DConn loves to play from ;-) Greens were really nice Poa, rolling very quick and true. Most areas along the collars that are part of the green enlargement project have filled in ... but there are still a handful of bare spots that some balls may stop on. It only happened once to me and it was still very putt-able. Only issue I came across was some rocks in a few bunkers (GS # 3) which Lawnboy sez came up when they did some tilling ... otherwise, excellent bunkers and easy to play out. Good time to get out to El Do and the other LB courses as the LB Golf Festival is looming. Highly recommended.

Played El Dorado on 4/17/2019. Course got me out a little ahead of my tee time around 11am, pace of play was about 4.5 hours, not too bad. Course has recently just punched and sanded the outer ring of the greens just inside the fringes, about 3 feet wide on every green. The rest of the green, other than the outside edges are in nice shape, recovered from punching, firm and much faster than I expected. The fairways out here are pretty hit or miss, some are a little shaggy, some are thin, plenty of bare spots and thin lies, probably a 4-5/10. Rough is similar, some thick grass, some bare spots, can get some tough lies. Wasn't in any bunkers but looked decent. Course actually has some back tee boxes that aren't listed online that can make the course play about 6900 yards. Would recommend right now, but the outer ring of sand on the greens does make for some tough chips off the edge.

Been awhile since I got out to El Do on a Friday, mostly because it's been raining so much this winter and this course does not drain well. Been a few weeks since aeration and the Poa greens are mostly healed, need another week. They were mostly true medium speed with a few bumps here and there. Kikuyu fairways are dry now and mostly full, some thin areas and bare spots that should be marked GUR ... that said, I had good lies all morning. Bunkers maintained, nice to play from. Rough a bit spicy, had to spot your ball and hope it doesn't settle or you gotta just hack it out. They allow 5-somes here (Am Golf) so slow play can creep up on you if you don't tee off early. We got around in 4:20. Non-res green fee is $43 walking. Recommended.

6:52 on Saturday, March 23. Greens are healing nicely from the recent aeration. Still bumpy and the speed is inconsistent. They should be back to their normal pristine condition in another week or two. Tee boxes are good as are the fairways. Rough is lush. Keep it out of there or you will lose a ball or two during the course of your round.

Overall, the whole course is shaping up nicely after all of the rain and recent aeration of the greens. This course should be in extremely good condition for spring/summer play!

On a side note, we followed a threesome who followed a fivesome. The fivesome quickly fell behind the group in front of them. Hole 12 is the first par 3 on the back. After waiting on the fivesome to finish up on 12, the threesome let the fivesome know that they were 2 holes behind. The fivesome answered back with the classic, "FU". After hitting their shots to the green on 12, the groups approached each other to have a "discussion". Luckily, things did not get out-of-hand.

All in all, we finished the round in just under 4 hours which is perfectly acceptable in my book. However, if you are going to grab an early tee time, be prepared to be pushed. If you and your buddies are not "true" golfers, the 6:36 tee time is probably not for you.

Played 3/19/19 1148a. Course was playing really nice. Greens are healing well from the aeration a couple of weeks ago. Tee boxes were pretty level, fairways were in great condition, rough was just a little longer than the fairway. Sand traps were the only rub on the course, a little inconsistent. The greens were a little bumpy but were rolling well. In a couple of weeks, the course will be great.

Played a nice Christmas Eve day round with two buddies at El Dorado and enjoyed some good conditions albeit at a slightly high price. Almost $80 for riding the blues is a bit much for what you get here, but if you can get a slightly better online deal, it's more than worth it. But I guess they can do that on a holiday.

Course is in solid if not spectacular shape. Plenty of green on the fairways to work with but some thin areas around the greens and more browned out areas on the back nine it seemed, but mostly good lies throughout the day. The rough is mixed length, bunkers were okay not great and the tee boxes are mostly good with a few of the par 3s that are getting pounded.

Greens were in nice shape overall and running at around a 9 or 10 on the stimp. Held shots well with any decent trajectory and it seemed as if ball marks were at a minimum. A few of the greens here are deceptively sloped and require good reads to keep your putting numbers down on the day. But not too shabby at all.

We had a fairly slow group ahead of our threesome so we definitely waited to tee off on a lot of holes, but it was to be expected on what turned out to be a busy holiday with fairly perfect winter weather ahead of the rains later that night. No cart service came around all day though which was surprising if they were charging holiday rates.

In ranking the Long Beach public courses, El Dorado has slowly risen up the ranks in my book and is in a firm tie with Skylinks as the best in the area. It's often in better shape as well, but it also boasts a fun and challenging layout despite no elevations or anything else too gimmicky or quirky. Just a good place to play some golf. If that's your thing.

Teed off Wednesday at 7am and finished in 3:45. The course overall is a little rough around the edges primarily due to the large amount of rain during the previous week. The greens rolled decent with medium/fast speed and were mildly bumpy at times. The outer foot or two of the greens is still pretty rough due to the green expansion project. The fairways had decent winter coverage but there are still some mushy wet areas due to the rains. The rough overall had was good with some thin/bare spots. Like the fairways, the rough still has some mushy wet spots. The bunkers looked to be in decent shape (I was not in any). The tee boxes were mostly good. While the course is still drying out from a lot of rain it is very playable. I always enjoy playing Eldo. The staff all around were friendly.

Was spared an emergency Sunday round at Alondra this weekend when I noticed a $46.00 hot deal on teeoff.com for a single at El Dorado that also included a promo code dropping it down to $41, and it was at a decent 11:08 start time. No-brainer, right?

Went out a group or two early even after being paired with a twosome and a single. The pro shop gentleman also got me a complimentary small bucket to hit some balls before going out early, so props to the staff for that - much appreciated.

Solid layout and good conditions right now at El Dorado. The greens on the front nine seem to be in better shape condition wise than a few on the back nine though. There were some greens on the back that had a lot of dirt areas on the fringes that were not marked off as GUR. That was a bit annoying, but for the most part they were good rollers at medium-fast speed that held shots well and were fun to play on throughout the day.

Fairways are mostly in good shape with some dry, thin areas but not enough to make a fuss about. You're going to find good lies but you'll have to make good contact in some of the thinner areas as well. Rough was thick in places, short in others - not easy to tell where. Bunkers had decent sand in them but some were thin. Tee boxes all seemed fine.

POP was a bit slow unfortunately with waiting on a number of holes, but nothing too terrible overall. It was a beautiful day and the playing partners were very cool so there was no issue there. No cart service to be found but there is a nice snack shop that you can access when teeing off on holes 3 and 15 - find anything you need.

Compared to other LBC courses that were almost double the price, I would say it was the right decision spending a lovely Sunday afternoon at El Dorado.
